      Question Reality check resistance

Each time I perform a reality check (during wake hours) my brain is always saying "Why are you doing this, you know its real, stop fooling yourself"

Do other people experience this ? Do I pretent to silence my internal voice and continue ? Will it actually carry over in the dream world ?

How do others tackle this ? Any idea's / comments ?

      Thanks a lot !

You aren't used to questioning your reality, the whole point of a reality check is to make it to where your mind is constantly checking for signs of this being real.

Sure, we all know we are awake. But the trick is, to think even just for that moment, that what if we are asleep. I know, this will become easier, after you had a lucid dream, in which you are 100% sure you are awake, then you RC and it turns out you are asleep.

And some cultures believe, that this waking life is also not real, it's just an illusion, or that the sleep is the real reality and our waking life is a dream.

If you think of that and allow yourself to believe just for a moment, that what if they are right? What if this really is a dream? What if you are dreaming and you won't know for sure, untill you RC. Being in a lucid dream is a very happy and exhilarating moment. If you allow yourself to feel this excitement when you question your reality and do RC, it will start manifesting itself in your dreams and it will help you get lucid.

Here is a thread about RCs.
and Collection of techniques for DILD - how to do RC + question your reality

Hope this help. Dont hesitate to post more question. Happy dreams

I like to use a RC check which consists of me trying to make myself float, it's not exactly fool proof but it works well, it's easier to believe then questioning reality, and it gives rise to cool flying dreams if it fails. How often have you considered the possibility for telekinesis or magical power, or fantasized about them. Personally I've done it tonnes of times and I find it easier to believe than that my reality is lie, however if it does work I know it is a dream. So the ofcus isn't on questioning reality but on making a habit of trying to float. It's also more enjoyable then trying to poke your finger through your hand which takes quite a lot of determination to keep up through the whole day.

Same with dutchraptor. I like "magic" reality checks which don't require me to do too much physical stuff. An example is I look at an object and try to change its color. Or I try to create a fireball in my palm. I still do physical ones too, from to time time such as the noseplug.

And the others are right. You're not used to it yet so that's why you get that nagging thought that insists it's reality. It's our automatic brain programming, and the point is to override that so that we will realize we're dreaming while we are dreaming.

      Good luck!

Maybe it's a dream and if I scream, it will burst at the seams.

My favourite one is hand RC...

I did experience what you have been, telling yourself you know you're awake... but the trick is just to ignore that and really (in my example) look at your hands and question if you're awake or not. And always when doing this, think about how you got to your situation, think about if you've woken up, got dressed and gone to work. Think about the journey.

In my dreams, (more DILD's than not) this happens, I randomly think how I got somewhere (as I randomly do it in the day) and then I look at my hands, which are disfigured, and LD away I go!

Just always question reality, like, 1 - 2 times an hour and it WILL carry over to your dreams, as it becomes "hardwired" into your brain to do such checks.

Even if you don't think it is real in your waking life, look past that and when it comes to your dreams, you'll still check reality, and then off of a sudden it hits you like a train, you are in fact dreaming - and that realisation (because everything before that was so real) will give you the best feeling ever.
