Yeah, I second just staying still upon awakening. It can also help to remind yourself before you fall asleep that once you wake up, the first thing you will think will be, "What did I just dream about?" Its been a while since I had to build that habit. I've been thinking "what did I dream of" the first thing when I wake up for... a long time now! But I guess there was a time for me when I would miss it, or only remember it once in a while, until after reminding myself enough times.
Then, there were times when even if I remembered to try to recall my dreams, I still drew a blank. But I guess once you get the feel for what it feels like to remember a dream detail, then it will start to work better. Remembering a dream detail is kind of a unique feeling, I think.
So if you just keep remembering to try, soon as you wake up, you'll eventually get your first dream memory, and ge the "feeling" for it.
