Sounds strange to me. If you focus on how it should feel in detail, it would work, but so wii any body motion done that way.

It works well because it uses some of your senses, and almost all of your body in the dream. I've never tried this in a dream, but that is what I'm first going to do.
Sorry I can't really explain it any better, that's just a general idea.

In my LD a few days ago, I decided to give it a try. I started commando crawling all around, and I found it was waaay easier than in real life. I can't really explain it, but as I'm moving all parts of my body, I felt so much lighter. My dream ended short after that though So I'm not sure it's a good stabilization technique for me. But I will give it a try again next time, it might be different for everyone

Maybe it's a dream and if I scream, it will burst at the seams.

I would say give it a try and see if it works for you. Personally it doesn't work for me because yes, I would be using more of my senses but if I do so this will lead me to wake up. I much rather fly or float as a way to move towards more lucidity. Too much awareness and using using all of my senses too much will lead me to break out of lucidity.

I had used this technique in a lucid this morning. Stayed lucid for about 20 minutes, but I crawled like two times.

Out of the 8 LDs I've hard, I've used this technique 3-4 times with massive success. It's great because it separates your dream body from your waking body because most people do not sleep on their stomach.

For me it almost always coincides with a false awakening because I wake up on my back, become lucid and the dream begins to fade. I sort of half-dream, half-envision my dream body flipping over onto my stomach and crawling on the floor or bed, and without fail the dream begins to solidify around me until I am confident enough to stand.
