    1. Lucid Dream 39

Date: February 8, 2013 ||| Time Block: 1:30 AM to 5:30 AM ||| Length: 5 minutes. ||| Lucidity: level 3/2/1. ||| Entry Type: DILD ||| Major Methods: BAT

Methods: lay in bed for the night; thought about lucid dreaming on and off as I fell asleep; used a few experimental techniques.

      Account:
I was in the back seat of our van. We were driving down a road, and looking at at the buildings. We were on a raised highway, so we could see many places at once with relative nearness. I remember looking out, and seeing things like something that looked like Big Ben, (which Mom, I think, corrected as a structure 'in Belgium'), a large movie building, and countless others that seemed to be from all over the world. From this I concluded that we "must be in Seattle", since no where else would there be so much diversity. (I don't know quite where I got this, maybe from the city's 'ethnic diversity', as my college classes would have me word it) But then it struck me that perhaps it was all a dream. At that point, I looked around, touching the seat I was sitting on, the plastic trim on the car's side, the back of the seat in front of me, and said to myself, "Well if this is a dream, then there's nothing realer." (read as: "If this is a dream, than it's as real as real life.")

Sure enough, after about 10 seconds, my body began to feel a bit different, as it started to 'vibrate'. Now I've known for some time now just how incredible it is to find yourself dreaming, but there are times when a couple of less-vivid lucid dreams will make you forget, and then when you have a dream with full lucidity, you remember what it feels like to be fully 'alive' or 'awake' within a lucid dream. That's what it felt like here, in remembering just how clear they can be. I went on to dream some more off of this, although over time I lost my lucidity and the dream became just another regular dream. I've noticed this tends to happen more with the dreams that I have in the middle of the night. Just a quick overview, is we eventually came up upon a road blockage, which I incorrectly remembered as being part of a dream Monica told me about; I tried to make the car go faster by mentally willing it to; we came upon a jump, and we got over first; at some point, it turned into a race; at some point, I was standing and throwing an object as the means of finishing the race; at some point, the race became between Monica, and Dad and I; at some point, we crossed the finish line a second behind Monica, and then I also went to Dad as the race's judge, in a sense, to explain how she didn't do it correctly; and so on, as goes any other regular dream.

The most complex dream I've ever had, I think. Involving at least 10 false awakenings, and countless events. I'm stretching my memory to the limit, here, but I'll do my best to recollect it all.

First, like last time, I had a very long lucid dream right at the start, that I can't remember. It's very disappointing, because I know that this part was the most interesting. Anyway…

I wake up. My memory's extremely patchy, but I remember going around the house, and then eventually thinking of trying out talking with different voices to see how different I could make myself sound. I remember being upstairs, walking in the hallway, making myself sound like a 50 year old man, then a little girl, then someone my age but just a different voice, then my own voice, then a really smooth voice, and so on. They all work, most of them very realistically, although a few were annoyingly quiet. The dream eventually fades for reasons I no longer remember.

I wake up. I'm in my room, and I know that at this part, I had more than just this one false awakening, but I can't remember any details except that in the first few I was by myself, and then in later ones Davey was with me. So I'm going off from these later ones, where I'm in my room, with Davey, and I'm holding him as we talk. I remember I had some objective throughout this series of awakenings that I had difficulty accomplishing. Anyhow, I eventually wake up.

Back in bed, I somehow find myself with my brother again. Many events occur, including a wind-like sensation diminishing my feel of him, but then I get it back to normal. Also, some other imagined characters eventually come into my room, though not in a scary way. (even though the characters themselves were kind of strange, I had prepared myself earlier not to be disturbed by this) The dream eventually fades for reasons I no longer remember.

I wake up. I'm in my room again, with Davey. I try to go downstairs with him, and am doing so at first, but I go down a bit too fast on the last few, and cause the dream to fade.

I wake up into a very realistic false awakening, with nothing unusual. I think I may have actually woken up, but I can't remember, because I intentionally went back to bed very quickly and did not do reality checks. With my head on the pillow and my eyes closed, I can only remember a few seconds of this before another dream had formed, though I don't remember actually entering one.

I wake up. Through some means, at some point there is an iPad in front of me, and Davey is using it to get to different games. I realize it is in a dream, and am fascinated at watching Davey use it to open games that don't even exist. It looks so real, with perfect dimensions, and unique and distinct icons for each app just like in real life. He presses on one, and he opens a game. The game starts. It is a basic game, with 8 or so buttons that track with the game's objective. Which is, apparently, to interact somehow with a hippo and lion, who alternate their appearance in the game scene, which is our back yard, although seen from a game's camera as a 3D model. (you could even see the tell-tale 3D artifacts like closeup textures being overly blocky) Davey plays this, pressing the Up button, then Down, and so on, as the mechanical-like hippo, first of all, runs across our back yard towards the game camera. Gracie comes in the room as Davey's doing this, and she's thinks it's a game she plays in real life (which actually doesn't exist, but I was subtly tricked into thinking it did). I tell her she's in a dream, and more specifically, my dream, so the game is not real. (though I didn't want to tell her that she was not real) I don't remember how, but the dream eventually fades.

I wake up. I'm in my room, and Mom and Dad are there. They're talking about something in the dream plot, but I'm not really interested. I tell them it's a dream, go out of my bedroom, enter Chrissy's room, and consider exiting through her window. At first I'm a little nervous, because it feels so real, but I do a reality check and confirm that I'm dreaming. I go to the window, unlatch it, and get up on the window sill. Just to be on the safe side, though, instead of just jumping out, I hang off of the edge with my right hand. At this point, I emotionally confirmed I was dreaming, because the yard was laid out differently. More specifically, the bamboo was over at the wrong corner, which itself was misplaced, there was grass around the bamboo that doesn't actually exist, and the grass was all a deep green, (which looked very nice, but was unrealistic). Also, my body itself just felt different. After looking around a bit, (it was really beautiful), I jumped out of the window and began to fly. As I was looking around in mid-flight, I saw a lion off in an extended corner of our yard. Realizing that to run would simply lengthen the annoyance, I let myself down to the ground, put out my hand, and just told it to bite me. It came up roaring, and it bit my hand, but all I felt was a sensation of pressure, like when putting a moderately-strong clip on your finger. The lion was apparently disappointed, and it turned away its head and walked away. I think my dream faded a few seconds after.

I wake up into another very realistic false awakening. I don't actually know for sure if I was dreaming, because again I went straight back to bed without doing reality checks.

I wake up. Through some turn of events that I can't remember, there ends up being a lady in my room with her husband, who is apparently crying about something. From what I remember thinking, apparently they had boarded in our house in another room. The reason she was crying had something to do with my being awake or not. Anyway, I want to go outside again. I'm not sure at first if my window is in a dream, but discover it is upon closer inspection, and push through the screen. I think the dream fades when I do this, but my memory is so 'sketchy', that I can't remember anymore. (that being a new term I learned from 'you guys', btw, just like 'I call shotgun' for claiming seats)

I wake up again. At some point, those two people are in my room again. This time, she tells me that she's not sure I'm truly awake. I figure she's just a dream character trying to keep me from realizing I'm dreaming, so I check the window, and it was still opened a bit 'from last time'. I declare this to her, and she responds in a way that reveals she was indeed trying to trick me. I drop out of the window, into our yard. I expect there to be the lion again, so I try to just keep my cool, and test out my relaxation techniques for when in situations that would otherwise be disturbing. I begin to repeat the alphabet mentally with changing tones, and talk to myself in conversation style. I'm straining my ears for any sound of the lion. After a few seconds, I hear it growl from across the yard. Perfect. I now figure that my dream has lasted long enough, (like, way longer than any others except maybe the last time), that my dream will have to end soon anyway. So I want to try out my backup plan to force my awakening. I let out my breath, and hold my airways closed as hard as I can.

At first, as in real life, nothing really happened. But soon the need for air was catching up, and I started feeling 'air hunger'. Once this began, something fascinating happened. The dream scene faded, and at each increase of intensity of my air hunger, the scene would change entirely, as if in a movie. I started out a feet feet above a set of green hills, and my viewpoint floated up slowly like a camera panning up. Then the scene changed, and I was on the African savanna, floating up from among the dry grasses of the plain, with trees in the background, and the sun on the horizon. This continued to happen, until about 10 seconds later, I heard the ever familiar sound of my fan to the left of my bed fade into my audial perception, and I knew somehow that this time I had truly awaken. You know, I think what it is is that you sense that your full reasoning ability has returned to you, in a way that it doesn't in a false awakening. But this is one of those "you won't know it until you experience it" things, since in false awakenings, you consider your lessened reasoning abilities perfectly normal. But anyway, I plugged my nose, and confirmed I was awake. And then I laid my head back down on the pillow, and have been working ever since to remember this all. I know that there was so much more, but I suppose this will improve with practice.

      Account:
I'm really not sure how to categorize this last experience. It was just now, about five minutes ago.

I had performed around 7 SSILD repetitions, and had been trying to let myself fall asleep. Remembering what I had done before, I turned over onto another position, this time onto my back. And I could tell I would asleep soon.

Five minutes ago, my eyes were closed, and I figured I would do a reality check. I reached my hand up to my nose, plugged it, and yet felt myself breath through it anyway. Of course, I instantly opened my eyes. But I couldn't move. My hands were up against the blanket, and the most I could do was nudge the blanket a quarter inch or so. But I could see, and I looked all around me, and the room was accurately detailed to the very dot. I figured it was just a realistic false awakening. So I continued to try to break the sleep paralysis. Giving up on the direct approach with my hands, I started on my legs, knowing these could usually be moved earlier. Pushing up against the bed with them, I could feel the movement unlocking the control of my arms and head. I started moving my arms in a pawing motion to get them out of the blanket. And this is where the strange stuff happened.

I could feel my arms having gotten the blanket off of them, and yet I could see very plainly that they hadn't. Figuring my feeling and sight were just out of synch, I tried to focus my brain on the tactile portion and think I really had. But I still had my eyes open, and the room was exactly the same, at exactly the same angle. The final part of the breaking out involved my bringing my head up, to then get up into the dream world. But the moment I brought my head off of the pillow, with my eyes still open from before, I felt different and I knew that I was awake. And I did a reality check, of plugging my nose, (which has only failed once, by the way, because I did it wrong), and it also reported I was awake. And it left me wondering… what just happened?

The only explanations I can think of are that I was in a false awakening, and my dreaming was so accurate that when my real vision kicked in with my eyes still open not a single visual dot had changed, or more oddly, that my tactile perception was from within a dream, and my visual perception was from the real world. I very much think it was the latter, since I had my eyes open the entire time. But either way, it was certainly an odd experience.

Methods: lay in bed for the night; repeated the alphabet mentally and used some other experimental methods for quite a while.

Summary: only thing I really remember is a clip where I know I'm dreaming, am by this weird creature that I think made me lucid, and facing my fear and staring right into him; I remember that on doing so, my fear actually left me and the creature looked kind of funny, and I was filled with a sense of curiosity and amazement; I then remember waking to blackness, just remembering I should ask it who it was; I then find myself in bed, but some odd events with an alarm clock in the attic and Mom talking about it leads me to believe that it was a false awakening; a minute or so later I tested and was actually awake, so I think I faded from the false awakening to a real one.

I turn over on my right side. A few minutes pass, and I start to notice that the thing's I'm thinking of are being visualized somewhat sharply. I try to make them even more vivid, and successfully imagine a scene with me sitting in a room with some other people, and seeing their faces very clearly. I'm in an unsustainable position, so when I move, I notice it fade. This happens a couple more times, each time vivid visualizations. Eventually, I find that they don't work anymore, and just lie there trying to embed what happened in my memory. But then I realize I should always do a reality check after lucid dreams. I do one, am blown away to find I'm still dreaming, and try to get up, but in the very process of feeling my dream body rise, I wake myself up, *and my rising continues with my real body*, until I'm sitting up, and verify that I'd just awoken.

"What beautiful music…", and I realize I'm dreaming. I'm still lying in bed with my eyes closed, and the music seems vaguely familiar. As I listen for the next minute or so, I realize that it's the instrumental portion of a song I'd heard Chrissy play a few times before. What's neat is that even though I remembered the song, and I think even it's name, I could not consciously remember what notes were coming up. *Even so, my brain was somehow able to replay the whole thing, and with each step I could then recollect it consciously*. And it wasn't just fuzzy or ambiguous, every note was played with precision and clarity. By the time it had finished I remembered it all, though since then it's faded from my memory. (I didn't even remember this part happening until hours later, and by then I had forgotten what the notes were)

Another isolated memory is of knowing I was dreaming, and trying to turn a light on, but finding that it only shed a small amount of light. I have no idea what came before or after this, except that it was in the middle of other things.

My main chunk of memory begins with me waking up from a previous segment of lucid dreaming, with the suspicion that I'd find myself in a false awakening. My guess is that this was based on the last segment's shortness, and the knowledge that REM cycles usually last longer. But in any case, on awakening I knew there was a good chance I was still asleep. But I found myself to be extremely tired, enough that I barely even went through with performing reality checks. I was glad to find that I was still dreaming, but I had to do something to fix my sleepiness! I tried to think over my dream goals at this point. I thought of my idea from earlier, of moving around very slowly to see if that would keep me asleep longer. But actually, I found that kind of boring for the moment, so I changed my mind and decided on climbing out the window, and trying to move down the side of the building like spider-man. Still desperately tired, I tried to imagine/conceptualize myself standing up next to the window, and after a few seconds I managed to do so. Now standing by the window, I unlatched the two locks, and slid the window over to the left. Making sure to move very slowly, I pulled myself up onto the window sill, with my head near the top. In doing this my head pressed against the screen, and I felt a gust of warm wind from outside, and it felt like I was in Chicago or something in the summer. It actually felt very nice, and apparently it changed my dream, because on looking out the sun was near the horizon and I was up in a hotel room that was just above the top of another building, a few feet down.

Still holding onto the window sill, I lowered my body down slowly. My feet touched the outer edge of the other building, and I started to release my hands as I moved my left and right feet onto opposite walls, preparing to go down by maintaining pressure on both sides. I did this rather easily, and I reached the ground in about half a minute. At the bottom was a grassy area just next to the road in our development. My vision was bit hazy, so I stared at my hands and corrected the clarity. I walked out slowly onto the pavement, and was thinking over what to do next. It was warm out, and some of the other neighbors were playing outside. I saw some people around my age a few houses down, a teenage brother and sister. I walked over to them and started talking to them, but apparently I scared them away because they went inside. All that was left was little brown toad, that hopped away onto their driveway. I suppose next time I need to introduce myself.

Anyway, my vision was becoming hazy again, so I tried to stare down at my hands. Unfortunately, they wouldn't appear, even though I could totally feel them. Worried I would wake up, I scanned the ground and tried to concentrate on the cracks in the cement. This actually worked, and my vision returned to normal. But unfortunately I found myself with only one eye open, so I still felt a little disoriented. Knowing that messing with my eyes would likely wake me up, I took the risk and opened up my right eye anyway. For about a second, I could see the dream world very clearly with both eyes. But then I started to wake up, and something unheard of happened. The in-dream movement of my right eye had apparently done something, and my in-dream vision was fading, *but only at first for my right eye*. That's correct, for a split second I could see both the driveway of the in-dream house with my left eye, and my blanket and bedroom with my right eye, simultaneously, overlapping within my visual perception. "Incredible!" I had no idea this was possible, and in that moment I was utterly in awe, because I'd actually done it—I had brought together two worlds! For the first time in my life I had direct observation of them simultaneously, and I can finally say by direct comparison that the vision in a dream can be as clear as reality. There was absolutely no difference; other than that in this case, it was even a bit clearer. (I suppose because my right eye was only open partially)

The thought might arise that perhaps I had not truly awoken. But I know that I did because I didn't go back to sleep—I woke up, and went to the bathroom, and got a drink of water, and did multiple reality checks. Only after all this did I begin my next attempt. And now I'm kicking myself—I wish I had written it down right then!

But, *YES!* I can prove I was awake! I had brushed my teeth when I went to the bathroom, *and I just checked and it is still wet*. Ah… that's good; that would have bugged me forever otherwise…

      Account:
I was standing near a door, quite a ways into a regular dream. Something about the door made me realize I was dreaming, I think. I still heard the conversation going on between the two characters in the unfolding plot and my parents, (they were from the Middle Ages), but I didn't really care at this point.

I opened the door, and saw a beautiful front yard. It started out with a series of a few cement steps, down to a black-top road which made a circle. Inside this circle was a grassy area, with a large and lush tree growing in the center and branching out over the road. Far ahead was a road the driveway connected to. To the left was a forest of lush trees, like those in a jungle, and a series of rolling hills, eventually coming up to a raised highway. I walked over to this section on the left, and stared out at it. And then I saw a bird fly overhead, dropping a shadow onto my scene. And then another, and another. There were hawks or a type of eagle, and they were large, but not enough to be a threat or anything, though I figured that they may multiply if I focused on them too much. (a large part of lucid dreaming is learning to control it, and keep yourself stabilized in one. I'm doing all-right with inducing them, but not so good with these control techniques yet, which is why I do practice such as the following)

Wanting to test something while I was at it, I figured I'd try summoning again. I tried to think of a suitable object. I wanted something that would be easy to conceptualize for the first try. I thought of my Blue's Clues stuffed animal from when I was younger, that I gave away and was sad over as a kid. I figured, why not! I stared out onto a part of a distant hill. Conceptualizing the object's shape and color, and mentally creating expectations, *poof* it appeared before me in the scene, as a live (though still 'stuffed') animal, that then began running to me, almost in slow motion. It eventually made it over, and it leapt up into my arms as I held it against me. And it felt just like it did when I was little. And as I put my hand up towards its neck, I wasn't even thinking about it, but it even had the same marking that identified the original. A rip in its neck from playing with it. A thought that was so cool because I forgot about that rip, but it came into my dream anyway. While I was still holding it, I 'woke up'.

Except not into a bed. Instead, I found myself in a tall office building, with many large glass windows. I looked out, (it was bright and sunny), and saw dozens of other tall buildings, the most obvious of which had a massive flat top, on which some interesting events were taking place. Apparently, there was some kind of conflict. There were people walking around on there, but also one who looked kind of malicious. She was old, and slightly deformed, and she appeared to be pestering the people there. At first, when I was watching her, she was just moving around all over the place. But then when I started to look at any other individual, I'd notice that she'd walk over to whoever I stared at. Interesting. I stared at that guy on the left, she followed my expectations and walked over to him. I stared to the right, same thing. And then I saw Kevin (Schram von Haupt) walk into the scene from the bottom left. He was walking relaxedly, and was quite a bit taller than the old lady. As he came up to her, she apparently grabbed onto his arm. He quickly broke free, but he had to use quite some force, and in doing so he bent her arm a bit. I'm laughing out loud right now, (quietly though), because what she did next was so funny. She made a little grunting sound, while staring at her bent arm, and then caused her arm to go back the way it was, but it was so funny because her sound effect was like the sound one would make for like a character that's really weak, the sound of pathetic exertion. Anyway, I decided to watch this unfold at a closer distance. Flying out over the building, I was moving somewhat clumsily. Letting myself fall too far on one of the flight cycles, I actually got within just a few feet of the building, and the old lady actually grabbed onto me. I tried to go back up, but she was holding onto my finger, with quite some force. At first it was a bit shocking, but not so much once I realized that in dreams there is very rarely pain, and she could do no harm to me. So I figured I would just see what happened. Holding onto my arm, she had that regular delight that you see in movies when they catch someone. (you know, the evil laugh, etc.) But I stood there looking at her, and wasn't actually afraid once I 'let go' and just waited in calm observation. She was holding her mouth open, so I figured I would try putting my hand in it. So I did, and what's funny is I could feel the saliva and her gums, and it felt weird but so cool that I could actually do that, to someone who would normally be in a nightmare. She didn't like that, and when I took my hand out, she started spitting at my face. It felt kind of gross, but it's not quite as bad when you know it's not actually on you. Anyway, the feeling of it on my face, (and in my mouth!), woke me up.

Now back in bed, I found it odd that the feeling within my mouth had lingered from the dream a bit longer than I had expected. But oh well. I looked down, and the iPad was on. And it had a record of all the words I said in my sleep! I even checked, and it was mostly accurate, and I was excited because it would help me remember the events. But then I asked myself how it knew those words. "Oh, that's why I have these headphones on, and oh, I don't remember that microphone on there but whatever." I took the headphones off, and was just resting in bed, thinking over my dream. "You know, I should probably check the time for my dream journal. But oh, I'm so tired. Nah, I'll just remember what time it feels like, around 6." A few seconds pass, and I know I'm just making excused because my body feels dead tired. Slumping over on my other side, I finally get up the motivation, with my muscles just wanting to sleep, and press the alarm clock light and look down at the time. 5:02. Interesting, a bit earlier than I'd expected, but okay, fine. Hmmm…. a bit odd that it's right by the hour again, just like last time. I think this over in bed, theorizing why this would be. *Beep, beep, beep* "Oh great, my alarm. It must have just gone off." I turn back over and tap the snooze button. The beeping stopped. *Bang, bong, bang, bong, bang, bong* "What? I thought I already turned it off. Yep, I definitely did. Then what is this?" It continued. I realized it sounded like another alarm. But then suspiciously, I noticed it's direction change from my own alarm, to the alarm in Chrissy's room. "Wait, that's not how Chrissy's alarm sounds either." And then it hit me. "Do a reality check!" I put my hand up and plugged my nose, and "Oh my goodness, I am still dreaming!"

Bursting out of bed in an instant, I ran out of the room so quickly that my vision almost immediately vanished. I was going on merely by touch. I realized, while racing down the stairs, that I needed to do something, quick, once I reached the bottom to reset my vision. Once I made it down, I raced for the light switch, and the moment I flipped it my vision returned to normal. I remembered at this point my experiment, to try to simply sit in one spot and see how long I can stay in the dream. But I had to pick a location. Hmmm… How about right where I'm standing? Nah, let's go over a bit onto the carpet, right there in the living room. So I did, sitting down with my legs crossed. (Yes, I can do this in a dream! Perhaps not so well in real life… haha) But it was kind of quiet, just sitting there. I wanted some company. No time like the present to practice my summoning skills! So I try to think of someone to make appear. I figure I might as well try with my cousin, Andy. So I stare out into the family room, which apparently had become lit, and try to think of what to do mentally to get him standing there. As I do this, I find myself holding my brother Davey. Nice! He can help me yell out the words, once I think them up. "Okay, so Andy would be right *there*!", I yell with Davey, putting mental emphasis and expectation on that last word. And the moment we said it, Andy appeared there, living and breathing and grabbing a piece of pizza out of the container that appeared in front of him! "And Hanna would be right *there*" And my cousin Hanna appeared, and started walking around. "And Dad would be right *there*", "And Mom would be right *there*", "And Chrissy would be right *there*", "And Monica would be right *there*", "And Uncle Paul would be right *there*". By the time I had woken up, I had summoned almost a dozen people, and it was so cool because it worked every time, and they were living and breathing beings, walking around like in real life, doing their own activities. This will be very neat in the future, since I plan to have longer adventures, and it'll be nice to go along with company. But for now I will continue to experiment, and improve my skills, so I can someday actually do this.

Oh, one final note. This is the third time ever that I've had a lucid dream during my regular sleep session! This is very exciting, again because it means I can start to take advantage of my every night sleep, and not spend so much time on morning naps. Also, the dreams during the night seem to be more random, like I find myself in cool new locations, so it has the adventurousness advantage as well. (although, someday I plan to teleport myself places anyway, but for now it means more interesting locations than just my house) Anyway, I'm pretty happy with this.

I had just woken up from a mild nightmare. I figured I might as well do a reality check, and I found that I was still dreaming.

At this I then got up, and started clapping my hands at arm distance, as a test for increasing the dream's vividness. This is, I think, the first lucid dream I've had in which the setting was during the night. It was dark, so I walked out into the hallway and switched on the light. And it worked, the first try, I guess because I wasn't thinking about it, and so simply expected it to work, whereas the other times I've tried turning them on with the doubts already in place. Anyway, I turned on a few more, and started walking downstairs. On reaching the bottom, I looked up and saw Mom and Dad looking down from the top, over the railing, presumably because I woke them up by turning all of the lights on. Cupping my mouth, I yelled, "LISTEN EVERYONE. WE'RE DREAMING." At this, my parents and my sister Chrissy bolted off towards their rooms, and I heard some yells of excitement, like I think for instance I heard a "Yeehaw!", which I copied. But then as I ran up with them, I realized I was already dreaming, so there would be no point in going back to bed. This also happens to be the point at which everyone reversed their direction and started going downstairs.

I started following them down. As I got to the bottom again, I thought of performing another test. I decided to try whistling. At first, like in real life, my mouth was not ready and it wasn't working. But within a few seconds, I had readied my lips and was whistling quite clearly. I then went on into the living room, and I think my family was setting something up, to watch a movie or something. But then I realized a thing that I hadn't seen yet in any of my dreams. Apparently, my subconscious knew somehow that I didn't have any contacts in, (unlike almost every other time, since I have them in during naps), and so on looking around downstairs, my vision was quite clearly blurry. Anyway, I tried to ignore it as I tried to keep looking around. I heard a conversation or two, but I forget what specifically we said. I know at one point, I heard Monica say something from over in the family room. I don't remember very clearly what happened next, but I know that it only lasted about another minute. And I remember what I said right before I woke up. "Something, something, something… that's so cool." And then I was actually awake, wishing I had had a few more seconds to try creating fireballs again.

I'm in my room, and I realize I'm dreaming. I don't remember what happened next, except at some point I was trying to "roll out of bed". Eventually I wake up.

I'm in bed, and I realize I'm still dreaming. I get up and do stuff I can't remember anymore, although I know that at some point I thought of trying to use the fireball power again, but decided not to for some reason. Eventually I wake up.

I'm in bed, and I realize I'm still dreaming. I get up, but another person starts talking to me, and eventually wakes me up.

I'm in bed, and I realize I'm still dreaming. I get up, and I forget exactly what happened, but I ended up talking to some person in my room about a computer game we were making together, I think some kind of adventure game. I remember testing the finger-through-hand idea, and I felt it work, but I didn't actually see it go through. It felt really neat though. Chris comes in, and seeing us talking about the game, comments that it's nice to see I've been working on the game. At first I say something positive about this, but then tell him that we had actually only started just that day. I still knew I was dreaming at this point, but I was losing my focus and getting wrapped up in the dream plot. I talked with him about the game, and tried showing him it on the computer. I was going to use the keyboard to test a feature I had added a few minutes earlier. At first the game showed up very small at the bottom left. So I pressed stop, and changed it to full-screen. It started working, but then the game glitched. The window was full-screen, but the graphics part, the part that was being drawn to kept shrinking, starting on the bottom right working it's way up-left. The rest of the screen was jumbled as well. I got frustrated with this, and wake up.

I remember there being a lot more, (enough that by the third FA I was surprised that my REM phase had not ended yet), but I forgot most of it, both because they weren't as clear as usual, and it's been about an hour and a half since I had them. (I tried for some more before recording these)

I was standing in the hallway of the van Doorn's house. Chrissy and I had just come in. I remembered some thought about lucid dreaming, and I walked back to Chrissy to tell her about it. We had just come from some kind of concert, and I think it had some connection. On walking up, the thought struck me, "Wait, why am I here?" And then I remembered I had been falling asleep in bed, just a few minutes earlier. "Oh my goodness, this is a lucid dream!" Excited, I looked all around me, and started walking around also, just taking in everything that was going on. First, the rooms were different. The doorway was "behind me", the entry was where I was standing, and to the right just a bit was a stove, which had meat of some sort cooking on it. I watched as Mr. van Doorn walked up to it, picked up the pan, and then dumped it out, saying something about how it wasn't cooked right. I then walked ahead into the kitchen/dining, and Kristy and her Mom were cooking something different there, dough of some sort in pieces that were shaped and lying on the counter, about to be fried or something. Mrs. van Doorn said something in response to Mr. van Doorn, something like "If you always throw the food out, then it's not truly trial and error". I'm not entirely sure how true that is, but hey, it wasn't me who said it. Anyway, quite a bit more happened, but I forget most of it, because this is from the first half of dreams, which I woke up from and didn't record until after the second half.

I woke up in bed. I did my reality check, and discovered I was still dreaming. But again I could not move. So I tried, again, the method of rolling out of bed. But instead of beginning to float, I just had a very odd orientation as I went over the edge and was then stuck in place looking down at the floor. Not that interesting, and anyway I woke up.

I woke up, did my check, and was again still dreaming. I remember I was struggling with my blankets. I could move, but everything was heavy, and my arms were very weak for some reason, like when you're dead tired. It was kind of annoying, and I woke up.

Back in bed, I again discovered I was still asleep. This time I could actually get up, though. Now standing up out of bed, I noticed my younger brother Davey over in the corner. I went over to him and lay next to him, and was talking with him for some time, about lucid dreaming, and how even if it's all an illusion, "I'll act as if you're real, since you all feel so real". And then I remember him talking with me about this, more clearly and with more understanding than usual. With that said, I then decided I should take him outside flying with me. I picked him up, and headed over to the window. My vision was a bit hazy, so I stared for a while at the window, and it became much more vivid and sharp. (on par with real life, for instance clearer than my vision at that distance without contacts) I opened up the two locks, pushed the window to the side, and forced my way through the screen. Pushing myself off the window ledge, I had five or so seconds of flying before my vision deteriorated so badly that I genuinely woke up. It felt really cool, as usual, although it wasn't as clear, I basically just had the feeling of flying.

Now having woken up for real, (and seeing it was only twelve something), I decided to try it once more. I turned onto my right side. The next thing I remember, I had woken up in my bedroom. I knew that I was probably dreaming, (I'm beginning to get quite used to this), so I did my reality check, by plugging my nose, and confirmed it. I now got out of bed, noticed that my vision was clearer than normal, and walked over to the door and opened it up. For a split second I saw our hallway, just as the door was opening, but it soon stabilized itself into a long wooden hallway, that from what I saw at the bottom, apparently connected to the van Doorn's kitchen. And then I heard Kristy to the left of me, say something about coming down and playing a game. So I started going down with her, and as I did I thought of an interesting test to do. Mr. van Doorn was standing in the unreal entrance between their kitchen and their unreal other dining room. I decided I would start with him. He smiled as I walked up to him, and I asked, “Mr. van Doorn, did you know that we’re lucid dreaming?”. Very interested in how he would respond, I watched him think this question over for a good four seconds. And then, turning his concentration back to me, he responded very simply, “Uh, no.” He answered pleasantly, as usual, but there didn’t seem to be that much interest. As if it were just an interesting realization or something, rather than the reason that he even exists! Anyway, I decided to go into the wrongly positioned living room, by going forward into the dining room, and then to the right, passing Steven at a second table. Dennis was stretched out on a recliner chair, and his sister and I think one of his friends were there. I came up asked him, “Dennis, do you know that we’re in a lucid dream?” Watching and listening intently, he pondered the question for at least five seconds, and then turned back and asked, “Why?” “Oh, come on! Just tell me!” And then he said something like, “No, I don’t want to.”, with a hint of smugness. “Okay, this is kind of ridiculous.”, I thought. I tried poking him in the stomach a few times, but then he got up and started doing the same to me, and he woke me up! I thought, “No!!! I knew I should have asked Steven first!”. Well anyway, that’s what happened.

I woke up in bed, and thinking myself to be awake finally, I just laid there processes the events for a few seconds. But then I noticed something very odd. Pastor Mike was downstairs telling a story! To his wife, I think, or maybe a kid, about a penguin or something, “as he walked across the glacier”. I knew I was dreaming, of course, and as I tried to get up, *with my eyes still open*, I felt as the scenery around me transformed into a misty black, and then I opened my eyes to see myself trying to get up, in my actual bed. Oh man!

Fascinating, the most unique experience so far.

I lay down in bed, to finish sleeping. I thought I might as well try some techniques while I was at it. I performed 5 or 6 cycles of the SSILD technique, combining the different parts for an additional minute or so, and then went on to start mentally repeating the alphabet. The alphabet thing was just a spontaneous experiment of mine, to see if I could start a WILD with it. Apparently it didn't work, and I eventually fell asleep.

I awoke, and remembered to do reality checks. I tried plugging my nose, and I could still breath. I tried getting up, but my body was stuck in bed. I remembered from the notes on the forums, that when finding yourself in sleep paralysis, you can try to get out of bed by rolling off of it. It also mentioned that this often results in an OBE, or "out of body experience". Some of those on the forums consider the idea almost spiritual, but as far as I've seen it's just a special type of lucid dream, in which your dream-creating mind simply thinks that you have no body. (presumably since you're attempting to "roll out of bed" with an immobile body) Anyhow, I began to try rolling out of bed. As I did this, I felt a sensation of weightiness on my left side, as I felt very clearly the other time. Aware that a doubtful thought would likely wreck it, I tried not to think that it wouldn't work, so I focused on the feeling of weightiness and encouraged it as I continued my attempt to roll out.

An incredible thing then happened. My body, which had felt locked-in, suddenly "broke free", and my vision became slurred, and started feeling delayed. As I "rolled out of bed" completely, it felt as though I began to float, and my vision then changed in a way that I've never experienced before. Rather than a continuous stream of visual data, my vision had changed unexpectedly into some kind of "snapshot mode", in which every two-thirds of a second or so, I would get another "snapshot" of wherever I thought my head was turned. Amazed at this, I just looked around for a few moments, taking in the incredible experience. I then remembered what I'd heard on the forums—that in cases like this you can often see yourself still in bed. I turned around, and I saw myself lying there. I tried not to get too excited, as I looked very closely up and down my body, trying to gather any details I could find on it. Nothing that unusual. It looked like my body, while resting, except with my blanket laid loosely on top. Because of this I couldn't see my face, which is fine since that would feel very strange anyway. I then focused on the feeling of my body again. And I realized that I couldn't feel one, and that I could turn and move around just by willing it. I then noticed something strange with my eyes. They had an odd and distinct feel to them. I noticed that every two-third's of a second—in synch with each "snapshot of vision"—I'd feel a sensation in both of my eyes that is similar to when they are strained or are moving around rapidly. I figured that this must just be the movement of the eyes that occurs during REM sleep, and that, in this special type of lucid dreaming, it was somehow caused to match exactly with the displaying of images within my dream. Anyway, I then went for the door, which my dream had correctly understood to be closed. I opened it up somehow, and then went down the hall, to begin my descent downstairs. But unfortunately I never got there.

I woke up in bed. I did my test, and I could still breath. I sat up, this time feeling my body, and it felt like a regular lucid dream. I walked towards the door, opened it, and my vision immediately faded.

I woke up, did my test, and I could still breath. I sat up again, and got out of bed. I walked towards the door, opened it, went down the hall, started going downstairs, and then my vision again faded.

I woke up, did my test, and I could still breath. I sat up, *again*, and got out of bed, and remembered to just calm down for a second. Looking around, it felt as though the dream had stabilized. I then went on to the door and opened it. I went down the hall, and heard things going on downstairs. I started going down the stairs, slowly, with the intent to not overexcite myself. I made it down, and saw Davey lying on his play mat, which was inaccurately placed in the living room. He was by himself, so I went over and picked him up, both as a help for the dream's stability, as well as to just have my brother with me. He was talking to me, and moving about, and his eyes were sparkling with recognition and happiness. By the level of lighting, it looked like it was sometime in the evening. I slowly walked over to the family room, still holding Davey, and some of my family members were watching something on TV. As I walked forward, my vision began to fade, and I fell to my knees in an attempt to stabilize. Unfortunately, I was either not fast enough, or I didn't perform the techniques correctly. I then checked, and I had actually awoken.

I also had a dream about card games… although it wasn't a lucid dream. It had something about a Munchkin, I think?
