Question First time try, was I on my way to Lucid?

      Hiya!

Last night I read a couple of posts about Lucid Dreaming and instantly felt that it was something I was very interested in and wanted to try.

So today, determined I would want to lucid, I followed a guide I found.
So I did lay down on my back in a comfortable position with my arms on the side of my body and my legs strained out.
This was done 2 hours after I woke up from a good nights sleep.

So I started to focus and think about my breathing, and after let's say 5-10minutes I felt my arms become paralyzed, it almost felt like they were sinking through my bed. Because of the awesome feeling I had a hard time holding myself from laughter but somehow I managed.

I continued following the guide I found and soon began to see shapes and patterns with my eyes. I saw black shapes that just appeared and disappeared, they went into each other, they grew, they shrink. It was like a lava-lamp.

I got interrupted in my concentration by my girlfriend who was brushing her teeth in the bathroom at the same time, so the patterns and shapes disappeared, but after 2-3minutes of constant focusing on my breathing they came back.

The next thing that happened was that I felt like my right eye was completely open, and not shut. This feeling was freaking sick and I didn't know what to think because my eye was shut, I continued to see the shape and patterns.
However, after, let's say approximately 40 seconds, my eyelids opened themselves very slowly. Suddenly I was looking into the ceiling of the room. I felt that my eyes were all filled of tears, I then touched myself and realised I was awake.
When I then did stand up I felt really weird, I started to laugh and didn't know what had happened to me.

So my question is. Was I on my way to lucid? Or did I do completely wrong somewhere?
Did I get too excited during the "eyelid feeling" as I explained and did I cancel my trip there?

I think this is so interesting and I can't wait to pull it off! I'd love to know more.

Please share your thought regarding my first try!

      Thanks
      Best Regards
      Nikko

Those sensations do feel great, don't they? Good job keeping your cool.

Lava lamp - that's a great description. that's exactly how the "fog" starts forming behind your closed eyelids. Later it forms into shapes and objects. If you stick with it, very possibly they will turn into pictures and movies/dreams. Then all you have to do is enter a dream. When I start to see a movie playing out infront of me, I say "I am there", slowly and deliberately. This transports me inside the dream. There are other ways to enter the dream, but I have experience only with this one.

I can't comment on the eye thing, since I have never experienced it myself.

Just a note: Next time you come out of SP (feeling of being paralyzed, sinking, or anything like that), do a reality check to make sure, you are not in a dream. Just know, that this may interrupt your progress into lucid dream, so do at your own risk.

You didn't do anything wrong. Getting too excited is normal. It will get better as you have more experiences like this one - it will still be exciting, but you will learn to control it.

I would recommend you read as many guides as you can find, so you are ready for the next time. Good luck and Happy dreams

Thanks! Wow feels good to know I was on my way at least. That made me want to succeed even more.

May I ask if you possibly know where I did wrong?
And what about the "eyelid feeling" I described? What the f*** was that? It felt super-weird

      Thanks

That sounds awesome. But I'm scared that I will, when trying to enter, instead will wake myself up. But this is part of practice, right?

What does SP stand for? I'm completely new into this. Sleep Paralysis?
Also I have a question! Do Lucid Dreams start where you left, example in my case would I start in my bed in my dream, or could it be any place on earth?

By the time I see the dream, I'm almost always too far gone to wake up from it. Just trust yourself, keep your excitement down (you can celebrate when you wake up, heh).

This "I'm am there " is just my technique, maybe you find your own. I just tried it once, after few unseccessfull attempts, because I didn't understand how to enter the dream, when I have read in guides "and now just enter the dream". I just floated above the dreams a few time and then I woke up, not knowing how to do that last step.

So it may take you a few tries, but that's a learning process, not a failure.

And yes, SP stands for sleep paralysys. I just found this link, feel free to check it out.
But when I said SP, I ment the vibrations and sensation of falling through mattress, flying through space at incredible speed and other crazy stuff. So please disregard me calling all this SP.

      And here are some links
DILD/MILD, daytime awareness, RCs, dream journal and recall, mantras
      DV Wiki
      Beginners guide
Please feel free to PM me or ask anything, should you need help.

Gah, I just wrote a long quote to this message but got an error saying I need to be registered for 7 days to post any links (the one you had posted which I quoted), so I'll have to write my reply all over again

Anyways, thanks a lot for all the information and help.
I'm really looking forward to practice more and to succeed. I have decided to use WILD as my method, even tho it's considered advanced? The reason is, how cool isn't it to be able to have a LD on demand?

I have just read through the Beginners Guide you linked, thanks for that, and I will later read through your guide as well.
It's getting late here in Sweden now and I'm in need of some sleep, but I'm too excited to go to bed! I just wanna read about LD's and experiences all night.
But a motivation is that if I go to bed now and get a good night of sleep, I might practice on my WILD the next day, which makes me want to go to bed immediately.

So at least it feels like I have what it needs to get a LD, I have the will, a very strong one.
So I guess it's all just practice now?

I will update you on my experiences and practices if you'd like
I'm thinking about writing everything I do down, like some sort of diary or blog, and of course start on a dream journal.

What do you think, do I have what it takes? The will and motivation?

      Thanks once again for everything
      Best Regards
      Nikkop

The most important part in LDing is excitement and knowing, that you got what it takes. I know you have it

OK, if you decided to WILD, check out the WILD class in the academy. It's a long read, but you will not be sorry.

And yes, definitelly write as much as you can in your DJ. I write in it more than just dreams. Like bed time, time of dream, time of lucid, what practice I did during day - it's fun to look at it later and see what manifests in your dreams and how long after practice. If you like, DV has a very neat feature for a dream journal. Happy dreams and good luck.

I came here from your introduction post to see how things were going. I approve of the information posted here!

I have had the eyelid experience. I don't always experience it but if I'm particularly aware it sometimes occurs. It's a normal sensation, many people on the forum report the same thing.

      Keep us updated!
