Help! My Dream tried to kill me!

      The House Tsunami
      -Lucid - DILD

I’m in a new house. It’s a town house with a high ceiling and big empty living area. everything is bright, white and clean even the wood floors. I walk through slowly and feel like I recognise the house and I’ve been in it before. I look in one of the bedrooms and then as I’m walking around I just realise casually ‘this is a dream’. Now lucid I decide this empty room isn’t that interesting and I don’t want to waste my dream here so I look for a door to use as a portal which is one of my dream goals. I find a door and go to it and as I do I decide where I want it to take me. A peaceful forest I think. As I reach the door though I see water is gushing out of the frame and starting to flood the floor which is becoming a river. I decide to find another door instead and find a second door at the other end of the room but I see again water is gushing out and this time the door blows off and the walls collapse as a cascade of water comes crashing towards me. ‘Oh no’ I think and believe this collision is sure to wake me up. I turn my back to it and the foamy water wraps around me and sweeps me off my feet. It’s powerful and it pushes me forward and up into the air. The house has now gone and only a massive dark ocean with roaring waves can be seen below me. I have no control and wonder why this is happening. I suspect maybe my subconscious is trying to take me somewhere, maybe show me something. “Whoa!” I yell as I fall at speed down towards the waves and I’m glad it’s there to break my fall but at the same time I know it will wake me up when I hit it. I land in the water with a big firm splash and feel myself torpedo through the dense water unharmed. It’s then I come out in an underwater temple, like something out of Tomb Raider and land on a stone floor. I only see this for a Brief second and then my vision goes dark and patchy as the dream begins to fade. I try spinning but it doesn’t work and everything goes black but I can still feel the floor below me and try to visualise it again hoping it will bring me back. I try to hold on to the dream and yell out to my subconscious to “stop it now! I want to keep going!” and all I get in response is another powerful surge of water which knocks me down consumes me under it and I gasp with a choke as I try to breath and realise there is no air! I’m drowning in the darkness and it feels unpleasant and very real so I stop breathing and drift breathless for a moment and then I wake up.

      My Analysis:
Short but interesting lucid dream. My main goal was to try change my dream location through a door and I was able to form a plan within the dream which showed I was fully conscious and thinking as I would in waking life. Then came that water?! This is where things got strange?
I wasn’t thinking about water and It felt very random to be gushing out of the frames. (And no I didn’t wet the bed or need a wee when I woke up lol) It just seemed my dream was trying everything to stop me achieving my goal which is a little irritating. I strongly believed my subconscious was behind all this during the dream and when the water swept me away I thought it was trying to transport me somewhere as I wasn’t in control at all at this point. I’ve never had a lucid dream where I’ve been so out of control. It really felt like my dream was fighting back at points. I did end up somewhere cool but I didn’t have time to look around before I lost my sight. I was able to hold onto my dream body for a short while and pleaded for my mind to let me continue. Then another cascade of water consumed me and then that horrible drowning sensation. I can’t explain how real and uncomfortable that felt. To be gasping for air and have nothing fill your lungs was very unpleasant and I can believe that’s what drowning actually feels like. It’s not something I want to experience again and I’m glad I woke when I did. When I did wake I could sort of feel the sensation of gasping in my throat and wondered if I actually did choke slightly in real life and that’s what woke me? Very odd. Of course I don’t believe my subconscious was really trying to kill me but it was a surreal experience and though a little uncomfortable was exactly the kind of weird and wonderful thing I want to experience more.

So I just wanted to share this and see what others think about it?

That is a very interesting dream! I was wondering if you had maybe ended up face down in your pillow and were having trouble drawing breath. Then you said you wondered if you had choked. I think that seems very likely. I also wonder if something you have seen in real life fed the image of water coming through the doors?

This dream happened a few months ago now so my memory of that day isn’t clear but I don’t remember anything to do with water or drowning. Like I said, you’d think I needed a wee or wet the bed or something but no, there was no explanation. It’s not the first time a dream has tried to stop me achieving a goal though. I’ve had a similar situation where I tried to use a door to change location and found the dream had put a heavy cabinet in front of it. So I think this was the dream working against me in the same way. Why that happens I’m not sure. Maybe my mind expects the task to be difficult and these things manifest as a result.
Ive never felt so out of control in a lucid dream though and it really did feel like the dream was toying with me... Hmm now I’m thinking about it there’s that famous quote about lucidity comparing it to “controlling the sea”. Maybe this was on my mind that night and my interpretation of it?

I woke up from the drowning laid on my back and regained my breath instantly. I do wonder if the gasping was just a very realistic but imagined sensation as I expected not to breath under the water. But I could feel it in my throat when I woke as if I had just done it as my eyes opened. It was very strange and I’m glad I did wake up as it was very unpleasant.

I had a dream many years ago where I was burned on my thigh. When I woke up I had pain at that spot that faded quickly. I never knew if the pain was from the dream or if the dream was because something had hurt my leg.

I think its natural resistance to introspection. A part of you does not want you to see what's inside you. Water represents emotion aandhi sea floor is your subconscious itself. The underwater temple is your subconscious which you did not get to see for long before your vision went dark because this part of you did not want you to see it.

That’s an interesting interpretation. Thanks for sharing. I had another similar occurrence more recently whilst lucid in which I ran through a wall to change location and fell for a short while through darkness until I arrived in what appeared to be an infinite warehouse. After walking through it I was lead into some kind of control centre which felt very important almost like a central hub of my subconscious. I spoke to some of the workers there and asked them to help me fix some emotional problems I was dealing with. They looked rather nervous to see me like I was the big boss who had come down without warning. I woke shortly after but it was an interesting experience and intriguing to imagine there is some place deep inside your subconscious where all the important thoughts and decisions happen.
