      Another "dying" dream

Anyone else have dreams of dying, or the afterlife, where after "dying" you end up in another place and get assigned things to do, or are about to embark on another journey? This theme is apparently happening with me a lot, and am wondering if anyone else has this too.

      Here's the ream I had:

Last nite I had this weird dream that I technically died in, because the Earth was destroyed. I saw myself in third person "falling" out into space from the earth very fast, then this HUGE young women in space (like a giant, except about 10 times the size of our planet, and wearing normal clothes) smacked me even further away from the planet. Then she proceeded to kick? (or hit, i can't remember) the Earth, and it sort of broke in half and disintegrated. Then I appear in this building with light blue-ish walls and some long windows, and I see one of my friends who goes to school with me. There were also a bunch of other students my age there. I'm confused, and I start to ask him what just happened, then I start to rationalize that we all just died because the Earth was wiped out by that huge giant. I start to explain that it cannot be life, and it can't be a dream, but that it wasn't the full blown afterlife either. Sort of a place in between things, and that we were there for some reason or for specific tasks or missions.

I once had a dream where I just died and I was floating in a dark abyss (could have been the state between waking and sleeping, not sure). This period was when I was Catholic, mind you, so I started to gain a feeling that I had to go somewhere and receive my next instructions from an angel. When I mean "feel", I mean it didn't just pop up in my head. Something was literally attracting me towards a light and the image of an angel popped up in my head. Of course, I woke up after getting too excited/nervous. I'm atheist now though and that dream occured about 5-8 years ago, give or take. I have never had another dream like that again. Now these days when I die I either float out of my body or I reconstruct my body from scratch (creating new tissues, fixing vision, getting my motor functions back, rebuilding bones, et cetera). Your beliefs affect the content of your dreams (to some extent. Depending on how much emphasis you place on them), so maybe you believe there's this type of place where people await orders from a higher being? Honestly depends on how you interpret it. Anyways, I digress. I might have dreams in the future about the theme you are talking about; I used to believe in OBE's, so this will probably come up for me.

I can definitely relate to the feeling of having missions to accomplish after death in a dream.

One dream back in high school I dreamt that I was walking home from school then got randomly shot in the spine from the side on, near instant death. Didn't hurt as much as expected, but then I lack the memory of pain that intense therefore my brain probably couldn't simulate it. Then I was floating.

Then, while nobody could see me at first (as a ghost I imagine), my friends started to be able to see me and communicate. Then, I had to complete a task with them, in order for me to be revived back to life - find the Wizard of Oz.

Then I turned into Dorothy and started skipping down the road with them, linked arm and singing "We're off to see the wizard...", except not down a yellow-brick-road in a fantasy setting, but instead down a grey pavement with cars going by and lots of grey buildings.

Thats interesting, that would be some task if you're having people resurrect you. Even though I have different kinds of dreams, I always find it very fascinating what my dreams do whenever I die in them and end up in another place afterward. I guess they are more surreal to me than other dreams, because of the implications of being in death.

Anyway, thanks for sharing that, again I just find it interesting and humorous (after waking up) that you would have tasks to do immediately after "dying".

I one dream in which I was already dead. I don't know if I died in the dream prior to that point, or if it just began at that point. It was a little funny though, there were two of those automatic walkway (belt driven things). I'm talking about those things you step on in the airport and it moves you forward, something like that. There was one belt that moved forward, a gap, and then another belt leading to the gap on the other side. In the gap it appeared to be some sort of "Hell." In order to get to heaven, you need to jump across the gap. Now I know that seems funny and ridiculous. Perhaps the only logical sense I can make from that is maybe you need to purge your sins before dying or else you won't be able to make that jump? Just a though, I guess.

One week I had lots of dreams about dying! Most were about getting to heaven. One time I had to play a game and win to get to heaven. Mabye being good in life makes the game easier to win…?

Wow, that's really different from what usually happens to me if I die in a dream.
If I die, I'm sometimes being carried around in a transparent coffin, and paralyzed, or I'm in a void where I can't see or touch anything. Of course, these are often after nightmares. I've never had a dream where I died and it was a good thing.
We all live in a kind of continuous dream. When we wake, it is because something,
some event, some pinprick even, disturbs the edges of what we have taken as reality.
