Do musical instruments work properly in lucid dreams?

I am a pianist and would love to transfer my musical skills into the dream world.

I am interested in playing violin. Note: I have no prior knowledge of playing the violin.
In a dream, if I was to take up a violin and begin playing, and think of what I want to be played, will the sound/note come out as I wanted it to sound like?

For example, if I think of a violin solo (where I know all the sounds of the notes played), can I play it exactly as I know it, or will it just be random notes that do not sound like what is played in the real song at all?

      It's all about expectation.
If you expect it to play random notes, random notes will fill the air. If you expect the notes to be accurate, then they will be accurate. Even if you don't have any prior knowledge of playing the violin, expect that when you pick up the instrument, you'll know all you need to know to play it properly.

I play acoustic guitar and it's an aim of mine to try write something while lucid, although when I play in a dream the strings are all wrong, as in theyre not on right, they are vertical and I'm tangled in it all, however I am able to play it strangely enough. I have piano dreams too which are awesome as I love the piano, can't play as good as I would like while awake however, but while lucid I'm able to play, as Marlowe said, I guess if you believe what you will play will be awesome then so be it.. Love LDing and music put together ... Happy dreams

I've had those dreams too, I've been a song writer for years so dreaming of a new song
Is really exciting, but forgetting it the minute you wake is a little disappointing, then again,
I've learned a lot since joining DV so I look forward to my next musical dream and I'm sure
Ill immediately pick up the guitar and play what I dreamt ...

I don't know, but I will definitely try this out in my next Lucid! I want to learn the violin, I've never even touched a violin, so it would be awesome if I could play it in my dream

It depends on the person, dream, and experience with the instrument. There have been a lot of musicians on the site and lucid dreams have really helped them with their musical skills. They have even made songs based off their lucids. Like Marlowe, it is basically all about expectation. In my opinion, the more experience someone has with an instrument, the more accurate it will sound in a dream.

I've not done any real music training, but I'm interested in music and I dabble in it and teach myself. I've experienced playing music in a dream. I remember one specific scene where I was pressing a row of piano keys with my fingers. Like 5 or so keys. I was pressing them all at once repeatedly, yet only one of them came out at any specific time. So a specific arpeggio came out of me pressing keys down in the same way rapidly. Anyways, later I woke up and realized that was a strange thing to happen.
