    Aladdin

I managed to hit another Task of the Year item! This one's from the morning of 5/11/2014.

    Color legend: Non-dream Dream Lucid

    Lucid #209: Aladdin

I’m standing on a long stone pathway that cuts through the middle of a vast lake. People pass by me on either side, and as I watch them go, I think about my intent to have a lucid dream. It quickly dawns on me that one has just begun.

I look out over the lake,.seeing numerous Greek-styled marble columns sticking up out of the water. I take flight to get a better view of the water and it’s just as striking from higher up. I go up and up, preparing for some peaceful exploration, but I accidentally cut through some low cloud cover and lose sight of the lake. A flock of birds crosses in front of me and for no discernible reason, the frame rate of the dream briefly dips. I’m briefly amused that my brain seemed to have had trouble with that relatively simple scene.

I head back down through the cloud cover, regaining sight of the lake. I fly lower, studying DCs as I go. All of the flight finally reminds me of the Aladdin Task of the Year, and I land, mentally gathering the details of what I’m supposed to do.

First, summon that lamp. I try several behind the back summons, but I keep botching them. This is annoying me a bit, but I finally manage to get the sense of an object in my hand even though I can’t see it. I wiggle my fingers a bit like a magician and the lamp “paints” itself in from top to bottom as I watch.

I make my wish for a magic carpet, and immediately one scoops me up from underneath. I remember my first attempt at this task and again ask the lamp for a “delicious cookie”. Right away a cookie appears in my left hand and I don’t hesitate before cramming it in my mouth. It’s really good! The chocolate chips are just a little small for the “perfect cookie” but it’s still excellent.

I’m apparently stuck on a “delicious food” theme so I immediately wish for “delicious hot chocolate”. I bring my hand back into view to find it holding a china cup full of hot chocolate. I guzzle it down. It’s way colder than it should be and there are odd clumpy patches in it like it didn’t mix well, but still tasty. Okay, done!

I continue flying the carpet for a bit, staying about 10 feet off the ground. I come to a section that looks like the exit to an amusement park. There’s a woman waving goodbye to me and the other people as we leave. I don’t get much further before
    the dream ends.

Nice! Another TOTY! This one seems really. Ive got to start trying those again. For some reason I just burned out worring about tasks. However my freestyle LDs get really random and strange so I think this would do me some good.

Yay congrats CL!! I've had chocolate chip cookies in a dream before and they were still warm from the oven. I woke up and could still smell them.

Anyway awesome job, especially getting in all 3 wishes. That was a blue-ribbon LD for summoning, if you ask me.

@Xanous - Yeah, this is a fun one for sure. Especially if you're more imaginative than me and think of something besides using wishes to feed your face. And heh, those freestyle LDs add a fresh dimension to your dream life that you won't find in tasks. There's never a Task of the Month to "jump on the table and do pelvic thrusts" or "fly down the stairs and hit your niece with a jump-kick."

@Ophelia - Ohh, warm from the oven! I don't think that the chocolate chip cookies of my dream world can compete with yours but damn is that dream food good stuff!

And thanks, I'm excited to have at least a decent start on Task of the Year! These suckers are tough but really rewarding. These and TotM have done wonders for my summoning, that's for sure. I still hit a lot of glitches in my attempts but I've tried enough times that I know to just stubbornly go for it again until it works.

Hey, dreambh, thanks man!! I'm glad you're able to get some net access and come see us. Hope things are good for you! Are you in the new area yet?

Thanks! Actually a more urgent work came out last minute, and couldn't make that move. So good bye isolation, welcome back stress. I'm a bit disappointed, and the pre-move stress killed my LDing (for nothing) but well, that's life, full of "surprises". On the positive side I like where I live now and it's safer and more comfortable. Just need to catch up with my LD practices again.

Congrats on the delicious TOTY completion! I was wondering what your third wish would be and it seems more than a perfect addition to wish number 2. Needless to say I now have the strong desire to have an ld in the kitchen.

Really cool lamp summon - so I take you saw it appear out of nothing right in front of you - this effect is absolutely fascinating!

@dreambh - Well, from a selfish perspective I'm really glad to hear you'll be able to hang with us on DV. I'm sorry things didn't work out but I'm glad that you're still living somewhere that you enjoy, even if things didn't go exactly as you'd planned.

@NyxCC - Thanks!! I know, I'm quite hooked on dream food now, ha ha. It's funny because that was one of the things that before I had any experience I read a lot of incorrect information about. A lot of people said it'd never taste like anything or would always taste like "X" instead of "Y". Which was of course just people feasting on their own preconceived notions, not some kind of rule with any meaning.

Yeah, the lamp was forming in front of me. It's a hard thing to describe because it doesn't come across like an effect on TV where there's a flash and then the thing is there. For me it's more just like reality "shifting" in such a way that the space where it should be forms into the right shape. This description is very inadequate, like a lot of stuff with LD.

Looking forward to reading that kitchen LD once you have it tonight!

That's true. I guess as with everything in dreams expectation plays a great role. Or maybe our gluttony affects the experience? The best dream food I have tasted so far has been in non-lds though. I often run into unbelievable chocolate related treats that taste heavenly. The fact that my brain thinks it's real possibly plays a part too. Need to go on dream food tasting more often to see how ld chocolate compares. Ok, I'll stop here, because I'm having some very strong visuals now.

Nice, recurring chococlate-tasting dreams sound awesome! That's like 50 million times better than the recurring "trapped in a meeting" dreams I used to have! That may be one of those times where I guess there is an upside to non-lucidity in that you completely and utterly believe that the whole experience is real.

I hear you on the strong visuals! I've been spread too thin to effectively LD (I'm embarrassed to say I have 2 LDs I haven't even had time to journal) but all this talk is making me want to get back to it tonight!!

That sounds familiar! There's always so much to do, my journal's behind...hope to be able to post at some indefinite point in time! Wish you lots of energy to deal with day tasks and streamline the rest into awesome lds!
