All the drug bullshit. Not trying to start a drug thread, but this deffenitly pertains to this topic.

I still remember my dad telling me to never smoke weed, when I was like 10. Kinda funny since both my parents smoked at my age all the way through college.


I know there are others that I remember hearing, but I just can't get it out. I hate the tip of the tongue thing... :/

Anyway, "respect your elders" and "respect authority" were the two I didn't hear much, but were prominent in anything I did. Some "elders" are terrible people, and most authority is illegitimate.

Another one that popped up a lot was on the first day of school every year: "Respect X, Y, Z (was usually "Respect the teacher"). It was plastered on every syllabus given. By the end of the year I had figured that most of my teachers should to quit their jobs, not be given my respect.

Don't talk to strangers. Something that is mildly useful for children under the age of 6, probably scared half a generation of people into not making new friends.

Just the general ethics of certain actions being intrinsically bad, for instance, "lying is bad". The first time that you have to lie for a perceived greater good is quite a mind-fuck.

That's not to say that certain drugs aren't bad, but that tobacco and in some cases alchohol are among them.

The only untrue thing I can recall my parents telling me, was that it was the tooth-fairy giving me money for my baby teeth.

Here's a few:

- Justice is blind

• And the whole thing about mine being a country founded by brave men with sound principles who could do no wrong; where everyone is 100% free and equal. Not to mention the whole Columbus and Thanksgiving nonsense...

Well, they certainly do if sucking up and kissing ass is cheating. The true secret to success is throw away any sense of pride or dignity. They won't help you.

And anyways, I think that anything promised in return for upholding morals is bullshit. Not only religious things, but things like "they'll get you far in life" or "they make you a good person".

my mom always told me, "good things come to those who wait." and I believed her, and still do. but unfortunately, I'm still just as reluctant to wait.

I'm also pretty sure she told me that eating/drinking anything sweet before bed would give me nightmares...I always thought she was just saying that because she didn't want me to have them. I asked her about it not too long ago and I think she denied saying it o_o

You shouldn't be concerned about the opposite gender until you're older.

I never, ever, EVER lose my appetite, so that saying never applied to me. I could eat a whole shitload of candy and cookies and such, and then still want a lot of dinner to eat.

Also, another reason that statement is completely bogus is that the healthy way to eat is to have snacks in between meals. Otherwise you're just starving yourself without reason.

The funny thing is, I've never lost my appetite from sweets, but I lose it from ADHD pills (the condition being falsely diagnosed, I might add) which my parents are willing to pay out the nose for.

Did your doctor say it was falsely diagnosed, or you? Because your parents shouldn't still be paying for it. Sometimes I lose my appetite from depression, I don't know how/if my medication changes my appetite.

There are some obvious ones like god, santa etc.

But there are some better ones like
"Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words can never hurt me.

You have to do your best in school, study hard, and get good grades to succeed."

I've thought about the sticks and stones thing before too. A few times actually. It's complete bullshit. Sticks and stones don't hurt at all, at least not for very long, unless you're a little bitch. Words hurt the most.

I don't think adults realise how confusing this is for kids, that's why I've made it my goal to never tell any of this shit to my kids, if I end up having kids that is.

I remember being hurt by something someone said once. And I thought, but but words aren't supposed to hurt are they? Coz my grandma and mum had told me that saying. It was really confusing tbh.

Of course some kids see through it. I remember thinking "but how will you meet new people?" But I have no doubt it had some psychological effect on me for all the years I did believe it. It takes me ages to trust people now.

The doctor never ran any test but instead went off the fact that I had ADHD in elementary school. And my parents put me back on it recently because I was "acting up in class", when really, I was acting like everyone else (better, on some counts) but my teacher was out to get me because I often found extremely correct flaws in her work and logic.

I told my dad how everyone in that class hates her, but he said "Oh, of course everyone hates her". And I'm not even kidding, every single one of them literally will admit, regardless of relevance to the conversation, that they hate her.

The whole "Everything will work out eventually" bullshit. I'd never share that mentality with my kids (if i have any.) Nothing works out just like that- you have to work hard and go through shit to get it to work for you. Plus, that whole love illusion where everyone will find their soulmate one day: Total lie ;/
