      Dreams withing dreams

Although I'm quite experienced in lucid dreaming and dream premonitions, one area that I am focusing on is dream within dreams. I believe that a certain energy recoils within them therefore new dreams within dreams are created. I've had as many as 4 or 5 dream within dreams previously. This dream energy is quite unique and it's something I am looking further into.

Has anyone experienced any dreams within dreams?

I have not, but then I don't believe dreams within dreams are possible: in my view, the movie Inception actually fictionised (real word?) dreams to make them more interesting to the public. In my opinion as well as experience, dreams within dreams are just false awakenings - the scenery of the dream might change as might the DC's and genre, but ultimately it's the same dream.

However, I am interested by what you are saying. What's this dream energy of which you are talking about?

Dream energy is what we inhibit in a dream, as we can either have our dream energy rising or lowering as we dream. In dreams within dreams there is so much energy around that takes you to different levels of dreaming. Each new level by which you awaken you realize that you are lucid dreaming and you gather more awareness, and then when it happens again that energy keeps going.

Currently this is one of my main objectives in lucid dreaming, to have more dreams within dreams, see if it is possible to set up that scenario, and to see what discoveries are made.

Yeah I had a dream within a dream! I woke up in my old bedroom! And I tried to do a WILD in my dream, then when I opened my eyes, I looked at my hands. I had 6 fingers, my finger went through my palm and I could breath whilst my hand was clenching my nose! It felt like a lucid dream, but I think I was just dreaming about having one! Anyway it was just really wierd after that!

Having six fingers in a dream, now that would cause me concern in any type of dream. Interesting.

I can vouch for having dreams within dreams. I've often experienced waking up from a dream only to find that I was in another one. It's an interesting experience. I don't buy the whole dream energy thing, but dreams in dreams ARE possible.

I agree with some of the other posts that dreams within dreams aren't real. You can try and 'fall asleep' within a dream and 'wake up' somewhere else, but this is just changing your dream scenery in my opinion. And I don't think that a false awakening means that you were previously in a dream within a dream, I think its just a new dream.

I have had "dreams within dreams" before, but I don't think they are what you say. What really happens is the dream scene changes to something that you would perceive as a second dream. Like if you dreamt that you were in your bathroom, fell asleep, and suddenly started flying through the clouds. That's the scene of you in the bathroom switch to a scene of you flying.

Totally agree with Oreo. A dream within a dream just isn't possible. What is possible is to change your dream scene though. You could "Fall asleep" in a dream and wake up in another dream but you are only really changing your dream scene.

I have had dreams within dreams, by splitting my conciousness and then having one bit go to sleep and the other one have a dream while the first is asleep, but never felt any kind of energy <.<
And if I don't do that, it goes like mancon/oreo said, will just be a dream-location change.

Is that really dreaming within a dream or is it more about existing in two places at once? Then again, I suppose existing in two different dream scenes would be sort of similar to dreaming within a dream.

Yup. Its a tricky thing, you could see it as me playing inside my own dreaming mind, instead? Or like very vivid and concious daydreaming within a dream?

Come to think of it. I may have! I had a dream about minecraft crossed with something like skyrim or assassian's creed. The evil doll thing, Chuckie was also in the dream. The dream shifted (or at least I remember it shifting) into my dad's kitchen where I said to my sister about my minecraft dream. She said she had the same dream as me! The dream then progressed as normal and I woke up for real. Is this the type of thing you mean?

-EDIT- This was last night's dream! How creepy that I ran into this thread

Dream within a dream as you have described it is not possible.

Read the wikipedia page on false awakenings to get a better understanding.

What I experience in my dreams isn't false awakening or a change in scenery.

What happens to me is that I remember dreams within a dream. These dreams I remember can be either real or not.

When they're real I remember a dream I actually had in the past, and I feel a sense of deja vu. The memory can manifest in a number of ways. Sometimes I dream I am waking up and I recall the dream I had while sleeping in the dream.

When they're not real I remember a dream I never had, though it seems like something I remember just as vividly, and I have the thought, "Oh, yeah, I remember that dream!" Still, these are false memories.

In both ways I vividly remember a dream within a dream, even though I'm not actually doing it at the time.

      I probably worded that poorly.

As for dream energy...I have no opinion worth sharing.
