Legalize marijuana and tax and regulate it like alcohol to be sure. As for the hard drugs, I agree with you, keep them illegal. But they should be decriminalized, and available through government funded rehabilitation programs. Make it so that the drug money is taken out of the hands of organized crime and into the hands of the people, but also make it so that the addicts get the treatment they need in order to become sober, instead of throwing them into prisons where their habits can only become worse. Just as surely as the repercussions of prohibition are an increase in crime, homelessness, drug use, government spending, mental illness and disease, the implementation of decriminalization, regulation and treatment of abused drugs and their users would be the opposite. For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.

lol ya it seems we did mattbrox. And I agree with your statement, for it was ignorance and prejudice (along with greed) that lead to the drug war in the first place!

An education system that teaches children to think for themselves, encourages them to see their peers as fellow humans and not competition, and allows children to see a world beyond hierarchical dependency and servitude. An education system that teaches self respect, morality and inspires an enthusiasm for life and passion for learning. An educational system that attempts to create healthy, openminded, thoughtful and independent people.

Why should they be illegal, it doesn't stop people from doing them. All it does is create a system through which crime can be funded.

Alcohol is just as dangerous if not more than most hard drugs, it's just less addictive. People do much stupider things while drunk than while on hard drugs. On top of this it's generally because of that person, not the drug. Bill Evens did lots of Heroin and wrote some of the most beautiful music ever written. It depends on the person.

Addiction is a sad state to be in, but making drugs illegal does little to nothing towards stopping or even preventing addiction. Proper information, open communication and people with a desire to help rather than punish addicts help. If the government was trying to deal with addiction or create a better society it would open up free treatment centers rather than sending people to be locked up in rape rooms. But this is not the purpose of drugs being illegal, it is to further class systems, to attack black and mexican people and to fund and create crime.
157 is a prime number. The next prime is 163 and the previous prime is 151, which with 157 form a sexy prime triplet. Taking the arithmetic mean of those primes yields 157, thus it is a balanced prime.

Rather than being lazy and apathetic, people should get off their butts and be the very change they so desire to see in the world (thank you Egypt!)

Sort of a moot point. If the way to make the world better is to have the human race go extinct, well, there's no sense in offing ourselves since there will be no one around to judge if the new world is better.

Furthermore, I see people make such a claim all the time. "Humans are parasites upon the Earth! I can't wait for the day that humans are gone!" Why don't such people just off themselves and get it over with? It's like the people from the Venus Project demanding that money be abolished, yet I wonder how many of them refuse a paycheck.

Or never made illegal in the first place. Hemp and marijuana would go further to solving the world's problems than most people realize.

I'm not saying I want to make the world better. I just know that humans aren't the best thing for this planet. I know, I don't want humans to go extinct, I was just answering the question. I don't think the author of this thread was talking about earth anyway, I think he was talking about society.

Well then if the human races goes *poof* there would be no society to make better.

Exactly, but the author said world, not society. If he would clarify that it would be appreciated.

This right here. What would really be ideal is if we could create an educational system that could handle the needs of every child rather then going with a cookie cutter learning system that only helps a certain handful. *looks sadly upon her own educational experience*

Also it would be helpful if humans could reach a point where their definition of advancement doesn't lie in how tiny we can make our iPods. We're so obsessed with our technological development that we often times ignore our social development. If you really look at humanity we're not that different then we were years back. The only change is the way and the reasons we kill each other.
