I haven't actually needed to take pills since posting, don't really have any dummy pills to test but I think the ice cream one will be the best for me. Ice cream is so easy to swallow, and I am unafraid of choking as mentally I realize it'll just melt. If I shove a pill inside I think it'll do me fine.

Totally off-topic but... I chew ice cream Even the plain stuff. I mean, I don't chew it like I would a steak, lol, but I don't immediately swallow it either. Can't. So that "trick" would end up gross if I tried it

Are you a popsicle biter? That drives me nuts lol.

Do you have to swallow it whole? Can't you mash it up into a powder and just eat it with some ice creme? That's how parents often get little kids to take pills, I'm sure it will work you you as well.

As for ice cream, if it's not plain vanilla or chocolate, I will chew it and practically melt the stuff before it's swallowed. The ice cream trick actually sounds good, given I have some plain flavors lying around.

No, the pill I was taking specifically stated to not crush it.

Nah, but seriously, though, practice gulping down water without a pill in your mouth. DO NOT SIP. Put enough water in your mouth to where the pill will float in your mouth, and not rest on your tongue. The trick is to use enough water to where you hardly even notice the pill going down (if at all). Once your mouth is full, throw your head back just gulp that shit down like you're trying to swallow a cue ball. Lol.

Anyways, whenever I try to swallow a big amount of water, I still feel the pill hit the back of my tongue. Then I end up pressing it against the roof of my mouth involuntarily...

When I was younger and couldn't swallow pills for shit, I used to put the pill (fairly small) in a spoonful of applesauce and just gulp that down quick.

With water, the trick is to get a lot quick. All there really is to do is get a big gulp and pound it down quick. Once you get it a couple times it gets a lot easier. As if your gag reflex is realizing it's ok to swallow pills

I agree it's a mental thing. I think I had the same problem when I was little. After taking adderall for 3 years or so I can now swallow pills easily without any drink. I don't know what would help, but 'put it in your mouth and swallow' is stupid advice. If I remember correctly, when I couldn't swallow pills, I would swallow but my tongue would hold back the pill or something seemingly on its own.

Try distracting yourself with TV. I've had to use this technique in the past when swallowing massive amounts of pills at once.

1. Find something interesting (or mildly amusing) on TV
2. Hold the pill in your hand, but try to push the thought of swallowing it out of your mind (just let your mind be distracted by the tv)
3. After a minute or so, just sort of nonchalantly toss the pill to the back of your throat, take a gulp of water, tilt your head back and swallow

It'll be gone and you'll be left appreciating how simple that was. Trust me, the more you try to...uh...disguise it by putting it in ice cream, other food, or anything that draws attention to the fact that you are still going to have to swallow something is bad. Just thinking about it will make your throat tense up and it becomes difficult to swallow anything. Instead you want to draw attention away from the process by distracting your mind. The more spontaneous you are and the more you change things up to further distract yourself the better. Changing the channel helps because your mind is like, "ooo now I wonder what's gonna be on the next channel". Turn the volume up too.

This whole thread seems rather excessive for something so trivial, but still it's fun to read everyone's pill swallowing strategies.

It's the easiest way. And I've eaten some nasty pills.
Some do burn your throat to no end though, like some antibiotics and anti-depressants. Never chew them.

I usually grind them up with a mortar and pestle and mix it with juice which tastes like drinking sick and dirt, but yeah, the recent pill couldn't be ground.

Why do you eat this many pills? I think the last time I took a pill was like 6 years ago.

If you're taking prescription pills in the future, ask the doctor to make sure your pills are "scored". That way you can break them in half, and still get an even concentration without ruining the distribution amount.
