My mind plays tetris when i fall asleep.

Ok, so whenever my mind starts drifting away when I'm going to bed, it seems I always play tetris. Like almost as if I was actually playing the game, I remember where every block is. I actually think that's pretty cool, and my question is; can I use this to my advantage to LD? Sorry if its a stupid question but I'm kinda new to LD'ing.

I'm of the personal opinion that sometimes our most powerful methods for LDing are ones that we make up ourselves or other people's that we've at least tweaked. So sure, if you can make a mental link between tetris preceeding sleep and dreams, then it could be your personal dream cue. Everytime you play tetris during the day, you could do a RC after to reinforce this. Or you could focus on the tetris shapes when going to sleep after a WBTB and let that become hypnogogic images to use for WILD. Or whatever you can think of or something else completely

Do you play a lot of tetris during the day? If I am doing something repetitive before bed, I will keep seeing it in my mind as I am trying to fall asleep.

I know what you mean. I constantly play Pokemon in my dreams, and sometimes it'll be like that the entire time, or sometimes it'll "zoom out" after a bit, and I'll put down the DS/controller and start to walk around. I've also played Super Mario Galaxy and the original Sonic the Hedgehog game. And don't worry. I'm a newbie too!

Not really, I play it if there's any free time in classes, but definitely not a lot.

I think what you are experiencing is known as the Tetris effect:
Tetris effect - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
I get this a lot when Playing Medieval total war, Pokemon, and even texting my girlfriend. So far i have not been able to gain lucidity from this, as I am still half awake. I'm not sure how you could use this, maybe you could tell yourself the next time your playing Tetris you will Reality check, a from of MILD?

They say dreaming is dead, no one does it anymore.
It's not dead it's just that it's been forgotten, removed from our language.
Nobody teaches it so nobody knows it exists.
The dreamer is banished to obscurity.
Well, I'm trying to change all that, and I hope you are too.
      By dreaming, every day.

I 100% know what you mean. I am playing this game called Dark Souls. And When I begin to fall asleep, A fake Dark Souls world gets created into my mind and I am literally playing the game. I hit the enemy and it hits the character and he gets knocked back into an abyss and I died. And in BIG RED LETTERS IT SAYS: YOU DIED! And I respawn at a Bonfire and I go back to the same enemy and whoop its ass then fight a boss and cool orchestrated music plays in my head and....

I get a lot of dreams involving zombies because I sometimes play games like Left 4 Dead a lot before I go to bed. I've learned to link zombies to dreaming now and I use it to trigger lucid dreams. To answer your question, yes you can use tetris to lucid dream. You just have to learn to associate it with dreaming or reality checks.

Sometimes I tend to dream about video games, based on how much I play a certain game. I went through a period of time where I played plenty of GTA. I had dreams about that game. There was another time where I played a lot of Portal 2 and Minecraft, which caused me to have dreams where the two are mixed in some way. I have begun playing Counter Strike, so I will probably end up dreaming up that game in the near future.

      Whoa that is interesting. xD

I think you could try meditation before bed where you simulate tetris and use a mantra like "I'm dreaming." Or you can think about tetris throughout the day and tell yourself that you are dreaming if you see tetris. It may help strengthen the association between tetris and sleeping.

I generally have these sort of dreams when I am sick, althrough my game isn't tetris but a warped version of several games like that... very frustrating.

Try the game Catherine from ATLUS USA, that actually suits this thread right well, with the main character, due to him having issues with commitment getting dragged into a dream world every night where he must climb blocks and solve puzzles, lest he ends up dying from a scary butt monster or killer wife xD

I've had dreams in which I'm a little eight bit character playing pokemon yellow from an isometric perspective, though sometimes it's first person and the visuals are like real life.
I went through a phase of all my dreams having Minecraft landscapes.
