I started meditating normally. I was fully awake the whole process when something happened. |

Never heard of that. All i can say that it was really convincing hallucination. I going to try to induce it again. If i succeed i oberve it until im sure thats its either hallucination or something more. I post it here if i succeed. I doubt it but nothing is impossible. |

Interesting, but very unlikely to happen again. You should check nyam signs and see if they fit |

Check your memory, did any suprising event happpen ? does the present make sense ? visualize what you will do when lucid, and how. Reality check as reminder of your intention to lucid dream tonight. Sleep as good as you can; when going to sleep, relax and invite whatever comes with curiosity. Grab your dream journal immediately as you awake and write everything you can recall (if only when you wake up for good). Keep calm, positive and persistent, and don't forget to have fun along the way
Same thing has happened to me expect I was doing a wild, which is kinda similar anyways to meditation. I would put on some relaxing sounds or whatever and start breathing deeply and relaxing my body. Usually after 20-40 minutes I would start to feel tingles and stuff throughout my body trying to get me to scratch but I would lie still. Eventually I would start seeing flashes in my eyes, and you described it perfectly because I also felt like my eyes were being jolted with electricity. I would start seeing shapes and pictures start to form and faint voices in the background. The jolting in my eyes get so violent that I feel like my eyes are being pried open. Simply trying to close them would not do any good. Eventually al the commotion in my eyes and brain would force me to open my eyes. Literally to much to handle. I've never been able to get past that point. It's extremely intense. |

That sound excatly same how it happened to me. I thought my eyes were opening little by little and i tried push them shut. Then i started to see flashes of my room. At this point i was no longer sure if my eyes were blinking or not. When the flashes calmed down i could look around and i thought are my eyes open. I look my hands they look like normally i would see them but everything were darker so i touched my eyelids and they were closed. Thats when i had to make sure if i was seeing same image as with my vision and i was. I still saw little bit when i closed my eyes again but it faded to darkness pretty quick. |

I often see through my eye lids while waking from a dream. Believe what you want, perhaps this was a hallucination, but for me; I've had it happen too often - seen things come into vision that weren't there when I first closed my eyes... it's too much to believe it's a hallucination (for myself). I'm no stranger to psychic phenomena though, and to top it off, I have some sort of schizo disorder (schizotypal is my current diagnosis). So take my words with a grain of salt. I'm nuts, I know it, my doctors know it, but some things I refuse to believe are "hallucinations." Especially since I've grown to recognize when it is I do hallucinate - as it does happen with me. |

"Reality is merely an illusion, albeit a very persistent one." - Albert Einstein
Spoiler for Lucid Goals:
I usually experience really bright/wild HI about 10 minutes into closed-eye samatha meditation. |

Yeah, I can see the outline of my hand with my eyes closed when I'm relaxed and it's dark. It looks like faded white and I can make out the shape of fingers and everything. If I wave it infront of my face I can see it moving. |

Okay here something to think about. There this one guy who is blind yet he can see. Dont believe me well there is scientific sproof. They covered any entrance of light to his eyes yet he could see and pass these tests. Maybe he sees trough sound? NO! They covered his every sense expect smell and he passed these very hard tests. He could even see in dark color and the shape object as clearly as we see. He said the answers straight away. I didnt find video i checked but there was another video about him. First i know this video about him doesnt prove anything but you can look the real studies they made at him. STAN LEE SUPERHUMANS SUPERSIGHT - YouTube I didnt find anything else beside this crap. The guy has dissapeared from media for some reason but if you look hard enough you should find something about him. I know this show is full of crap except this guy. |

Another perspective. Such flashes are often indicative of experiencing radiation go through you. Astronauts commonly reported this during solar storms. I am not saying this is what happened, but it's kind of interesting to think about. |

Yeah its intresting to think these with open mind. I havent had anysimilar experiences. I never close anything out compeletely. I experience weird stuff all the time when sleeping but the difference was i was wide awake and saw same image as reality. |

Check out integrateddaniel.info/book/ for downloading a free ebook - Mastering the Core Teachings of the Buddha by Daniel Ingram covering this topic! Here's a quote: "Visions, unusual sensory abilities (such as seeing nearby things through one’s closed eyelids), out of body experiences, and especially bright lights tend to arise to the meditator, sometimes first as jewel-tone sparkles and then as a bright white light (“I have seen the light!”)." (Page 176 on the chapter The Progress of Insight) Lots of useful information in this book! |

LOL I've had this! ^_^ And this is funny for many reasons! |

It's just such an intense experience for me that even when I know that I'm in control my eyes want to open up. I know that I'm in sleep paralysis, I'm aware, but i feel forced to open my eyes. I will keep trying and see if I can get past that point and let you guys know in the future |

I have had few similar experiences after that meditation experience when trying to wild. I think i maybe know what caused them for me. You just have to go to lay down when your sleepy and you just need to stay still and focus on your only in your vision. This seemed to induce it. |

I've had similar experiences a couple of times. I didn't notice my eyes moving rapidly or anything like that, but I did see a bright light like you said. It was like the darkness in my mind started to fade and the room around me started to form in my vision. One of the times I was almost about to drift off to sleep in my living room, then the dark abyss in front of me started taking form and as I began to see the room around me I saw the tv still on, I could hear it the whole time, but after I saw the tv I realized that the audio matched what I was seeing. I watched for a few minutes with my eyes closed, and when I opened them the show I was watching was on the same scene I saw with my eyes closed; that was my personal confirmation that I was experiencing it in real time. Really a trip. |
|
I was compeletly awake in this experience. Thats why it was weird. I have had this happend dozens of times when trying to wild but in this i was meditating 100% awake while this happened. There was no lapse in my consciousnes. It happened in 15 minutes to meditation so there was no chance i was asleep. It could have been that i entered to nrem but i have had experience with nrem and its very different. |

Parts of our brain can fall asleep even when we are awake and busy in daily life, when you are closing your eyes and meditating you definitely can be partially asleep. It happens to me every night before I fall asleep, I just close my eyes and start seeing dreams and I am still fully awake. |
|
Strange, I have never had an experience of REM Atonia/Sleep Paralysis where my eyes were actually open, in fact they were always closed and I was completely in a void. If I opened them, I would be out of it, but I can also move right out of it if I want to as well. I know I am in SP/REM Atonia, but I have a lot of control over what happens in it, during it, and when I want to end it. Usually I induce a vortex by my head or feet to suck me into a lucid dream or something, heh. |
