How long do you stay up for? I can't fall back if I stay for anything longer than 10mins, so for me WBTB isn't even getting out of bed most of the times, and only lasts like 1min or so.

Hukif has posted some good advice - don't stay up too long. But then again, you might not want to just get out of bed and fall asleep again. A good rule of thumb to follow is staying up until you feel fairly awake, but not too awake. Don't use the computer or look at any bright lights for too long, because that can wake you up too much. If you have school or other commitments and don't want to lose a lot of sleep, you can always get up for just a few minutes but do some math problems or other activities that require logic - analyze some sentences from a book and see if they make sense... Things like that.

You'll have to experiment to see what works best for you.
We all live in a kind of continuous dream. When we wake, it is because something,
some event, some pinprick even, disturbs the edges of what we have taken as reality.

well as an example today i woke up and wrote down my dreams which took a couple of minutes. maybe 5-10 minutes. then i went to the fridge and ate a lil something, let the dogs out and chilled in the backyard a bit.perhaps i was awake for something like 30 minutes in total. after that i went to bed but i got nowhere near deep sleep

Yeah, you were probably awake for too long. Doing too many productive things can definitely wake you up to the point where it's difficult to fall back asleep. I also wouldn't recommend eating (only drinking) during a WBTB; from my experience, my body seems to want to stay awake after that because it's digesting (as wierd as that may seem!).

I get up almost every morning around 2-4 AM. I get up and make some poptarts with a glass of milk (put them in the toaster for like two min. and go release some bladder) then I eat them and go back to bed... maybe up about 7 min in all, I try wbtb and I have almost gotten something, when I start to dream I lose it...
P.S. is it like a WILD? just waking up after sleep, for the right conditions?
