      False Sleep Paralysis

Have you ever had a False Awakening, and then you dream you are paralyzed in bed? I have had this many times. I think one thing it may be caused by is our dreaming mind is receiving input from our physical body. In other words, in the Wakeworld, our body is paralyzed by the SP hormone, so we don't injure ourselves in our sleep, and our mind receives that input through our sense of proprioception Proprioception - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia, just as our mind receives input from Wakeworld sounds, and sometimes they become sounds in our dreams, like our alarm clock becoming a fire alarm in the Dreamworld.
I think another cause may be fear of SP. When I was young (now 38), there was no internet for me to research strange dream phenomena. I used to believe SP was a demon sitting on my chest with its claws in my brain. My intense fear of SP caused me to have nightmares of SP.
I wonder if there are other causes of False SP.
      Please share some experiences.

Just to correct, there's no 'SP hormone' and you are confusing SP and REM Atonia here. REM Atonia is what keeps us from acting in waking world in REM, SP is sleep disorder when REM Atonia happens outside of REM. http://www.dreamviews.com/wake-initi...explained.html
As for causes of 'Fake SP', for some people it's fear, for some something else. Personally for me it rarely happens like unintentional dream incubation at times when i read through a good number of SP threads like this one.

^^ False REM Atonia it is then. Interesting concept, regardless; especially given that its root cause could well be expectations resulting from an obsession (or at least focused curiousity) with "SP."

It's true that a SP hormone is a personal hypothesis, but I think I might be able to find data on some scientific research on that topic. But maybe later.

Apparently REM Atonia is the medical term for sleep paralysis.

"Medically, sleep paralysis is sometimes called ... REM sleep atonia."
Atonia, REM sleep definition - Medical Dictionary definitions of popular medical terms easily defined on MedTerms

"Sleep paralysis is a phenomenon in which people, either when falling asleep or wakening, temporarily experience an inability to move. More formally, it is a transition state between wakefulness and rest characterized by complete muscle atonia (muscle weakness)."
Sleep paralysis - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

"Often called a nightmare, isolated sleep paralysis is not considered a sleep disorder (as when it occurs with narcolepsy), but rather an extremely disconcerting intrusion of the atonia, or paralysis, of REM sleep carried over into your waking state."
      atonia - definition and meaning

      Apparently atonia means paralysis.

Perhaps SP really is a demon because it has caused way too many misunderstandings and heated discussions around here.

WakingNomad, I know what you are talking about. After getting more lds, a smaller percentage of my lds would reflect different dream world glitches - loss of hearing, loss of sight, and dream paralysis (this is how I call this thing you refer to). In the beginning, I thought it was something mental, however, I never expected or was afraid of it, therefore it was really weird when it happened. I tried different advice from people about moving, yet on some occasions the feeling of dream paralysis would persist. My theory was something like, I haven't entered my dream body correctly, so I was partially feeling my real body, which couldn't move. Then I came across a question about this and the answer KingYoshi gave was quite similar to your explanation - i.e. that we receive physical input which we feel in the dream. And now I also think that this is it.

I have to say that I get this like 2-5 percent (guestimating here) of all lds this year, so it doesn't bother me that much. I prefer not to post about this however, because I believe a lot of people might misunderstand this and I don't want to set any expectations of it happening. If it does happen, there are other things one can concentrate on and wait it out.
