Were you clinically diagnosed with OCD? |

That might be true but you still have the disorder. It isn't like if you suddenly go above a certain line you develop the disorder and if you fall below it you are cured. The diagnostic criteria is just used to help identify issues, and to identify how serious it is. |

From my experience, the vast majority of posters in this thread are normal human beings. |

I had OCD as a child. |

If I dont satisfy my compulsions I get a metalic taste in my mouth and the longer I resist the compulsion, the more cognitive dissonance I experience. This usually manifests as growing anxiety throughout the day. Exercise is a big help for me personally. |

Had PANDAS as a kid. It's a disorder producing symptoms of OCD, but after getting strep throat. I became religion-conscious, and feared hell and sins. It was the first time I ever opened a bible. I was scared of death to a ridiculous extreme (I even avoided videogames, as my mom told me they cause seizures). Handwashing, and keeping those mitts sanitary (along with anything that went into my mouth, food, water, and silverware) was the main compulsion. I would spend time trying to calculate my chances of contracting an illness from the (already e-coli contaminated) meat my mother would serve. At school lunch, I would eat my sandwich and chips using the bag to pick up the food, because I thought my fingers too dirty. I would pray nightly (I would pray to take my parents pains away, to let me feel it instead. I would also give thanks.). Along with that, I'd tap my fingers such that each finger got the same number of taps, and my feet would each step on an equal number of cracks. I lost 10 pounds in a week off of my overweight child frame from my food pickiness, which freaked mom out. |

My obsessive compulsive disorder is extremely annoying. First, I am uncomfortable using most acronyms and using the shorter versions of words, usually. I am comfortable saying "mods" instead of "modifications" but sometimes I just prefer the longer way. Whenever I touch something with one body part, I have to touch it in the same spot, with the same pressure, with the same object, on the opposite body part. For example, if I bump into the wall with my right arm, I would have to bump into the wall with my left arm. Otherwise, I feel unbalanced, and it still feels like I'm touching the object I touched. If I spin around, or spin a part of my body, I have to spin it the opposite direction or I "feel tangled up". This mainly goes for spinning my arms in a circle, and spinning my whole body around. If I place something down, I have to be 100% sure there is no crumbs or anything under it. I would do this by placing it down, picking it back up, wiping the bottom of it with my hand, and placing it back down, seeing if I feel anything under it. Refrigerator doors. If I open one refrigerator door, I must open the other one for the same amount of time, and I must swing it to the same spot. Also, when I close the doors, I must close them both at the same time at the same speed. Buying things. Whenever I want to buy something, I really want to buy the best one of it, even if the extra features don't help me out in anyway. Having things stay symmetrical doesn't really apply to me in real life, only in video games. So let's enter the world of video games. Whenever I play Xbox 360 (by the way, I hate saying just Xbox, I say Xbox 360) I always want to be player one, unless I'm at a friends house or something. I really don't know why. In Minecraft, everything I built must be symmetrical. Every time I try to make something look "natural" I end up making everything look even. Numbers of something. Let's say I have cobblestone. I will mine more stone to get 10. I do number stuff like this if the material isn't rare and is in reach. There is probably a few more things I missed but oh well. |

I don't have it, but my friend does. I must admit I was never fully educated about it until this year or so. You know how Jennifer Lawrence told Jesse Eisenberg she wanted his 'little OCD quirks'? I used to be like that a year ago. I was also going through my wannabe-scene-but-I-don't-have-the-money-phase at the time, so I don't think anyone took me seriously. |
