    The Word of Power

This lucid is from an afternoon nap on November 30th, 2014.

Lucid #257: The Word of Power

I’m participating in an extreme sport where I have to walk along a skinny white railing, then jump and rope-swing onto the surface of a yacht over and over again. The crowd goes crazy every time that I do this!

Oop, now I’m in a stone chamber below some kind of battle arena, dressed in a badass robotic exoskeleton. Apparently all of that was just training for an upcoming combat. There’s some other exoskeleton-clad guy here who looks like Kevin Durant, and I apparently believe he’s my partner. There’s a grimy mechanic here (an attractive, dark-haired woman in her late 30s) attaching a minigun to his suit.

Kevin Durant hoots with joy and sprays gunfire around the room, shouting about what a genius the mechanic is and how much ass he’s going to kick in the upcoming battle. The mechanic smiles in amusement and calmly walks out of the chamber. All of the action gets me all excited too and somehow it occurs to me that this is like a dream,
    bringing me into lucidity.

The presence of the Kevin Durant character fades and all I can think about is testing out this suit I’m wearing. I wonder whether it has a “bull charge” feature that lets me go charging forward to crash into stuff and whoooosh, there I go! I smash into one of the chamber’s stone walls. (The dream’s frame rate drops dramatically as I do this.) There’s a large button on the wall, and I throw a punch at it. Satisfyingly, it lights up when I hit it!

I go back and forth, crashing into the walls of the chamber until I’m pretty happy with this feature. At some point I notice a huge bearded guy (probably about 10 feet tall) standing in the middle of room in handcuffs, looking surly. I think that he’s supposed to be some kind of sparring partner, so I throw a completely guilt-free punch at him. It just taps him, though, and he doesn’t react beyond shifting his surly gaze to me.

I think that I need to focus my dream control more, and I remember how effective it’s been for me to vocalize my intention and sometimes even use profanity. “Yaaarrrggh!” I blubber, punching the giant in the ribs. It doesn’t feel very effective, though. I follow up with a kick to the upper thigh, loudly exclaiming...

    Spoiler for Very crude language:

as the kick lands. The strike feels really solid and forceful, and the giant grimaces before turning around and walking off. I immediately feel embarrassed that I’ll have to journal that this is how I improved my dream control and wish that I’d chosen a different word.

I start investigating whether there’s a way into the main arena, and as I approach a dusty upward ramp,
    the dream ends.

Wait, that dude in the picture was you? Or was that your partner? You were so badass! (I'm getting better and better at using this word!)

A huge, 10 foot tall bearded guy...? POOR JENKEES!
I wonder what he'd say if I told him you b***f***ed him in a lucid dream!

Your dream profanity never ceases to shock me, you are so hilarious!
This is even better than your last crude catchphrase, I might transition to this one!
I always love seeing your moments of realisation that you will have to journal something embarrassing.

This dream is just great, I love it!

That was actually the other dude, although I felt like a smaller version of that guy. I definitely had big exoskeleton arms. (I could see them when I punched and charged!) And yes you are getting so good at this! Making me so proud, ha ha...

LOL!! You are so bad! Ohhh my goodness, please don't do this to me!

Ha ha, thanks so much! =D I am always somewhat astounded by it too, but it does seem to do the trick for me in dream control! I employ profanity so awkwardly, especially in dreams, oh man. This dream is like the ultimate example of my awkward profanity, oh my gosh!

Isn't it funny how that works? That one of the consequences of lucidity is realizing that "Oh nooo, I'm going to be writing down all of this craziness later!" I recall you having a moment or two like this yourself! The nice thing is that DV is an accepting, understanding crowd, and dreams are really nothing to be embarrassed about. Doesn't stop me, though, especially when I propel myself to higher levels of dream control via awkward swearing. =P

I didn't think to summon you, and it's good that I didn't! I'd have hated to expose your pristine, unspoiled ears to this kind of gutter speech!

I'm so glad it works for you! It's such a cool trick to have up your sleeve because you literally don't need anything to be present but your voice to pull this off!

LOL, my unspoiled ears. Perhaps I need to re-send the squawking seagull story to refresh your memory...

LOL. Come to think of it, listening to the information in that recording must have been what corrupted me into using this kind of terrible language in the first place!

Cool! Great choice of words too, to enhance the experience!

HAHA I love the power word. This made me laugh. It's great how DILDs can set us up for some really cool dream experiences. It seems like a lot of people (myself included) tend to think WILD the holy grail of LD but man sometimes a good DILD is all that's needed. I tend to shift my focus between the two to mix it up.

@Tihiti - Thanks! And ha ha, thanks, I need all of the support I can get on my rather yet apparently effective word choice! =P

@Xanous - I laughed pretty hard at this too. Even in the dream, right after I did it, I knew that I was doomed when it was Dream Journal time.

I agree! WILD and DILD lead to such varied experiences. I always lean toward DILD simply because it's where I experience the most success generally, but WILDs have those magical transitions from waking to dreaming, all while somehow avoiding the mental darkness. Getting to watch the formation of a dream is pretty amazing stuff.

And like you said, DILDs are cool because you get this fully formed scene. It's such a rush overturning your sense of reality in one fell swoop. You thought you were just living your (rather weird) life and then, BAM, it's all a dream, and you can literally do anything. So cool.

Your subcon always creates such amazing nld adventures. Really cool you continued this scenario lucidly and had a lot of fun. And also generated some fun for us readers with your dreaming profanities.

Thanks, Nyx! Yeah, I do sometimes get some rather entertaining NLDs! It's cool to become lucid during the ones like this one where there are interesting objects / concepts to experiment with. I tend to be a little bit more thoughtful and experimental once I'm lucid, plus the recall is way better.

And I'm also capable of contemplating how embarrassing things will be to dream journal.
