Help in Waking from Lucid Dream

I was hoping someone could help me here; maybe some have techniques that aid them.

When I wake up from Lucid Dreams, I remain in a hyper-hypnagogic state, where I see images flashing and flickering, like I'm flipping through the Universal TV; and I hear all sorts of voices flashing through my mind.

In this state, I feel like I'm not in touch with reality, like I'm still half within a lucid dream. This makes me feel like I'm losing my mind, and that I have to hold on to reality. I feel like I'm bouncing through a matrix of infinite worlds, yet I'm mostly attached to this waking world. If I can fall back asleep, even for 30 minutes, I'll sleep off that feeling of drunken hypnagogic pseudo-psychosis.

Anyone else experience this, and do you have any advice on how to deal with the feeling of madness when coming out of a lucid dream?

Are you having false awakenings? Whenever you wake up from a lucid dream (or any dream) its a good idea to preform a RC. If it is a FA then you can continue on with your adventures or, as you seem to be experiencing, get rid of any ailments you may have.

I've been lucid dreaming for about a year now, after I read a book that spoke about it. Now, I have them, even though I'm somewhat leary of them, because of how I feel when I wake up. So, I'm not sure what an RC is...

When I wake up like this, yeah, I could shut my eyes and ride out some crazy dreamscapes, even more conscious than before; I believe this is a hyper state of hypnagogia. I don't know if I'd go back into the same dream, but when I close my eyes I see countless things flashing in my mind, and I could get sucked into anyone of those storylines.

RC stands for reality check, It's an action you preform to test whether or not you are dreaming. They include looking at your hands for extra/missing/deformed fingers, plugging your nose and trying to breathe (when in a dream you can always breathe), and looking at a clock, turning away, then looking back (it will most likely be radically different).

It sounds very likely that you are having false awakenings, but there's no way to be sure unless you do reality checks when you wake up. If you don't believe it's a false awakening then I'm not sure what it is, but hopefully it doesn't hinder your daily function.

In the dreams themselves, I will look at my hands sometimes, or it will just hit me "I'm dreaming! I'm lucid!"; usually that happens when the dream gets weird. And then I fly up about 6 feet, nearly everytime. I keep reminding myself, in the dream, that I'm lucid, or I'll slip back into the vivid dream state. I'm definitely lucid in the dream. It's when I wake up from the Lucid Dream that I feel like I'm hyper-hypnagogic and not quite sane.

What I'm trying to say is that after any dream, lucid included, you can have false awakenings in which you dream that you wake up, but it's really just another dream. When this happenes do you continue on with your day and nothing is ever really different, or do you fall asleep usually? If you're falling asleep then it could be a false awakening in which you fall back asleep and just wake up normally.

Ah. It's not a false awakening. I've had false awakenings though; where I wake up and realize I'm just in another layer of a lucid dream. I'm taking about a genuine awakening, where I remain in a hyper state of brain activity, which causes me to feel like I may hallucinate; that's what I'm hoping to find techniques to help with.

Are you able to move when this happens? Although I rarely (if ever) experience sleep paralysis, many people do and they have such weird hallucinations as you describe.

Yeah, I can move. I've had sleep paralysis once, and it's not that... But it's a lot like the hypnapompic state which causes hallucinations in sleep paralysis.
