      Becoming Aware

Hi there. I had a dream recently, where I had partial awareness in the dream. I was aware that I was having a dream, but I, myself, weren't present in the dream.

I had seen people amongst this yacht, in a river, just enjoying and going on about the night, not really doing anything different or out of the ordinary. It was all casual.

Then all of a sudden, I had started to witness this yacht tipping over and people drowning in the river they were on. The river was dark, murky and unclear.

Shortly after that, I had woke up from the dream.

I would like to know if this is of any significance and how I can actually be present, in my dreams?

By present, do you mean you had a vague knowledge that you were dreaming and didn't feel very conscious or attentive to what was happening, or do you mean that your dream body wasn't physically present in the dream, i,e, a third-person dream?
If it's the former, your lucidity should get stronger if you continue practicing reality checks and ADA mindfully. There are many great tutorials on these techniques on this site.
If it's the latter, you could try shouting a dream command to make your physical body appear when you get lucid.

Did you 'just know' you were dreaming, or did something happen to make you lucid? If the yacht tipped over and the river turned dark after you got lucid, it may have been the dream collapsing because you didn't stabilise it.

      It was the former.

I was only aware that I was dreaming, but I was never physically there, only aware.

So you were aware it was a dream but had no physical presence (no body) and just watched the dream as an outside observer?
In that case you could try thinking about your body to make it appear in the dream, or speaking out to the dream to make your body appear or for it become more vivid.

I can't help you with the meaning of the dream, but I can tell you that you were present in the dream... you just didn't manage to feel that presence.

The way to feel that presence is to remember that everything in this dream is you, a construct of your own mind, so you are present even if you don't happen to have a dream body (I rarely have a dream body when fully lucid, BTW) or if you feel like you're watching the action from a distance. And of course the way to do this is by increasing your level of lucidity (from what you wrote, it seems that level was a bit low). Now, the good part here is that you can do both of those things at once:

An excellent way, I think, to increase lucidity is by remembering that your actual body is still asleep in bed where you left it, and taking a pause to remind yourself that everything you are looking at in your dream is not real, but is a creation of your imagination. As your lucidity increases during this pause, you will very likely, very necessarily, start to feel your presence in the dream, and you might even be able to do a little real-time introspection to unlock the meaning of what you are showing yourself. There are of course other ways to increase your lucidity, and lots of threads here that might help you, but I thought I'd share that one because it sort of fits here.

this happens to me all the time as well where i try sleeping and i see imagery of motions nd people living there lives where i have no physical attributes to the outcome as when my eyes closed and its feel like I'm crucified watching TV with no perception or depth of any physical emotion or physicality in the dream then are you seeing other does it feel like your trap in third-person or do you notice when your sleeping that the being around are doing more than can imagine in the dream when starting become lucid

Try doing prospective memory exercises (Remembering to remember something), they help a ton!

I have movie dreams too, where I am an observer but not in the dream. They are fun and it can be a vision from God or your subconscious sending you a message. The symbols in your dream suggests a need for baptism, renewal, as water can represent that. Did the water have a strong current or was it gentle, still water

"A need for baptism" is the last thing I would expect from water.

Interesting thread. Thanks Notionless. Ive had some of my LD's be only with me being a point of awareness. I've had enough where I had a "dream body" that I was able to just let those be, as me being a point of awareness. But recently I also found during those, if it was like watching a movie, I'd eventually see the outside of the TV screen and be able to get up and turn the TV off and go somewheres else.

I don't know what any of the symbology behind it is. It sounds like a big deal, to have a bunch of people dumped off a yacht into the river. How did it make you feel? I think the emotions are important.
