I tried this last night but it didn't work because I couldn't get back to sleep when I woke up . Will try it a few more times when I have a brief awakening

The best time to try this would be immediately after awakening because if you leave it too lon you might fin it very difficult to fall asleep. If you try this upon awakening the chances are you will be in dreamland in no time.

I've had a couple lucid dreams before by just realizing I was dreaming. But none in a while. I read this post and tried it a few nights ago. I woke up early in the morning, stayed up for about an hour, then remembered I wanted to try this and didn't have to be at work unil 1pm. So I went back to bed, layed there and told myself I was going to lucid dream. Then I started imagining what kind of lucid dream I wanted to have. After imagining having a lucid dream I started imagining walking through my house, opening the front door, running down the street...didn't start lding. Then I imagined running through my backyard, jumping the fence and running through the neighborhood, then next thing I knew I was dreaming and in some building and I realized I was dreaming. I flew through the ceiling and in the air and then after a little while it faded. So it was kinda like your experience. I'm sure I just fell asleep after imaging all that then in my dream I realized I was dreaming because I was thinking about dreaming so much.

I'm gonna try this. I tend to wake up in the middle of the night so tonight I'll just roll over and try this. If it doesn't work and I get too awake, I'll try a VILD. Hope it works.

      one question for you

      does this method cause SP?

No. One moment you are thinking it and the next moment your lucid.

Ok.. so I tried it again with little success... If I don't go straight into a dream after the first time imagined myself in this "familiar place", Do I keep trying?

Not really. Its a type of WILD where you fall asleep while remaining conscious by consciously visualizing.

k so a lot of people were talking about how you should wake up naturally, well if you absolutely cant do this then try this i found from someone else.

Go to bed thirsty, keep a glass of water by your bed, right before you go to sleep, take a sip, but don't drink all of it, during the night your thirst will wake you up, when you wake up, attempt the method.

This allows you to wake up without having to move to turn off an alarm.

Well, if you're thirsty, you will want to drink water.

This works...really well. Today I woke up at 5:00 A.M. to give it a try. My head got that groggy feeling really fast, and soon my body exploded into vibrations. Next thing ya know, I'm lucid. Thanks man-your technique got me my third.

You know something...i've had some experiences like ths too...is this called VILD? I can't remember for the life of me...But yes, seeming to visualize a scene as best you can...and keeping that in your head as you fall asleep, almost incubatingth dream, seemsto ease the transition (as lng as it's done after 5-6 hours, like you said) and allow you to go right into a lucid dream...with some luck.

for some reason whether it is that i am too tired or i am not getting enough sleeping time, i dont seem to naturally wake up consistantly on nights that i have school the next day.

Does/has anyone have any success with this method when using an alarm?

That's how I did it. Worked on the first time too.

I've tried this technique a couple times, but it doesn't seem to be working for me. Maybe it's because I wake up extremely fast, and don't normally linger in that groggy half awake state. I've played around with polyphasic sleep too much, so now as soon as I wake up, I'm movin'.

I think this will work for my girlfriend. I've been trying to get her going with LDs, but shes a crazy heavy sleeper, and takes forever to fully wake up for WILDs.

WBTB is pretty funny in our house. After 5 minutes, I'm up singing, dancing, and researching building technology while whittling a chess set. After 20 minutes, she's still100% zombified, walking into furniture, and trying to find her pants.

Thanks for the great idea. I tried it last night and had great success. I didn't use my current home but one that I lived as a boy for over ten years. The first scene was my staircase which I had to go to street level three flights down. When I got to the street I played on (my block) It looked as it did when I lived there many years ago but empty of people and no autos parked on street, completly isolited but extreamly clear and bright. Amazing! The rest of the dream was not too bright and somewhat dissapointing as I didn't have too much control or any at all, I'm working on this issue. Thanks, sea bee (a sailor forever)

hi i haven't been into lucid dreams now for a while and was thinking about trying again starting tonight after reading this post. it seems to have a lot of success and it really makes sense to me.

i remember reading about other VILD techniques that would tell you to imagine as vividly as possible some crazy elaborate valley and feel every sense in your body at once. i'm not that good at visualizing like that so it didn't work well for me. visualizing a place that is incredibly familiar to you makes sense. if you're tired it should come easily if you know the place well rather then having to force your self to create an unfamiliar scene. i'll try this tonight and hopefully tell everyone how it goes

k so i have tried this a couple of times, ill wake up after a dream, remember about this then start visualizing walking around my house. What i do is i think about walking around. Should this be in my head or should i be trying to put the images infront of my eyes? also i feel like i nothing starts to shift. I feel like it should be obvious that things are starting to become a dream state because it engulf me kind of. Any suggestions?
