Thread: Red Cloud

Here's another example of how a dream might or might not be what a person imagines it to be.

Last night while I was asleep I was told that I was Red Sky and born of the clouds. Later I was told I was Red Cloud, and the phrase 'animated field of vision' was given as another pseudo-synonym for 'cloud' or 'sky'.

I've found that one limitation of English is that it forces a person to decide between singular or plural even in situations where neither expresses quite the right meaning. For native speakers this limitation may not be obvious since we're so used to it. But when translating a thought from another language such as Chinese that doesn't quite divide things that way, often there is no satisfactory translation. In my mind Red Cloud is sort of like "sky with high red cloud(s) at sunset", which is also a metaphor for something else. That 'something else' seems to be the physical/psychical multiverse of my identity, as viewed from a vantage point that I don't currently have. Or something like that.

Anyway, I looked up Red Cloud on the internet, and see that it is also a historical character. The intuition that I am Red Cloud is definitely a response to my seeking of further information about my identity. I think it would be a stretch however to assume that I have a special connection with the historical figure, aside from possible character affinities that any number of other people might share with that same person.

I guess the sensible thing here is to not make any assumptions, and just be open to anything that the inner example of Red Cloud has to teach me. In other words, feel into what it means to be Red Cloud, and find out to what extent I am that or want to be that.
