Legalize marijuana and tax and regulate it like alcohol to be sure. As for the hard drugs, I agree with you, keep them illegal. But they should be decriminalized, and available through government funded rehabilitation programs. Make it so that the drug money is taken out of the hands of organized crime and into the hands of the people, but also make it so that the addicts get the treatment they need in order to become sober, instead of throwing them into prisons where their habits can only become worse. Just as surely as the repercussions of prohibition are an increase in crime, homelessness, drug use, government spending, mental illness and disease, the implementation of decriminalization, regulation and treatment of abused drugs and their users would be the opposite. For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. |

An education system that teaches children to think for themselves, encourages them to see their peers as fellow humans and not competition, and allows children to see a world beyond hierarchical dependency and servitude. An education system that teaches self respect, morality and inspires an enthusiasm for life and passion for learning. An educational system that attempts to create healthy, openminded, thoughtful and independent people. |

Why should they be illegal, it doesn't stop people from doing them. All it does is create a system through which crime can be funded. |

157 is a prime number. The next prime is 163 and the previous prime is 151, which with 157 form a sexy prime triplet. Taking the arithmetic mean of those primes yields 157, thus it is a balanced prime.

Rather than being lazy and apathetic, people should get off their butts and be the very change they so desire to see in the world (thank you Egypt!) |

If the human race went extinct... |

Sort of a moot point. If the way to make the world better is to have the human race go extinct, well, there's no sense in offing ourselves since there will be no one around to judge if the new world is better. |

I try to deny myself any illusions or delusions, and I think that this perhaps entitles me to try and deny the same to others, at least as long as they refuse to keep their fantasies to themselves. - Christopher Hitchens

I'm not saying I want to make the world better. I just know that humans aren't the best thing for this planet. I know, I don't want humans to go extinct, I was just answering the question. I don't think the author of this thread was talking about earth anyway, I think he was talking about society. |

This right here. What would really be ideal is if we could create an educational system that could handle the needs of every child rather then going with a cookie cutter learning system that only helps a certain handful. *looks sadly upon her own educational experience* |
