It's possible that it could be distracting you when you do your mantra, but if it is, you need to work on ignoring it if it's that much of a problem. And why would their be a book about fans and lding lool? |

Just wondering if my running of a fan at night could be a contributing factor to my inability to gain control of my dreams. If you believe it could be or is could you tell me why, what book you saw it in, what research you did, personal experience, etc.? Really curious about this and I want to know the truth. |

Spoiler for Secret to LDing:
I run a fan or nature sounds every single night and have been doing so for over ten years. This is mainly because I have tinnitus (ringing ears) . I have found no ill effects with relaxing sounds , or a fan, and my ability to lucid dream. In fact, they might even help. Good luck to you! |
|
I live in hot Texas, and it's often necessary to run the air conditioner day and night. |

I agree with melanieb, white noise is good. I tend to have an easier time becoming lucid if there is whit noise, and certain things I can even hear in my dreams, and It lets me keep control, allowing me to know where my body is in the waking life and know that I am dreaming. it's like being in two places at once |
|
I used to have a fan a while back, but it broke. After that, I haven't used one at all. In the beginning, it was a little difficult to get used to, but it's alright now. |
|
I have a fan/air filter situated at the end of my bed that mechanically rotates, I never sleep without it on. The only thing I found better as ambient sound are those nature sound makers. I like the sound of rain and storms. |

I am just another texan who can not sleep without the ac and a fan.I have had lucid dreams off and on my whole life and slept next to a fan for most of it .I find the white noise soothing once I feel asleep on a plane and had a lucid while flying . But it depends on you and how the noise makes you feel .But growing up poor in texas we had alot of fans so it is something I have heard my whole life so to me it would not hinder my sleep control without it I can barely sleep. |

OK well then from the replies so far I think I can safely eliminate a fan as the source of my problem. |

DreamBliss. The other morning I was on YouTube and had started a guided meditation clip that lasts for an hour (I have probs falling to sleep and its boring, so it relaxes me). The first half hour is someone talking and the second half hour is just sounds. |
