      First lucid dream, holy shit

Had my first proper fully lucid dream last night.

Holy shit, is it supposed to have this profound effect on you as it as on me?

The only thing I've done that can compare is hallucinogenic drugs and that's not that close to be honest. On different levels of experience definitely.

What would people recommend for dealing with your first proper lucid and having more?

Was it an as exhilarating experience for most people as it was for me?

Had the same thing last night, first good one and it was awesome. Yeah it should have a good effect on you unless you were getting eaten or something

It's quite an experience, isn't it? Imagine the possibilities. You can do anything. Congratulations on your lucid, by the way. I'll never forget my first...

Great to hear. A lot of people have sub-par to disappointing first lucid experiences.

My first real lucid was a mind blower as well. It had me totally convinced it was an OBE.

So glad you got your first lucid! Usually when people have they experience a moment of joy and then wake up. It usually doesn't last long. It sounds like yours may have been a bit longer. Yeah, it's a normal feeling. Getting lucid is amazing and I am sure you will start to get some more lucids soon. I recommend that right when you get lucid you stabilize the dream. Then the experience will last longer and the dream might get more vivid. Here is a tutorial on how to do it. Good luck!

I've been having them since I was a little kid and I was scared of them back then, so needless to say my first experience wasn't exactly exhilarating

Man lucky! i cant wait to start LDing. My first one was when i was around 5-6 i had the ability too fly and i was so amazed by it. When i think back it probably lasted like 30 seconds and it was the best 30 seconds of my life lol, i remember waking up and trying to fly again not understanding why it didnt work!
You see things and say, 'Why?", but I dream things and say, 'Why not?

I can see you sleep through your bedroom window. You're killing yourself with lucid dreaming.

For me it was scary because I'm such a wuss. It did excite and make me happy at the same time though.

Up untill now I've been relying on DILD, with some minor successes - some semi lucid dreams here and there but never much. The night it worked I happened to wake up in the middle of the night and was hungry, so ended up eating and staying awake for 30 mins or so, when I went back to sleep I had the lucid dream. So turns out WBTB seems the most effective for me!

The timing of it was weird, when I woke up I was convinced I must have been dreaming for hours, looked at my phone (after checking I wasn't still dreaming of course ) and I'd only been asleep for about 15 mins max! Thanks for the link, can't wait for my next time.

To be honest at the start it was a pretty scary and unpleasant experience, the stage in between being in a dream state and becoming lucid. After that though it was brilliant!

The feeling you get when you're lucid for the first time is really intense. It's like a sudden realisation in life. But sadly I've been too absorbed in doing things in my first lucid, like summoning things, to fully enjoy the lucid. Although I believe if I wasn't constantly trying to summon something, I might be pushed along the currents of the dream and fall back into non-lucid again.

That feeling you get when you realize you are dreaming is great. Mine was really vivid and short but it was amazing. I was so hyped I couldn't sleep for 4 hours after I woke.

I wish it could of lasted longer

Congratulations! Lucid dreams are indeed amazing experiences! It's why we are all here.

That tutorial that Mancon linked you to is great! In that same section of the forum (WIKI) we have a number of tutorials designed to help you achieve them more often. The more you read the more likely it is you will have more lucid dreams.

You might want to consider writing these dreams down in a dream journal. You can use any notebook for the effort but we also have an online dream journal system that you could use to get direct feedback on your dreams. Consider using it for all your dream efforts, like a blog.

You're not the only one... it was indescribably amazing for me (although short lived!)

I think what was great for me was the feeling of noticing how detailed and realistic everything was in the dream world, and observing my parents' behavior and them trying to get me un-lucid. I kept asking them "Am I dreaming?" and my mom, pretty angry, took a gun and shot a plate of spaghetti, which sprayed sauce all over me, and said "That's gonna happen to your BRAIN if you mention dreams again".
