How much more helpful is saying it out loud?

When we are alone, we most often think to ourselves. In a lucid dream, you are most likely thinking or feeling your commands.
So I was wondering how much more effective it is to audibly ask/tell the dream to give you what you want. It seems to be able to bring clarity, whereas thinking about clarity does not, so maybe that's some evidence? Anyway, thanks for considering.

I have major difficulties making sound in lucid dreams; if I yell at the top of my lungs, a barely audible squeak will emerge.

However, whether thinking or squeaking has never had an impact on the succes of my commands/wishes.
So ... is this the real universe, or is it just a preliminary study?

I encourage training to be able to use your voice, as it is a skill that takes some practice. However, I almost never use any form of verbal command. The only time I do is if a DC has failed to respond to my mental crafting (knowing they will do such and such) then I use my voice and talk to them out loud.

After years of LDing, I still have trouble convincing myself to talk out loud sometimes, because I worry that I will speak out loud in bed, or it just seems so quiet in my dream and I feel awkward breaking the silence. But it definitely helps to ground me in the dream and I become more confident once I start talking.
Sometimes if I'm trying to remember a task, I will talk out loud to myself to make sure I don't get lost in my thoughts and lose lucidity.
I also sometimes use voice commands like "increase clarity" or "increase lucidity" if the dream is feeling fuzzy, or if I'm not fully in my body (like if the dream starts in third person.)
But I will often go through a whole LD without talking at all, where I'll use other stabilisation techniques and use my thoughts to control the dream instead.
Both methods work well for me, but perhaps there is some extra benefit in speaking out loud.

That is exactly what I think, I'm Always worried I will start talking out of bed and wake everyone up. For me speaking commands work a lot better than thinking them.

I use to have trouble speaking.
If I can't find my voice, I hum softly with my mouth closed. Then hum louder. Then with my mouth open. Then change the pitch.
This is how I've learned to do most of my dream control: Slowly building upon smaller, easier tasks.

This is a very helpful thread. I have also found, at times, that my voice is either inaudible or distorted in a lucid dream. Most often when I am trying to draw a DC's attention to the dream we are in, or ask a DC why they are in my dream. Thank you, WhiteWind, for the humming tactic!
