      How do you stabilize?

this is a question that it seems is almost skirted around recently. People might throw in how they stabilize here and there, but I wanted to make a specific thread for it so we could keep all the answers in one place and see how people do it. So, how do you stabilize your lucid dreams?

Personally, my stabilization technique is a bit weird, and a lot of people will tell you not to do it. I can tell when my dream's about to end because it will get really fuzzy. So, what I do is I stop everything and I focus on one point in the dream. I stare at it and put all my energy into it, and all of a sudden, there is a rush of energy and I see everything clearly again. I also do the Watch RC every now and then to tell myself I'm dreaming.

I don't know if this works for everybody but, after i realize i'm dreaming and if i remember to stabalize my dream i would rub my hands. It works great for me. And if i don't close my eyes, (Which always ends my dreams) then rubbing my hands always makes the dream last for quite a while. Although my non lucids lasts longer than my lucids sometimes.

Never works for me. I actually find hand rubbing disruptive.

As to focussing on a single object, Laberge advises the same as standard practice.

I discovered this technique before I knew what a lucid was. I remember staring at road markings as dreams reformed around me.
This was highly entertaining, as I would often find road markings inside buildings when I needed them.

thanks for that thread! I´m still a bit unsure about how to stabilize and wanted to ask that for a while by myself.

For me, closing my eyes and touching something in the dream works really good.

I actually do nothing. For me trying to do stuff to stop it just ends it that much quicker, like a catalyst. The only thing that seems to work is to simply stand still and not make any sudden movements.

I tried the "focusing on my breathing" thing last night to keep a lucid going. I was surprised to actually feel air filling my mouth and lungs in a dream. Whenever the topic of breathing is mentioned in conjunction with lucid dreaming, I always remember when Morpheus was telling Neo of the Matrix:

"You think that's air your breathing?"
Life in a box is better than no life at all, I expect. You'd have a chance, at least. You could lie there thinking, "Well. At least I'm not dead.'

I've been rubbing my hands together since day one and I don't think it's been working. I may try the technique LaBerge advices.

      Thanks!

rubbing hands is not enough for me!
I recently realized that I must be aware of my hole oniric body-specially my legs! in order to stabilize my dreams: 4 of 4 attempts-I'm still impressed because of the lenght of these 4 dreams (last night was the latest one and I don't even remember how I realized I was dreaming in the first one of them). To do it, I start making small jumps rising my knees one at a time(not looking for flying, just normal and common wake-life jumps) in order to feel my legs, because it's there were my body starts fading.
I think it works because it gives my brain the feeling of a more real body (including gravity) and avoids my brain focusing on my real body lying on the bed.
hope it works for someone else, regards!

I can usually stay in dreams for a longer time period if i rub my hands together. Once, i tried doing the hand through the palm technique even though i already knew i was in the dream. I did it and the dream immediately nuked itself, i managed to hold onto it by rubbing my hands & it came back with more detail than before. I think i am going to stick with the hand rubbing from now on.
