      Help me convince him!!

My brother doesn't believe in Sleep Paralysis. He says it aint real.
I tried explaining when we dream our body is completely paralysed and that we can be 'awake' while being in Sleep Paralyis. But he just doesn't believe it lol. He also says there are no different sleep stages such as REM where we dream the most. He told me this: 'Why do you believe everything that has been posted on the internet, every random person can put stuff like that on the internet'. I told him Lucid Dreaming has been scientifically proven. But he won't believe me. Can anyone help me convince him Lucid dreaming, Sleep paralysis, different sleep stages do exist?

I got some links that's probably gonna be usefull, you would be suprised how many people don't beleve in lucid dreaming, sleep paralysis, sleep stages, and even beleve they only dream like once in a month... etc

Here is a great link about sleep stages: Stages of Sleep - The Five Stages of Sleep.

About SP it's quite simple, it's a completely normal process of the body. The goal, i beleve is to prevent u from acting out. And if something goes wrong, u would probably be sleepwalking. Here a little piece if information that i quickly searched up:

Sleep paralysis occurs as the patient is falling asleep or waking up. It is normal for the body to be paralysed during sleep as this prevents people acting out their dreams and putting themselves in danger. As the patient transitions between sleep and wake however, the body may remain paralysed whilst the mind awakens. This leads to the frightening sensation of not being able to move or speak despite trying to. The sensation is often accompanied by sensory hallucinations or vivid dreams.

And lucid dreaming is just being aware that ur dreaming. But i beleve at the homepage of this site, they have information about everything to do with lucid dreaming. And it has been scientifically proven + the countless of people who have had this experience.

All successful people men and women are big dreamers. They imagine what their future could be, ideal in every respect, and then they work every day toward their distant vision, that goal or purpose.

It's best to have failure happen early in life. It wakes up the Phoenix bird in you so you rise from the ashes.

      Hi Crashy.

You could try explaining on of the main reasons for sleep paralysis is to stop you acting out the dream in real life. However rarely sometimes you can actually 'sleepwalk'.
Try using the analogy of a cat. You know the animal is 'dreaming' because you can see their whiskers or feet twitching. If a cat wasn't in an SP type state it would be running about chasing something probably - acting out the dream.

The only way really is for your brother is to experience it. You could try and make a start (if you haven't already?) by asking him if he has ever had a dream he has 'changed', etc. rather than use the word 'lucid' dreaming as this may be a term that he doesn't fully understand, or want to (or even care to) understand. This might appeal to the want or desire part of his nature.

Try not to use CGI, or film explanations that relate to LD like The Matrix, Inception, etc. as these are hard to relate to, and are far-fetched. This may alienate him further.

I know these inspire a lot of people to start, but your brother might not be one of them.

Alot of the times the biggest barrier is the person simply states that "I cannot remember any dreams from last night!"

If your brother is one of those people then try to get him to write a dream down or two first thing. Hopefully then this might fester an interest in creating a dream journal and dreaming in general.

      Regards.

If he is stubborn enough to not believe in scientifically proven info, then he will remain uninformed about these things...

Really, i can't say much more than that.
I can understand it when someone says "i don't believe this because it's not proven" when talking about stuff like OBE/AP or anything similar, but Lucid Dreaming is proven, just like the different sleep cycles and SP. If he doesn't believe information like that, well... i don't know what would help then.

To me it seems like he only acts this stubborn because he has an image of these things set up in his mind and he doesn't want to accept that he might be wrong.
      I realize that i'm dreaming.
      I realize that i'm dreaming.
      I realize that i'm dreaming.

      lol

How old is your brother? That is just silly. And sleep paralysis is something that occurs naturally for everyone, unless you have sleepwalking disorders or something. It is proven that our body paralyzes us so that we don't act out our dreams. That simple. It's a natural bodily response to sleep.

I know someone already mentioned this. I just can't believe people will reject something scientifically proven. It's like breathing. You don't have to convince him of lucid dreaming, not everyone has had an experience with becoming aware in that process, so he's just never experienced SP while awake. All this talk of lucid dreaming might just make him become lucid some night and he'll come straight to you. lol

But yes, there are tons of resources to look into. If he's so hard on the internet, take that fool to the library.

Your brother is probably just being stubborn..xD. Anyway just look up scientific evidence and show it to him. Maybe search a video on YouTube about it? If I remember right there is a Discovery Channel video about sleep paralysis. If he doesn't believe the Internet try to find a book on it :p
