      Another Funny Thing Happened

      So, Here's the issue:

Last night's dream was very vivid. I remember pretty much every part of it, and I had an enormous amount of "presence" within the dream. The problem is this; When I did both a reality check and looked at something completely outlandish (A clown wrangling a rhino-antelope hybrid), the reality check failed to work and the hybrid creature did not elicit a response out of me. I also remember being pretty embarrassed as I was in a public space (In the dream, not real life) and I didn't do my other reality check, which is checking how many fingers I have on my hands. It was like having a lucid dream but not being aware that you're in a dream, if that makes any sense.

Is there a way to fix this? I can see the progress I'm making (Being present, remembering to do a reality check, looking at my surroundings), but something obviously needs to be fixed.

Look at it a different way. You are taking the perspective that something needs to be fixed.
I would take the perspective that you are making progress. Just keep moving forward. Keep working on your awareness and reality checks. Because you are doing really well.

However, one bit of advice I have is, whenever you do a RC, use your logical mind as much as possible. The object of a lucid dream is waking up the logical mind and becoming aware of it. So, when you RC, wake up both your awareness AND your logical mind.

So you can identify the difference between awareness and logical mind:
      - You can wake up your awareness by simply stepping back and looking at the situation. What I mean by that is, just observe. Observe your vision, observe your hearing, observe your thoughts. Awareness = observation.
      - You can wake up your logical mind by questioning everything. Don't just take what you see for granted, question it. Properly question your RCs too.

So, simply put, when you do an RC you want to get really mindful. Even when you're awake it should feel like you're waking up from some sort of slumber/unconsciousness. THAT is the habit you really want to get into. Really powerful habit for both lucid dreaming and life in general.

I agree with this. What you (OP) described is something that for me grew into more actual LDs.

Eventually I had several finger palm tests fail within the dream. So far I have had 2 dreams in which my finger palm test failed, but I made a "great save" with a nose pinch breathe test. It was so exciting that the advice I had heard a million times, to always do TWO RC's, actually came to mind.

But yeah definitely give yourself a pat on the back because that's a good sign.

You could not have chosen a better thing to say. I took your advice about just continuing from my current position, and guess what? I finally achieved my first (And second) lucid after a month-long dry spell! Again, thanks for the encouragement.
