    Lucid #262: Arcade Action

I’m walking through an arcade, heading somewhere but in no particular hurry. It’s a huge place with a very high ceiling and lots of cool-looking games. I come to one beat-em-up game that looks sort of interesting. It’s got a pair of joysticks (one for each player) and a “Kick” button. The “Kick” button looks sort of messed up and mashed to one side.

I notice an odd message flashing on the screen: “Press Kick to Start”. It looks like someone left a credit in this machine! I look around to see if the credit belong to anyone nearby. There’s a black guy in his late 40s walking by and I ask him whether this is his game. He seems confused by my question, so I turn back to the machine,
and become lucid as I reflect on my good fortune.

I press “Kick” to start the game, slightly nervous that the dream won’t be stable if I play games. I start singing an impromptu song about dreams and video games (in my lucid dream voice, which is much much better than my waking life voice!)

The game begins and rather than a beat em up, it’s some kind of shooting gallery game where you have a little video game hand with a gun. The graphics look 8-bit, and there are these little circular targets that I’m supposed to be aiming at. When I move the joystick, the gun moves, and pressing kick makes the gun shoot. I miss a couple of times, and then hit a target, which shatters!

The shooting gallery attendant walks out and resets the targets. Unlike the rest of the game, she’s completely lifelike, a petite Asian woman with a medium build, probably in her late 20s. I do another round of shooting. Aiming the gun is kind of a pain, but I eventually shoot two more targets, and the attendant walks out to reset the targets.

I think about trying to change the game into a beat-em-up, but the attendant turns to face me. I see that she looks Thai or Cambodian, and her appearance is very vivid and attractive. She asks me…

    Spoiler for Sexytime:

Afterward, I emerge fully back into the video arcade and wonder whether I can play the game some more. The attendant looks toward me, seemingly ready to set up another round. As I’m messing with the controls, the attendant wanders off, leaving the shooting gallery in sort of a half-ready state. I mess a bit more with the game controls, but I’m feeling less tied into the dream, and pretty soon
    I’m awake.

Dude that seems like a really cool dream playing the games. I also love how psychedelic the dual body feeling is. Its super interesting when that happens, but its hard to grasp the idea in waking life. You're making me excited to get lucid again!

Thanks! Cool, "dual body", that's perfect... I was looking for something to tag this with! I knew that it had to be a thing with some kind of name but nothing was really coming to me. Because yeah, it's a very unique kind of experience, and one that I could see having in the future. Also a good way to maybe teleport into a scene on a TV or video game in general, maybe even permanently.

Would be kind of neat to teleport someplace by bringing up the desired scene on TV and then dual-bodying my way in, then kind of changing over to the new scene. Or coming back out! Being two places at once was just kind of cool. I know you've done it before, and now I have a bit better idea of what it's really like!

Awesome, man, looking forward to reading your next LD!

Haha I was wondering when I first read about the "attendant" if there was going to be some "action," wasn't disappointed, well done!

Ha ha, FryingMan, I've learned from your example not to let opportunity just pass me by! And thanks, after spending some time in a dry spell, I was worried that I wasn't in the right mindset/confidence level to have a stable dream with "extracurricular activities".

Heh, well, I had a night of jumbled scenes, but finally a TOTM-worthy LD where I chugged a bottle of wine/champagne. The only female around was a biting/clawing cat that hooked on to me at flying take-off and distracted me to the point of losing lucidity

Ha ha nice job, I'll check that out! The crazed clawing cat sounds like a way way less pleasant distraction than what you usually encounter in your dreams!

Congrats on the ld! Playing games in an ld must be really cool! The two places at once perception sounded amazing! You know, I can partially relate to this feeling as something similar has happened to me - to be in bed and in the dream while having control over both bodies and another time while being in transition between a dream FA and the previous dream scene, again feeling two dream bodies. Really crazy stuff! It never ceases to amaze me what we can do in dreams!

Oh, and I don't think I've had the chance to wish you a happy lucid new year!

^ Yeah, happy lucid new year!

This dream sounds like a lot of fun! I like that you just went with the scene and had a great time with the game and the sexy attendant.

Having dual bodies is such an interesting feeling! I've actually experienced it more in non-lucids than I have in LDs, especially when playing video games.

Great start to the year! I can't wait to see what dreams 2015 has in store for you. :canislucidus:

Thanks, happy lucid New Year to you both! =D

@Nyx - Thanks, Nyx, lucid video gaming really is a lot of fun! Sometimes the controls aren't exactly as snappy as I might like, but considering that these games are completely free and written on the spot while I'm dreaming them, I don't think it's fair for me to demand perfection!

Cool, I'm glad that you get what I mean with the dual body thing, too! It's a lot of fun to think about how the brain needs to be capable of interpreting physical stimulation from waking life, this is just a subset of what it's capable of. Impossible waking life situations like your body and awareness split into two can be experienced quite well during dreams!

@Dreamer - Thanks, it was a lot of fun! I was on a bit of a dry spell when this one hit, but apparently the promise of video games and time with a lovely DC got me back in the game!

Ahh, so you get the dual body thing too when playing video games! It seems like video games may be a really reliable way to tap into this. Which makes sense to me when I think about it... to some degree we project ourselves into our video game avatars on the screen, although we don't physically feel anything when we do so. In a dream, nothing stops us from feeling sensations or experiencing literally anything sensory that the video game "avatar" in the dream might experience too.

Thanks for the well-wishes! Happy 2015 to you as well, and to the many lucid dreams it has in store for us all!
