      Perhaps I should have rephased the topic to say " Self-Hypnosis, blot out brief pain" lol...

      My question is, can you enter a stage of self-hypnosis and convince your subconscious not to feel minor pain? If so, how is it done?

      I think it's possible, although I don't know how to do it. Maybe you could get a recording to listen to that puts you into hypnosis.

      Check this site out, they have a bunch of audio files to listen to and there's probably one like what you're looking for. http://www.warpmymind.com Just so you know there's a lot of wacky things on there.

      I have seen many hypnosis CD's at stores that treat things like cancer, obesity, alcoholism, etc. so I don't see why it wouldn't work for minor pain.

      Here is the self-hypnosis script that I use:

      One thing I want to get straight about hypnosis. It is not like you see on the movies where people click their fingers and your asleep then you do some crazy shit you can't remember and they snap their fingers and your awake again.
      Hypnosis is just making suggestions/affirmations to the subconscious, you can move around and think still... its not like your completely paralyzed or have no control over your body. its perfectly safe, you just got to make sure the suggestions/affirmations are to your like-ing.
      I usually perform hypnosis on my self (aka self-hypnosis), but if you want to bring forward memories from your subconscious then its best to see a professional and not try to do this yourself.

      (This needs to be memorized if doing self-hypnosis)
      Lets begin...
      get really comfortably lying down with eyes closed
      use your conscious voice to guide you deeper into a meditative state.
      say to yourself before you start "i want you to relax completely, letting go of all tension in the body"
      say "you are now going to relax each part of your body, and as each part becomes more relaxed, you are going to go deeper and deeper into a hypnotic/meditative/trance-like state"
      say "now beginning with your toes... feel each individual toe relax, feel the tension being released as they become heavier and heavier, more and more relaxed"
      say "now the relaxation spreads to your feet, they are becoming more and more relaxed, heavier and heavier, as you go deeper and deeper into a hypnotic state"
      say "the relaxation is now spreading up to your ankles..."
      ***keep adding the words "they are becoming more and more relaxed, heavier and heavier, as you go deeper and deeper into a hypnotic state" *** and actually feel it happening
      ***continue doing this to every basic body part:
      relax everything:
      relax calves
      relax behind the knees
      relax upper legs
      relax hip and abdomen
      relax hands
      relax forearms
      relax upperarms
      relax chest
      relax shoulders
      relax neck
      relax jaw
      relax tongue
      relax lips
      relax cheeks
      relax forehead
      relax eyebrows, eyelids
      relax mind
      ***remember to keep adding those words "they are becoming more and more relaxed, heavier and heavier, as you go deeper and deeper into a hypnotic state"
      then do an overall one for your whole body "your entire body is now completely relaxed, heavy, and in a deep hypnotic state"
      then say "I'm going to start counting from 10 to 1 and as i do you are going to become more and more relaxed going deeper and deeper into a meditative trance-like state, when I reach 1 you will be completely relaxed and in the deepest meditative state imaginable" ***keep adding words after each count like 'more and more relaxed' and 'deeper still' etc.
      then say "you are now completely open to my suggestions & affirmations and will do whatever they tell you"
      Now you can freely start your suggestions/affirmations and they should modify/overwrite your subconscious programming. e.g. "you are a kind loving person" "you communicate well" etc.
      Once your done, just say "im going to start counting from 10 to 1 and as i do you are going to become more and more awake, when i reach 1 you will be completely awake and refreshed."
      then start counting and each step along the way say "becoming more and more awake" "conscious control returning" "movement coming back" etc.

      It is not completely necessary to do this counting till your awake thing, however it is desireable. I have just opened my eyes whilst in this deep meditative state or even gone to sleep afterwards and didn't notice any ill-effects.

      GEt a few of the NLP books done by Richard Bandler. There&#39;s some good stuff in there. a bit unorthodox mind you. but works nonetheless. I once made an NLP induction with a tape recorder designed specifically for lucid dreaming. The frist night i used it i had a lucid. If you can do that with NLP or self hypnosis you can certainly cure minor pain.

      MAN&#33;&#33;&#33; I tried it, and it worked perfectly, and I am not talking about minor pain, I&#39;m talking about ALL pain. Being old school, lol, I got out of the hypnotic state, and took a pin ( needle ), soaked it in alcohol, and put it on the palm of my hand, and pushed it with a pretty vast amount of pressure, and could not get it to inflict pain at all ( didn&#39;t puncture the skin either ). Did this with my bicep, and only experienced a minor tingling

      Now, for the downside, it only lasted for a minimal amount of time, so I&#39;m going to have to figure out a way to prolong the effect, but while it lasted, it was AWESOME. This, though, could be in part to the enviroment I did this in - all of the lights were on, tv was on, my sister was on the computer typing like crazy and slamming a glass of tea down every few seconds, and I also forgot some of the words ( don&#39;t really know if that makes a difference though ). I was also interupted two times in a row.

      Also, you may be wondering why I am so infatuated with the effect of pain removal, the reason is ( just so you don&#39;t think I am a psycho ), currently I have to take 2 shots every week, and bloodwork every 2 months, so painloss is awesome.

      Have you tried asking for them to put on a localised anaesthetic lubricant before they give you a shot? its like a gel that will make the area go temporarily numb so you can&#39;t feel it.

      Actually yes, I even get my own prescription, but the downside to anaesthetics, ( that they don&#39;t tell you ) is, when you receive frequent shots, it may or may not work. And sometimes when it does not work, it can make it burn even more.

      That&#39;s why I&#39;ve resorted to this, I figure, if it does work - it&#39;s awesome, if it doesn&#39;t work - nothing is lost nor gained.

      Self-suggest/self-hypnosis to/of your-self that you already have pain, let the endorphin&#39;s run before the shots. Endorphin&#39;s are your natural defense against pain. Be careful of this it may make you a little high without the actual pain.

      May I make a few suggestions about the hypnotic suggestion and technique.

      Firstly, I suggest adding an "anchor" to your deep trance state. This will allow you to acheive that state much quicker in the future. Useful if you intend to use this technique more than once. Quite simply an anchor is a stimulis linked to a particular response ( not unlike pavlov&#39;s bell and his dogs). Follow these simple steps:
      1- Use the induction technique to bring yourself into deep trance (or any other state of mind)
      2-Apply a stimulis (can be either symbolic, auditory or kinesthetic (physical) ) ie. When in deep trance, it is easier to have an anchor with minimal movement such as touching your thumb to your index finger. Or you can you the phrase "Deep Trance" which works well.
      3-Break state. ie. Bring yourself out of trance.
      4-Test the anchor. ie. use the anchor to bring yourself back to the state desired.

      Secondly, if you need to have less pain at specific times such as when you get your shot of treatments, you could set up a trigger for the pain-free state. This is also known as a post-hypnotic suggestion and works a lot like anchoring. Get yourself in a deep trance state and suggest to your subconscious that whenever you say "NO PAIN NOW" that you will not feel pain. You should repeat this a few times to ensure that the command is linked. How the command is structured is not very important, but it is important to always use the same words for the command.

      Thirdly, and this might be something completely different, but why don&#39;t you change the way you perceive the pain. It would be much more pleasant to feel pleasure from getting your shots than it would pain, wouldn&#39;t it. Suggest to your subconscious that next time you get your shots, to produce feeling of pleasure instead of pain. Tell it to trick the receptors into believing that it is feeling good feelings. It might be unconventional, but it may work
