Are DCs' convinced they are living in the real world?
I mean this by, if you levitate in front of several Dream Characters will they be astonished and amazed? Do they act like humans and do every-day human activities?
They can be as real or unreal as your mind wants to make them. In general this may depend on how you feel about strangers or those around you that commonly show up in dreams.
Many of my DCs have very realistic personalities and do very regular activities. Many more of them are "aware" that they're DCs, and they've even told me that I was dreaming before (and luckily, I actually listened). However, I've also seen a close friend of mine pull out a milk jug from nowhere and start blowing in it and cycling her legs forward as if she was riding a bike, causing her to rise into the air and bob around while laughing hysterically in between each blow into the jug. I've also had them say a large variety of nonsensical things to me, or start screaming, running around, and then even start having seizures just because they were upset about some random thing I said to them. DCs are kind of a strange aspect of dreams... they can differ quite a bit from each other. As melanieb said, generally they will react how you want or expect them to, and their awareness will often reflect your own. For example, if you're lucid but you still haven't fully grasped the fact that what you're doing isn't actually happening (which happens a lot, it just means you have a low level of lucidity), you may try to show off your powers to them thinking that their opinions are actually meaningful, and thus they will be amazed. Or they'll play it off like those powers aren't special at all, just something anyone can do.
Well, actually in my latest lucid dream, the reason I became lucid is because one of my DC's told me I was dreaming. Here is the entry...
Spoiler for Dream Journal Entry:
Awareness - 9 / 10
Control 10 / 10
Well at first this dream started out for a good while as non lucid. I remember I was in this huge outdoors / camping store with a bunch of my friends. They had a hige jungle gym type thing set up that you could go climb on but it was about 6 stories tall!! Anyways, we all thought it looked fun and started climbing on it. As we neared the top, one of my friends fell off and as near as I could tell, plumeted to his death. (here comes a lawsuit) Anyways, this caused the dream to shift scenes very rapidly and then I was at this small lake.
So at this lake, it was evening and it was really beautiful outside. The sky was a deep shade of red with some orange mixed in and the lake was a blue / purple blend reflecting the sunset and the clouds. At first I was by myself. Then out of nowhere, some random guy came running up and told me plainly "Hey, did you forget? This is a dream! See ya!" Then he just kind of dissappeared and I was left there alone in amazement. Everything was so vivid and clear I thought surely I couldn't be dreaming. I then tried to remember how I got there. I had absolutely no clue and realized that in fact I WAS dreaming. (Funny thing that a DC is how I became lucid considering I am usually trying to get rid of them. Hehe)
It was one of those moments you never forget. Not only was I lucid, but I was so aware and in control of the situation as well. I instantly began running through my dream checklist in my head.
Step 1 - Stabalize the dream.
Well I did this by simply telling myself that this was MY dream and it wouldn't end or fade until I let it.
From there I went straight to step 3 - Meet this person I have been wanting to for so long now... Not only that, but it was a beautiful setting to meet them as well!
Well, I got about as far as thinking that and just was overwhelmed with excitement and woke up. Grrr....must... accomplish... dream... goals...
As soon as the excitement got to me I woke up and was just laying in bed looking at my dresser. I did a reality check just to be safe, but sure enough I was awake. Oh well, it was still an awesome dream. It's a good place to try and incubate for my next WILD, and finally accomplish my dream goals.
Current lucid dream goals...
-Stabalize the dream each time I become lucid
-See how fast I can run and if it is consistent
-Meet someone special I have been wanting to for a long time now
See ya!
I will say though, 99% of the time it seems that they do believe they are in the real world. To me, unless they are a specific person I want to see DC's are my #1 petpeeve in lucid dreams because they usually come over and start talking to me about random stuff and don't realize how you are totally excited about being lucid, and they keep talking about some random crap when I just want to go on an adventure in my dream.
I remember having a long conversation with a DC, it was weird. I became lucid and floated to a nearby park, it was busy.
I chatted to the guy and asked if he knew he was in my dream, he denied it like I was talking rubbish and went on to talk about his life and how he knew he was real.
Most of my dream characters act normal when I become Lucid, although one time one person did freak out when I shot ice from my hand. The guy then ran up to the top of a building and jumped off, I created a huge cushion so he wouldn't die. I was in a good mood that night.
Yeah your brain is amazingly good at trying to convince you.
I remember talking to a woman and telling her that she was a creation of my mind and she just looked at me like some lunatic. I told her i'll prove it to her, i then asked very detailed questions that i know i did not have an answer to, like where some countries are located. And even her name she couldnt tell me.
