Lightbulb I'm really ready to make the commitment, anyone else?

I've known about lucid dreaming for years, and I've always known it was perfect for me. Having had a great dream recall pretty much all of my life as well as being an avid daydreamer, lucid dreaming seemed almost a must.

Yet, over the years, I've had only a few lucids to speak of, and even fewer real lucids worth mentioning.

I have decided that enough is enough. I'm sick of sitting around waiting for a lucid dream to interrupt the monotony of daily life. I'm sick of sitting around wishing for a quick-fix to lucid dreaming. It's not going to, and there isn't.

No. I want to work at it, I mean really work at it, and I want to master it. I'm sick of being lazy about something that can give me endless nights of literally doing anything I could possibly dream of. I'm sick of denying myself the right to a world where anything is possible. Over the years, if I had really put an effort towards it, I know I could be great now. And while I can't get those years back, I can start here and now, and develop a future with lucid dreaming.

I'm ready to be fully dedicated, despite the stresses of school. I'm ready to stop making excuses, and start going after my dreams.... quite literally.

Has anyone else come to this conclusion lately, anyone else who may want to share their experiences?

Great! I love the enthusiasm! It's really time to show some initiative. No one can do this for me, I have to do this for me, but it's nice to know that there are others who have realized this recently. Who cares that it only took me a couple of years? ;]

I made the same commitment just last week. A few years ago, I was very intently trying to master lucid dreaming, but I quickly became distracted by other things and became too busy to continue. Not this time!

I did this almost two years ago, and I renew the commitment fairly regularly. Since then, lucid dreaming has become something a bit more than just a hobby for me. I've gotten better at it, but I still need a lot of improvement.

So good luck! I hope you see positive results.

to me, you're committed when you've done it, hopefully you'll stick with it. The biggest problem is most people give up before real success happens.

When I made the commitment and began practicing constant awareness (the only real way to "master" LDs, imo), I only managed to maintain it for a week. Your post has inspired me to take it up again. Let's see if I can get to a month this time. XP

How does one go about practicing constant awareness? Wouldn't it get to be exhausting?

It is exhausting to do with the minimum amount of energy that we all are operating on at this moment. And thoughts take energy, and they cast shadows on awareness.
What you do is increase your personal energy, by deep breathing. Everyone these days are underbreathers. If we breathe correctly, then awareness is effortless and life becomes lucid.

Haha, sure! I'm interested in hearing if it works or not. I'm going a little old-school and trying peanut butter and banana before bed, and drinking lots of water. Hopefully, this will help with a WILD.
..And I FULLY intend on dueling with He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named. =]

I agree, it's time to get serious. There will always be 'distractions' if we let them be distracting.

Thanks! That's exactly what I want it to be for me too- More than just a hobby.

That's very true, I think my short LDs were what discouraged me initially.. Not this time.

I'm glad it inspired you. I've been trying to practice awareness. I have a habit of slipping into daydreams, which I know can be kind of bad for LDing.

That video and the concept is interesting. I've heard for awhile that we are mostly underbreathers, and that deep breathing can help improve on health. It makes sense that it could also help LDing.

I made this commitment a few months ago. I was doing really well having them at least every other day. But this week I started a new job and have only had 2 piece of crap lucids .Hopefully when I get used to this job things will get back to normal. I also just started keeping a DJ, hopefully that will help me take it to the next level.

I'm thinking that it would go back to normal, if you're used to having them every other day. I would think that you would eventually adjust to the new environment and sleep patterns and get back on track, but the DJ is probably a good idea until you're at least settled.

That was quite encouraging. Not that I lost motivation or anything, since I just recently started lucid dreaming at all
But don't let this stress you out!

I think I made this commitment the same day I started. Don't know if it's bad, but I really have never been that interested in anything else in my life. Probably, because it does gather all things - possible and impossible. And I'm not addicted. It's not like anyone can take it away from me

Ahah, I'm so with you guys on this one X)
HP was actually the reason why I came across LDing at all. I was rereading it before Christmas and had this "genius idea" to set up my dream - get my Hogwarts letter and go wandering around the castle. That was all I needed, nothing more. Googled dream control -> found out about dream incubation -> was shocked to know about lucid dreaming. Seriously, Rowling, I love you.

Hehe, MischiefManaged.. would've never guessed that you're a HP fan ;]. Rowling really created a world to explore, which is why her universe would be a good place to start. Harry Potter really is magical.

I thought I had made the commitment the day I learned of lucid dreaming, too. But I never really went after it 'full-force'. I always made excuses, and kind of wanted lucid dreaming to just happen for me.
I don't think it's necessarily a bad thing that you're so into lucid dreaming. Maybe I'm just biased, but I've always been a dreamer in every sense of the world, and a lucid dream is 'naturally' the next step. So to me, it sounds normal to want to do this.

I've already been quite committed for a week or two now. In fact, I'm awake right now because I'm doing a WBTB.

Best of luck, and lucidity for all.

Yeah, it's a little too obvious, isn't it? X) Agreed. And I'm so happy to have this opportunity. In fact I built up Hogwarts right in my first lucid

I actually really hope, that I will be able to give up this daydreaming habit as soon as I start getting more or less consistent LDs Sometimes it gets annoying.

Well now I'm certainly going full-force after it! Especially since I ended dry spell today. It happened exactly after I decided to leave lucid dreaming thoughts for just one night and get fine, calm sleep. I didn't even write date and time in the DJ, didn't even put it near the bed - and that's something I never forget to do

Good luck people. I'm sending waves of my determination to all of you
