      Suggestions

Hello all, this is my first time posting on these forums but i have over the past couple days been browsing these forums so I'm not a complete noob. I have also had 2 lucid dreams, not the best experiences though. My first one was when i was really young and i realized i was dreaming when i was getting chased by a green invincible blob thing. Although i knew i was dreaming i didn't realize that it couldn't hurt me so i still ran away trying to get out of the dream, which i did by going cross eyed (lol). the second time was about 5 weeks back when i tried to lucid dream and the first night i did but i was only lucid for about 5 seconds before something distracted me and i forgot it was a dream.
Sorry about the wall of text but the reason why I'm writing this is because I've begin to try to have lucid dreams again (i had forgot since the second time i lucid dreamed) for about a week now and i haven't gotten anything and i was wondering like most people on these forums if I'm doing anything wrong, or if there's anything i could be doing better. I would consider my dream recall pretty good. I can remember about 2-4 dreams a night and i think i have found a dream sign which is water. It comes up in at least 1 of my dreams a night so I've been doing reality checks whenever i see water in an attempt for it to pass on into my dreams. so if I'm missing anything or if anyone can give any suggestions it would be most appreciated. sorry for making you read so much..

Welcome to the forums. What reality check(s) do you use? How often do you RC? How much do you sleep? How aware are you throughout the day?

Try to reality check frequently and question your surroundings. It sounds like you are getting enough sleep, just try to sleep 8 hours or more. Do you often question reality during the day? Questioning reality will lead to questioning your dreams.

      Good luck.

i usually do the plug your nose and try to breath reality check and also count how many fingers i have. I use to look in the mirror a lot but i had a dream a few days ago where i looked in the mirror and i looked completely normal and i never became lucid. i was pretty pissed when i woke up. lol. I do the reality checks when i remember to mostly and whenever i see water because it is in my dreams A LOT. atleast 1 dream a night.

Doing the reality check isn't the most important thing. You actually have to question if you are dreaming. A reality check is really used to confirm if your dreaming or not.

What you need to do is ask yourself how you got to where you are. Also you need to just look around to see if anything weird is happening.

Do not just reality check and then go on with your day.

Ahhh i see.. That seems kinda hard though, most people think they know when they're not dreaming... kinda hard to question your reality when you know that it isn't a dream... plus my dreams are pretty chaotic and blurry it seems like i should know it's a dream and when its not but when I'm in the dream i still don't. you know what i mean? pretty frustrating! >:O

      Welcome to Dreamviews, Duffles22.

Yeah, questioning your reality and being mindful during the day (if not only for a few minutes every couple of hours) is the best thing for inducing lucid dreams. After all, being lucid is just another way of saying "being aware in a dream", which reality checks won't make happen unless you're aware as you do them. They're definitely more of a confirmation than an actual lucidity trigger. It can be hard at first to get into the proper mindset, but think about it - when we're in a dream, we don't question things because they feel real, so just because everything looks real, it doesn't mean you're awake. There's always going to be that voice in the back of your mind saying that you're not dreaming, which is fine, but just stop every once in a while to take in your surroundings and ask yourself, "am I asleep?"
We all live in a kind of continuous dream. When we wake, it is because something,
some event, some pinprick even, disturbs the edges of what we have taken as reality.
