      I swear..

I saw this somewhere... There was an argument, that dreams are the way your brain sorts out information throughout the day.. And interfering with it is bad.. Where is the proof that debunks this? Can someone also link me to a big LD FAQ? It's for a friend that's interested and I want to help him out, thanks..

Rather than asking where is the proof to debunk it, ask to see the proof that shows that claim to be true. If you want evidence to the contrary, you need only take a look at the thousands of successful lucid dreamers leading normal, happy, healthy lives.

I've read somewhere that dreams are the way your brain gets rid of useless information... if that's the case I'm perfectly okay living during the day in useful information, and reveling in useless insanity at night.

And yeah listen to the voice of reason. We're all people living happy and healthy lives.

There isn't any point in arguing this kind of thing. No one really knows the true purpose of dreaming. The theory you mentioned is just that, a theory. Nothing more.
Dreams are basically a combination of both unconscious and conscious thoughts and emotions that are woven together and manifested into an reality that you can explore and interact with.

It's not like dreams are programed during the day and then played out when you go to sleep, and you are then messing with that program. Any dream, Lucid or not, is subject to change at any moment of the dream, at the whim of any changing thoughts, emotions, and decisions you make during that dream. So, if you see what I'm getting at...

Also what about those naturals out there? That would mean they're automatically born with some mental illness. Or the people who "used to LD all the time as a kid". I'm sure those people didn't just grow out of some mental issues, and become normal.

Some people have been LDing for a long, long time. I don't believe they have any sort of mental illness or problems from it.

We all live in a kind of continuous dream. When we wake, it is because something,
some event, some pinprick even, disturbs the edges of what we have taken as reality.

"What about the people who ld naturally?" - (I forget)

Exactly. It's a completely normal phenomenom(epic spelling fail?).

There is nothing wrong with lucid dreaming. The person who said that is probably mad because they can't lucid dream. I heard dreaming is just your mind testing itself to make sure everything is okay. It doesn't matter anyway, because dreams are just there and it's not like they are THAT important, because most people do not remember them, anyway.

I heard dreams are The Man's attempts at brainwashing you into thinking Pepsi tastes better than Coke. Prove me wrong.

Discovery did a segment on it. They said nobody can know why we dream, then they said "some people claim" dreams exist to sort memories from the day, then they go ahead and purport that as fact for the rest of the segment. I'll see if I can find a video online.

      Natural = Perfect???

When I hear discussions like this I imagine cavemen arguing about if controlling their bowel movements was healthy. The "natural" Caveman says "its a natural function and interfering with that has do be bad." He could make a good argument of it about how healthy it must be and how he gets to go whenever he wants. I for one am glad he lost that argument. Giving ourselves control over our natural functions is human and part of a disciplined, civilized, adult mind.
Also what about controlling your emotions, your inclinations (like to punch someone), sexual arousal, and others? These are all completely natural. I think there is some kind of belief that everything natural is perfect, and you shouldn't mess with perfection. But if you did let a lot of your natural things go unchecked you'd be either in a prison or a mental institute. Natural is not perfect, far from it and it is our duty in growing up to constrain our minds to benefit our lives. LDing has been a huge benefit for my life and I see it has greatly affected the lives of many others.

Don't be a caveman, let your fears go, not your bowels!
(*No disrespect meant to any real cavemen)

I doubt it interferes, but even if it does, it hardly matters. I'm pretty sure most lucid dreamers aren't lucid during most of their dreams, so there's plenty of time for any subconscious information sorting that for whatever reason requires nonlucidity.
