      Arrow Smoking and Dreaming

i was just wondering if anyone else regularly smokes weed here and doesnt have a problem recalling their dreams / going lucid

im pretty new to lucid dreaming but ive had 2 so far and i found it okay to smoke however much during the day but just not do it before you sleep so you'll remember dreams. smoking before sleep makes the dreams seem like chopped-up pieces of a movie and is even harder to remember as i try to write it all down.

I've found that smoking really affects my ability to remember dreams for a few days. I just went about 2 weeks without smoking at all and in that time I could remember a ton of details from my dreams. Yesterday I smoked a pretty small bowl around mid afternoon and I could barely recall anything when I woke up today. Total bummer I wish it wasn't such a problem, but that's probably good incentive to not smoke a lot. I'm considering just using it rarely to induce REM rebound.

In one of stephen labergre books from memory he says weed and alchohol prohibit rem from memory definitely read it was bad for you in some book but personally yeah screws my recall up good if I quit always 10x more vivid and easier to remembe

Yup. I didnt smoke hours before i went to sleep and ended up having a ld the same night. It sucks that something so awesome is the cause of me not remembering my dreams lol

It's funny that my friends joke about weed giving you crazy dreams, for me, it puts them in a haze. REM rebound is amazing though, I think weed is worth it to induce that every once in a while. My first lucid I was high, interestingly enough. Do you guys ever dream of smoking and getting suuuper high during your dream? For me, this happens if I quit for a length of time. Or, it'll just happen spontaneously.

      Ex pot head here.
Although possible, our beloved friend Mary Jane strongly suppresses REM sleep.
In the past year, smoking 5-6x a day, daily, I couldn't begin to describe even a single dream I had, and repeatedly would tell my friends 'when I sleep it's just complete darkness'.
Maybe that was due to the amount I smoked, but regardless I've been clean for a week and 3 days, and have already experienced a LD and a OBE one night after the other.
I have smoked/drank in a dream before though, and the effects are almost identical to real life, with sometimes an added 'holy f**k i'm f**ked' feeling.
Whether or not you want to smoke, is completely your choice, but do keep in mind it is scientifically proven to lower your chances of retaining dreams, therefor decreasing the chances of lucid dreams.
      Happy smoking/dreaming !

Funny enough I had a non-lucid dream a few nights ago where I smoked a joint and I got so high that I was literally floating when I tried to walk

For the past several years I have gone through a smoking cycle where I smoke almost every day and then I'll quit for a couple months every 4-6 months. I haven't noticed it impact my dream recall or lucidity at all (compared to the months when I'm not smoking), maybe I'm just one of the lucky ones

I smoke a lot, very often during the night. (It's the only cure for insomnia I've found) In addition to dream recall going in the gutter, and the huge loss of REM sleep, interestingly I find that my dreams are presented in a kind of split-scene way. I see split scenes vividly and they meld into another one. This happens when I'm sober too obviously, but all my dreams take this nature when I'm smoking.

When I don't smoke for a few days, I have fantastically vivid and detailed dreams. REM rebound is amazing.

Have you guys wondered about the implications of losing so much REM sleep? (applies mostly to frequent smokers)

I agree with everyone in that cannabis kills rem sleep, I recommend quitting for some time and you will notice an explosion of REM sleep and dream recall and lucid potential.

Since i've stopped completely I have had amazing dream recall and vivid dreams and lots of rem sleep, almost too much rem sleep.
I would rather die on my feet then to live on my knees.

I find I actually have really vivid lucids after smoking or drinking, I suppose it's because it comes more naturally instead of me forcing myself into having one.

personally i am a chronic smoker, and it totallys fucks my recall and i continue to smoke cause of the habit i now have -_- im very regular and my recall is shot cause of it.
long term smoker too, been toking since i was 16 and i am now 33, i think people who say smoking doesnt effect there dreaming are honestly just looking for excuses to continuing doing there own thing, research says that thc prohibits rem and shortens the rem cycle, does this sound like a good thing for a person whos trying to become lucid? nope...there are other factors involved in this, such as. how long the people has been on the herb? let me tell you a few experiences i had...
i recently had 2 girlfriends one after the other, both about 6 weeks in duration, the first gf didnt want me smoking it so i gave it up, for that six weeks i was with her, before that i hardly recalled my dreams, in that six weeks i experienced lucid dreams, very short even foggy, like i was using muscles i havnt used in sometime, i had a dream i was walking past a window in a very creepy hallway, sunlight through the window made me lucid... but the light was so vague i struggled to keep it shining.
when i went to my second girlfriend, she too didnt want me toking, so another 6 weeks went by, and my dreams took on a whole new energy of there own, i easily became lucid just cause of the sheer vividness of the dreams! can check my dream journal for one of those lucid dreams i had
ill stop here and say, weed fucks your recall wherever you believe that or not, long term use will fuck your recall trust me, im not gonna blame the herb entirely cause there choices involved in everything we do i now know what they mean by you cant have your cake and eat it too
      peace

I am having trouble believing that smoking in general causes one to not have lucid dreams. I have not experienced this phenomena that you all describe and I am confused as to why that is. Do people that experience this problem tend to smoke before bed? That is one thing that I never do because I can't sleep when high unless I'm exhausted. How much weed do you have to smoke to experience REM loss?

Also, has anybody actually read this study that is being alluded to when they reference Feinberg et al. (1975). Most of the articles that reference this study don't give details such as the method of the study or the extent to which they found THC affects REM sleep.

I have personally experienced that going to bed later in the night and waking up later has a much greater, detrimental affect on my dreaming (how long I stay asleep in REM dreams, how often I become lucid, the degree of lucidity) than smoking weed ever has.

I find weed to be a totally devistating factor on LDing. I have experience with LDing either way, although I have not smoked in a very long time. You can LD after smoking, but it is a huge handicap. It could be the differance between a rare LD of average quailty (stoned daily) to vivid dreams and a few LDs every week (sober daily).
Sorry to bum out any users, but if LDing is the goal, weed is a problem. Say your goal is target shooting, then give yourself the handicap of closing one eye and having a friend flash a lazer pointer in your open eye. Thatis how much weed handicaps LDing. Sure, you will likely hit the target some times, but it is clearly not helping.

I've taken acid in dreams. I've never taken acid in reality. It was great in my dreams, though.

And yes, weed has been horrible for having vivid dreams, or remembering my dreams when I have them.

      However, REDLINE PEOPLE.
I drank a bottle of Redline before bed, and had the craziest dreams.
