      Twin sharing a single body

Here we have two 16 year old girls living in the same body. Abigail and Brittany Hensel. They have 2 hearts, two brains, two arms and two legs, one for each. 3 lungs, one for each and one shared. The only living (and known) example of two people sharing a single body. Very interesting documentary.

There is also another video of when they are 22 years old, but I havenīt seen this one. Might watch it later one but I going to bed in a couple of minutes.
      22 years old:

What I found most interesting is not how it can be possible or how it works. But I was interesting in the 'human' aspect of these girls. How they deal with this and how vulnurable they seem and how they try to 'survive' or make things work for them in this world. It is a good lesson in relationships and in sharing and being patient with one another. Their patience with each other and teamwork and ability to go through life without being endlessly annoyed by each other is to me really amazing and something to think about and learn from. Just think about it, they have to justify every action, agree on everything, talk about everything and share all secrets with each other. They are probably closer to each other than any pair of people in the entire world. They might know each other even better than they know themselves.

I wonder what you think about this video.

In all seriousness, it is a pretty beautiful relationship they've got there. And its impressive that they've been able to live like that without getting absolutely irritated or insane in the process. Having to be completely (and I mean completely) open with someone else can't be easy and when you add the fact that they share the same body, it is phenomenal that they've done so well for themselves. Pretty inspirational.

I do wonder how the courts would react if one committed a crime. Perhaps they'd try the other as an accessory or something?

Well, one was watching as the other was doing the crime, right? It's not like they can keep a big secret from each other. So they are both guilty.

You can't dodge the question by inventing your own details to create an easy answer. It's a hypothetical situation in which the other twin was not culpable. Perhaps the first twin has control over one arm, and she used it to shoot a pedestrian.

I am not dodging anything. If the other one was not capable then she was not capable so she was not guilty.

Do you have some kind of anger problem? What is wrong with you?[/QUOTE]
No, I don't have any problem with anger. My problem is you two giving my thread a different direction than I had intended and with dutchraptor's "like" on your comment. And your comments are not a tad bit interesting. So even if you can describe a situation in which the condition of these girls makes things interesting, screw you. You're making this thread ugly.

Ironic much? You know, once you present a subject for discussion it becomes a thing with a life of its own - you need to share it with the community and see where it goes. You can't share it with a group of people and expect to have absolute control over what everyone is allowed to say.

I'm a conjoined twin, but only in the spiritual sense. My other half is a starving child in Africa. One day we shall be reunited.

Now that I think about it, there isn't really much to discuss. But I still can't just sit back and be quiet after someone posts senseless comments in a thread I created. And yeah it's pretty ironic

So someone who witnesses a crime is guilty of it? Seems to me like at worst they might be considered an accomplice if they help cover it up, or just an innocent bystander if all they did was witness.

I don't know the rules, but the other twin can only be innocent if she was unconscious. If she was conscious and functioning normally, she is equally guilty as the one who 'did it'. Because she was just watching and allowing her twin to act the crime out. Because I don't know the rules, I don't know how the court would react, but according to my common sense, yes. If she is watching and allowing something to happen she is equally guilty.

Bah! Thanks a lot... I've been lost on the internet looking up info on them for an hour
I saw the first video a long time ago. I didn't finish the second one.
      They are very inspirational.

Abigail and Brittany Hensel - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I'm sorry, but like so many other people it seems, I was most curious about their sex life. Not in a lewd way though, but in a practical one (I saw that Brittany was engaged, but it might have only been a rumor).
Forget about crimes... what about consent. I'd imagine both would have to be in love with the chosen mate. What if one wants children but the other doesn't? They said (in separate matters) that they have learned to compromise. It just seems so impossible.
One of the more interesting responses I found is: "“Based on what we know about the significant variability of one conjoined twin to feel a body part (e.g., an arm) that putatively ‘belongs’ to the other twin, it’s hard to guess how any conjoinment will turn out in practice. Nerves, muscles, hormones, and psychology all probably factor in to who feels what … Whether or not both are ‘having sex’ with the third person in the equation depends on how you think about ‘having sex’ … From my studies, I would postulate that conjoined twins probably end up having less sex than average people, and that is not only because sex partners are harder to find when you’re conjoined. Conjoined twins simply may not need sex-romance partners as much as the rest of us do. Throughout time and space, they have described their condition as something like being attached to a soul mate. They may just not desperately need a third, just as most of us with a second to whom we are very attached don’t need a third — even when the sex gets old.”"- 'Alice Dreger, a professor at Northwestern University and expert on conjoined twins' (Italics mine... the part I found most interesting.)

Thanks for sharing the videos. It was nice to see an update.

Ok, let's say you're a passenger in a car and your friend who's driving suddenly pulls out a gun and shoots at somebody. Should you be punished for it because you didn't stop him?

This is just repeating the question, not answering it. The question is how the courts would punish the guilty twin, if at all.

If you didn't want to hear anything other than what you posted, you shouldn't have made a discussion thread, should you? As Darkmatters says, you do not have a monopoly on the conversation. And in any case, if people were taking the discussion in a different direction from what you intended to discuss, the correct response would have been to politely state this and request that the discussion moves back in the direction you had in mind, not throw a little paddy.
