Cool! Oh my gosh is this what he was talkinga bout? How there are meny of us being individual and we all look the same? I think I get it. But I agree about that part. I notice in high school eveyone says they are all individual and all but they all look and act the same, some more trashy than others... I mean everyone shops in the same places and has the same hairstyle and shoes... I deffinitely agree. But I don't look like everyone else. I mean some of my clothes may be similar but for the most part, no. Ehh... This is something you really have to look closely at.

I dont care what other people think. Thats why my clothes are either based on my interests (I have a nintendo shirt and two marvel shirts) or just plain or what I think looks good if I am going to dress up. Dress up=shirt with a collar.

But are we weird for dreaming? Are we weird for being interested in something that everyone experiences? Is the fact that we think about a natural process and even have some degree of control over it make us weird? Was Isaac Newton weird? Everyone experienced gravity but he was one of the first actually interested in it. Or what about Steve Wozniak and Steve Jobs? they were interested in computers and they created the basis for most operating systems used on computers today.

Again, what do you define as weird and what do you define as normal? You might as well ask if everyone is weird except for us since we are the only ones who do this. Or you may ask if forein people are weird since they arent like americans...

Haha foreign people are cool. I have a few foreign exchange students in my classes. They both know german as well as english and there own language. The czech girl (who i also eat lunch with everyday) was talking about spiders and snakes here in texas. She says that there are way bigger spiders here and some are poisonus and there arent poisonus snakes or spiders where shes from. She is completely normal but she hasnt experienced the same things as we have.

yes. we are wierd. you never hear people OUTSIDE the internet talking about lucid dreaming. at least i dont. it almost never comes up in regular conversation. so i'd say yeah i guess we are wierd. but honestly... i wouldn't have it any other way.

I am foreign and loving it lol! I have tasted both worlds. I have lived in my homecountry for about five years and lived in america for about ten years.

I think I'd rather be weird then normal, though I don't really talk about lucid dreaming or anything but I always ask weird questions like did ants ever gotten all over you or things like that.

Raetin, I completely agree. I think being "normal" is just boring and stupid. The individuals and the unique people are considered WEIRD by their society. Take Tolstoy, for example. He was a wealthy landowner with people working for him, yet instead of living in a mansion and dressing for the part, he walked barefoot and begged for food. We remember him. Do we remember other Russian aristocracy? NO

It's great over there. I cannot describ e how it's diffenrent, it would take too long. I like bo5th worlds, but they are pretty different

I don't think we're weird at all, although my sister thinks lucid dreaming is crazy and doesn't even like me talking about it around her. I personally was trying to get over an addiction to pain medicine and started to try out lucid dreaming again and has made my life so much easier. Just practicing and thinking about lucid dreaming has got my past problem out of my mind and on a better path. so in no way do I consider it weird. i consider it awsome.

I know I'm definitely not normal, but I'm not the weirdest either. I think its awesome to have an interest in lucid dreaming and the like, because its opening up our minds to things outside the box and getting creative. Sure we're not "normal" in the sense that we're not conforming with the rest of society with not believing in the possibility of conscious control of dreams, but that's ok with me lol. I actually havn't talked about lucid dreaming with anyone in a long time... I should do that. But seriously, you wouldn't be on this site unless you were somehow different in your interests or views than everybody else's. Then again, these are just words and the connotations you associate with them. Weird to me is (usually) a good thing, but that may just be because my interests are varied and because I've got a different perception of this world (like most on this forum) than "normal" people.

One person with a differing perception is the only way in which humans as a race advance. Are we weird? Or will we be considered the forefathers of an entire field of psychology?

exactly whaat i'm saying- wewird leads to good. you stand out from the crowd and are remembered for discovering something new. Do we remember any lawyer or any streetcleaner? NO. Do we remeber einstein, who was the weirdest of his day? YES. Because he was weird and separated from the flow

Stop considering yourselves weird. I mean unless lucid dreaming controls 100% of your life, you are just a regular person. Really, just a regular person. Even the best LDer has a life. We are simply the lucky bunch of 1% of the population that happened to stumble on it. Are we pionneers? Certainly. Creepy, reject non-social freaks? Absolutely not.
All you people keep saying that you dont care what others think about you. Good for you. Personnaly, I am the exact opposite. I couldnt care more about what people think of me, and I feel extremely uncomfortable keeping only the 5 same friends. I always feel like I should be friends with everyone, but thats a matter of opinions. Dreaming has nothing to do with your person.

I used to worry about what other people thought of me, but now I don't care so much.I stick with the people i like and ignore the people i don't like. Some people wonder what goes on in my head, but it's just because I can be quite random sometimes.

I don't discuss LDing with anyone, not even my closest friends. I like keeping it as a part of me.

I'm 15, and a freshman. I just started dating this amazingly hot sophomore. Feelsgoodman. and i'm certainly not going to tell her. I keep myself apart from the popular crowd by being a stoner, even though they attempt to suck me in all the time. I talk to my girl about meditation and other things, but i don't think she'd be interested in LDing. I've told a few of my friends, and they think its cool. I would say, in the depths of their private minds, everyone is weird. You wouldn't have a discussion with your teachers about what you thought about laying in bed last night would you? My mom knows, and i despise when she teases me about it. But some things are just sort of private, not really open to discuss with everyone.

I dont think were weird. Its a hobby. And probably one of the most rewarding hobbies you can have. If you like to draw does that make you weird? If you enjoy it than do it. If not than why are you here? lol

Good discussion. I'm of the opinion that IF you want to be yourself....and IF you really don't care what people think, then all the "stuff" should not matter. The real challenge here is....(wait for it...this is important)...

Can you be "popular" or liked if you do NOT follow all the conventions of your school or whoever your peers are? Example....if you wore jeans and a T shirt no piercings, no tattoos, no IPHONE, none of that crap.....the REAL challenge is to have people like you whether you use the "tools" or not. What bigger challenge is there than to be popular or "cool" in spite of the fact that you don't adhere to all the trappings of it like ....cool phone, texting, the right clothes, the right car, the right "circle of friends" and the right "look" on your face?

That is the real challenge. So I would guess that if you REALLY do not care what other people think, then you would just be yourself...and have the YOURSELF not involved in trendy stuff, or fashion, but rather based on your character...and your deeds....and the way you treat other people. I've never once in my life met anyone who was "popular" because they wore the right jeans...or had a cool hair style. Those things are just glitter on the surface, and in the long run they won't fool anyone for long.

I was talking to my friend about lucid dreaming in physics today and he said that he often loses lucidity half way through a dream so i told him to try spinning and just reminding himself that he is dreaming. I turned a little bit and the kids behind me asked what I was talking about. I just said lucid dreaming and was about to turn around when they asked what that was. I told them its where you know you are dreaming and I turned around to continue my conversation. I hear them behind me talking about what they would do if they ever realized that they were dreaming one of them said he would either rob a bank or shoot himself to see what would happen. A few seconds after that from behind me and a little to the side I hear "ITS SO AMAZING IT FEELS CRAZY" I just know hes talking about LDing I turn around and said "You actually know what it is?" He said that he is really interested in that kinda stuff and that he has been lucid many times. He told me that he tried flying once and he was able to do it but that it didnt feel very real for him. Later, in the hall, I asked him if he did reality checks and his friend that was walking beside him said "No, I just accept that it is always a dream and if something changes I know it is"

I realized today that there are 4 other people in my school that I know of that knew about LDs before I talked to them about it.

So because I was talking about something "weird" I realized that it is more common than i thought. In fact the friend I was talking to about it at the begining of class has had two LDs in the past 2 weeks and i havent had one in over 4 months now.

This especially!! I have noticed how everyone in the halls as a look of a freakin dead cow or somethin on thier faces. Emotionless. I am starting to think it's cool to look like an idiot.

By the way, I do wear the right jeans and do some trendy stuff. However, I wait with much excitement for people to see the true me, the quirky one. the reason for excitement is that then i see who are my real friends and who arent- the ones who stick with the weird kid or the ones who leave.
