Drink alot of water, that way you'll wake up after each cycle and need to go and pee. Or you can set an alarm that turns itself off once it has rung for a little while, time it with the length of your sleeping cycles. They are usually around 90-100 minutes long, but if you take notes during the night for a few weeks you'll start to see how long they are.

The truth is, everyone wakes up naturally multiple times per night. It's just that we usually fall back asleep within seconds, without ever realizing that we were awake. If you realize that, and tell yourself you really want to be aware of your nighttime awakenings, then you will start to recognize a few within days.

Drinking a lot of water like Matte said, try some mantras, or both combined. While you are laying in bed about to sleep, tell yourself that you WILL wake up in the middle of the night. Good luck with the FILD technique!
