At the movies / Fetching the kids

    by , 10-18-2014 at 09:52 PM (313 Views)
I go to bed at 11:30PM. I'm woken by a kid at some time during the night, then I wake naturally at 4:30.

    Going to the movies
I'm at home at my computer ordering movie tickets. I''m appalled that the normal price is $40, but I'm thankful that online I can get them for $7 each. I get enough tickets for our group to go see <movie>. Now we're at the movie theater. It's one of these old glitzy places, but it actually looks pretty good for its age. We're all dressed up really well. The place is huge: I'm not aware of the ceiling or of the far walls. We're standing in the middle of the huge space. Nearby, I see a huge sign covered in gold frufru around the edge. I think that maybe this board will tell us where to go to get to our movie, so Steve and I walk over to check it out. The board does have information about the movies, but none of it looks anything like what's on our tickets. I wonder if I somehow purchased tickets for the wrong theater (though I can't imagine how that could have happened), and I wonder if it wouldn't just be easier to buy new ones here, but Steve can't stand the idea of wasting the money on the initial ticket costs plus the crazy markup we'd have to pay to buy the new tickets here. Right behind us is some kind of informational desk. Steve goes over and shows the attendant (an older black man with fairly dark skin) his ticket. The man is incredibly scornful and condescending, saying that our tickets are for 77 and we're currently on 177, can't we read? I don't even know what those numbers mean, but now I'm afraid to ask him in case he gets even more scornful. He visibly gets himself under control, apologizes for being so rude, then starts telling us about this place. As Steve is talking to the information guy, I see my old friend Jamie M walk by. He's holding a violin and dressed in a white shirt and black pants, and I wonder if he'll be performing tonight. He comes up to me and asks if I know if anyone's had any success getting on the WiFi. I throw my head back and laugh a HAHAHA laugh, since the people around here aren't exactly technically savvy. I get myself under control and tell him as much.

Now I'm going to audition for a part with my old coworker Dave Z. We're walking along a wide sidewalk in a city, and dusk is falling. Eventually we reach an unmarked door in the side of an indistinct building. I'm skeptical, but he grins and tells me it's in here. Now we're inside and need to get to the fourth floor. He's going to take the stairs, but I decide the elevator would be better. After waiting for the elevator for a moment, I realize it's not coming soon and dash after Dave to take the stairs with him. These stairs are HUGE, very wide, and with dozens of feet between each story. Now we've made it to the second floor. I check the elevator bank to see if there's one here, but there isn't. We continue. At the third floor, I check the elevators again, but then realize there's a very important reason that I couldn't take the elevator even if it were here.

    Fetching the kids
I've gone to fetch my kids from where they've spent the last few hours with the B'n family. I'm in a long room that I think is a dormitory with many many beds. I can hear my family, but I can't see them yet: I'm hidden from them by some kind of huge block. I climb to the top of a nearby bunk bed and decide to lay there for a minute listening to them. At the top of the bed, I find it's actually two pieces: one for my upper body and one for my feet, with a gap in-between. It's really uncomfortable, so I manage to hook the foot part with my feet and slide it back towards me, closing the gap completely. I have to bend my knees now, but it's better than having the gap. My second daughter realizes I'm here and comes over and climbs up, wanting to snuggle. We lay there together while the other kids play for a few more minutes.

Fragment: I'm in a big hotel(?) room, then out in the hallway talking to someone.

I return to bed at 4:45 and wake naturally around 7.
