Cars DO suck. 38% fuel efficiency if you're lucky? Outrageous. And eventually, personal automobiles will go extinct...they'll have to. But, while transportation remains a necessity, smoking is a luxury. I don't like roads and oil wars anymore than the next guy, and there are better solutions that exist, some of which have been widely implemented in certain areas, but it is not feasible to end gasoline-powered cars as we know them. By contrast, smoking is an activity that can be cleaned up and removed from public environments, and done so quite easily and at minimal cost.

      SO...
a car is a form of transportation. transportation is nice. it could be implemented better.
tobacco is a plant. it does nice stuff. maybe stop putting garbage in it in a roll of paper.

oh my fucking gaaaah why are we operating at a 3rd grade level of common sense.
      QFT.

Mario - I was obviously talking about THINGS; tangible objects. Not actions.

Oh and you just posted another post as I was replying lol
You are sort of correct. But most people driving cars could be taking public transport. Which still creates pollution btw, but just not as much.

And some people do have the need to smoke. Their life would be a lot more stressful without it. As I think I said before, some people have what you call an addictive personality. Which is a misnomer really, but what it means is that they need some sort of vice. The vice is usually something that gives the brain a dopamine boost. Cigarettes, Opiates, possibly Cannabis, MDMA, Meth, Gambling, Fighting, Driving really fast, Hunting etc.

So yes of course people could swap a dirty habit of cigarettes for something else which fills this desire. But in this modern lifestyle that's a hard thing to do. It's so easy to just pick up a smoke.

Also 70% of people with schizophrenia smoke. It actually helps them. Do you want to take it away from them too?

Anyway, I knew this thread would get off-topic. It was sposed to be about if you think this FSC law is bullshit or not. Not about whether people should smoke. Of course that's bound to happen, but do you guys think this is a stupid law or not?

Why make something more harmful than it already is?

In regards to the law itself, it's a load of bollocks. If you want to give cigarettes a better name, take out all the chemicals and shit until you're left with tobacco leaf and salt peter.

The law cares too much about tax income from ciggies; I bet they don't see the number of cancer incidents at the hosipatls.

      Smoking is SUICIDE*!

      Really? What is it?

I know there's some thing called White Ox or something which I've heard is pretty much straight tobacco but not really sure.

i'm not sure exactly what is around today, but before first contact in the americas there were a few types of tobacco of a higher quality - the natives sure didn't have any problems with it until they were put on reservations and started smoking what the average american smokes.

Yeah I heard they used to smoke it for spiritual reasons. I do remember my first cigarette and I laid down in the grass which was really long and soft and I just was buzzing with energy. But completely relaxed. I am trying at the moment to cut down heaps and only smoke one every now and again to get that feeling back.

Also I googled unadulterated cigarettes and apparently the best one is Natural American Spirit tobacco. They gives 10% of profits to the native americans too I think their website says.

tommo I'm sorry if I offended you...I just loathe cigarettes/smoke and all the problems they cause for people and the world in general

I understand what it means to have an addictive personality, but still, there are a lot healthier things to get addicted to that don't involve drugs or carcinogens.

How does smoking help people with schizophrenia?

there are many ways to relieve stress. Most are much much cheaper and healthier than smoking.

Um, I'm not 100% sure. But there's a tonne of studies showing it.
      I'll get some links....

Good one that's easy to read.

Oh and you didn't offend me. I was just more dumbfounded that you of all people would say it should be illegal.
