      Question Problem with dream signs

Ok, so it seems that whenever I try to commit a dream sign to memory... it stops showing up. For instance, for a few nights last week I noticed that my dad kept showing up in my dreams, so I made it a point to recognize whether or not I'm dreaming when I see him.

I haven't remembered him in a dream since then.

It happens only with people, since I haven't looked for signs aside from them (which I think I should try to find now).

My question is, why is this happening? It only seems to happen with individuals. I've tried to blanket all dream signs from people I know from Vermont, because I'm not within reach of any of them, but they show up all the time and I never notice.

My other question is, how do you guys pick your signs and most importantly, how exactly do you make them effective?

I feel that if I get over this hump I'll be really close to having a real LD. Please, any input is welcomed!

      Well...

I myself seem to have loads of drean signs which have been in my dreams for... uh, multiple times, such as drowning, being chased, my brother, black wolf (not that much), old school, home...
What I hear is, you should pick ones that are the most common or so... maybe to use a mantra "Next time (name) appears, I realize I am dreaming" or something? But I am not sure.
      Lucid dreaming goals:

Fly( ) Tame a recurring wolf that has been in about 10 different dreams/nightmares ( ) Fly on a Night Fury from HTTYD ( ) Ask my subconscious why I have so many nightmares ( )
Fight agent Smith ( ) Ride a huge spider to a battle against a beenest ( ) Face all of my nightmare creatures and beat them ( ) Be a god ( )

Hmm, I bet that's very annoying. Aren't there any other dream signs you could try? Scenery, situation etc. Perhaps dream signs isn't the best technique for you. Tried MILD? Intentions, meditation and just looking forward to it alot. I wish you the best of luck!

It almost sounds like your subconscious is placing roadblocks to prevent you from becoming lucid! Identifying dream signs doesn't always work for everyone. A technique you might want to try is MILD, saying something like "I will recognize when I'm dreaming." Then you can always practice general awareness, because if you genuinely question things, you can become lucid without a dream sign or any cue that you're dreaming.
We all live in a kind of continuous dream. When we wake, it is because something,
some event, some pinprick even, disturbs the edges of what we have taken as reality.

perhaps that may be your problem. i found that when i did reality checks in real life and decided that i wasnt dreaming, this can spill into your dreams and you will consider lucidity, but somehow dismiss it. never tell yourself that you are not dreaming and you may have more luck

Well i'd say say is remember as much dreams as possible & see how many have the same thing in common example
Lots of my dreams since moving is seeing my old school alot probably 20 dreams so far that ive been at my old school so i make this my number

one dream sign since it pops up alot just last night i had a dream where I was at my old school but didnt atain lucidy (damn)

my second dream sign is my mum i dont know why but shes in lots of my dreams since i can remember but those dreams are starting to fade away

so yea look for any common things that are in your dream look through you DJ & see if you can spot anything thats common & aslo as what whiterain said do reality checks in real life you never kno you might be in a false awaking & you will do a reality check (make sure you do reality checks after waking up to increase the chance of doin it in a false awakening)
