How interesting is lucid dream to the public?

So, it comes a time that I am assigned an English assignment to write an essay. One with 4 000 words.
I'm thinking of lucid dreaming as one to write about, but my perception of the general populace is that people think lucid dreaming is silly.
It's most of our world's population was conditioned so that every time they heard "dream" their brain will shut down and they will disregard the topic as silly.

Though, just like gay marriage, I think that the popular opinion with it may have changed.

Does anyone know what people think about lucid dreaming? People who don't give a fig about dream interpretation and lucid dreaming in particular.

I personally think that it's extremely interesting. BUT, I think that people who haven't experienced lucid dreaming first-hand think that it isn't interesting. I've brought up the subject a few times with close friends and family members, and they always seem polite yet detached. And I've yet to meet anyone who would actually be interested in learning how to do it, even after I've told them about all the amazing stuff you can do.

Might be an idea to do some kind of survey, Objective. Straightforward questions such as:

Have you heard of lucid dreaming?
Would you like to lucid dream?
Have you had one/false awakening/sleep paralysis?
What would you do if you could lucid dream every night?
      Do you think it's silly?

      etc.

I'd be interested to see the results.
My LDing record, if you want to hear about it, is about 4 WILDs, 1 DEILD, and the rest DILDs.

I already told a lot of people about lucid dreaming, they were all interested in. I made third of our class try it
The last time I told it to sy was in hospital as I had almond surgery (or w/e is it's name in english), there also told a guy, and he was interested too.
I wrote the guy the basics of it, he seemed like "yeah sure, are you sure you only took painkillers?", but as I told him more and more he became interested.
I think people care about LDing, they just don't know it exists, and first it always seems so unbelievable and impossible for them.

Mostly the same here, when I for example told my exgirlfriend she never doubted it, but was not interested that much, she just asked why one would want to control his dreams. After that though she told me more often about her dreams.

You can try with children Perhaps you will have a very nice surprise, as i did.

Even if they don´t have LDs, they usually have good recall and most can induce them easily just by curiosity
Check your memory, did any suprising event happpen ? does the present make sense ? visualize what you will do when lucid, and how. Reality check as reminder of your intention to lucid dream tonight. Sleep as good as you can; when going to sleep, relax and invite whatever comes with curiosity. Grab your dream journal immediately as you awake and write everything you can recall (if only when you wake up for good). Keep calm, positive and persistent, and don't forget to have fun along the way

It seems that the majority of people think it's nearly impossible to attain because they haven't heard about it before. Their loss.

All the people I have brought it up with are really intrigued by the idea but they never take the time to try on their own.

It's sort of if like someone would talk about mountain climbing with me, I would love to hear about it but probably never try it myself.

A lot of people are interested in it but like most people they stop caring if they don't see results the first week.

Today, we had meeting for the school newspaper, who whom I write, then this guy turns, saying that we should have a article on it for the next edition. Then, all of sudden, many folks, including people, start discussing it. Contrary to popular belief, Lucid Dreaming is not a thing most people don't know. I think somebody even mentioned Dream Views! Although, the majority decided against writing on it.

People know about it, they just don't care. I can't see why though.

A couple of major reasons imo are that first, the way people remember dreams with poor default and occasional recall they can't even begin to comprehend the intensity and possibilities of the dream world. Second, most people are only able to give it a try for so long and doing so much, not very productive. Third, there is still quite a bit of skepticism and perhaps even a little hesitation to get mixed up in something so "whacky and new agey". Some people are willing to have their minds changed even if by themselves in the long run, others aren't. Personally, to be honest I couldn't care less.

I care about spreading the word, as once said, knowledge is power (might I add "application of"). Selling it to people? Meh...

I did a huge paper on it at school and it made people interested in it. The main reason it got alot of people interested was because i made it relate to these people such as saying "think of lucid dreaming like this: have you always wanted to do something that almost felt like real life, like a reality 3D game like killing zombies but you dont really want to die? Have yoiu ever see a really cool movie and thought wow i want to do that but i dont want to get hurt? Well with this dreaming you can do all of that" and also said "Plus who said you cant have fun while your dreaming?"

If you like the way i think/ my content than add me as a friend!
      Thanks

Depends on the public i guess, if people that you are aiming for are open-minded enough and have some imagination then they might like it, it could be worth a try.
I've personally had mixed results when asking people, some liked it and even decided getting into it, or even already were into it, while others were not.

I totally agree, it will depend on the public because some people just don't even care about it. Whenever I mention it to someone they always say "Yea I always control the outcome of dream blah blah blah." I'm thinking in my head that's complete BS lol and it never fails either. You might be aware of the vividness of the dream but still might not be lucid. People don't realize, making yourself wake up and being lucid are two completely different things. If that were the case tons of people would be turning nightmares into lucid dreams with ease!

I've already wrote a paper on it, the only person that seemed interested the most was my professor LOL. Good luck on it though! This should be a fairly easy topic for you.

I told quite a few friends and relatives about it and ... well ... they were really interested and told me that I should keep doing it because it sounds like a good thing to do, but as soon as I told them that they could 'read' something about it or put some 'effort' into it to find out more about lucid dreaming they kind of just shut down and just ignored the topic (almost as if they were allergic to 'reading' and 'effort'). I suposse that this behaviour is quite common. As soon as people hear that something needs work and effort they just shut down because they have got enough stuff to do on their own.
However I still think that lucid dreaming is a good topic to make a presentation about... You don't need to talk about the specifics like effort or so. Just talk about the intriguing things like the results or what you like about it and how you can benefit from it Maybe you'll actually inspire someone who will do more than just listening to you and actually try it out

      Good luck

I wish I was as much into Lucid Dreaming back in HS as I am now. I would have definitely did a paper on it. I wouldn't let them leave the classroom until at least half the class changed their minds about it if they thought of it as nonsense. Then again, I don't really want to spread the word, I like our population and community the way it is.

I only think dream talk is silly if people look at it in a spiritual way and not a science like way. My girlfriend thinks it's spiritual. Makes me want to blow my brains out just hearing or looking at the word "Spiritual." Anyhoot, I would love it if it remained that not many people know of it. One of the main reasons is this very site. It's perfect. The way it was when i first joined, There weren't many active users. There were alot of users, but none were very active. Those that were, All knew eachother. eg; gab, OpheliaBlue, coolb3rt, Alucinor XIII, BrandonBoss, melanieb, rudedudeowns, saltyseedog, paigeyemps, Etc.(Sorry if i missed anyone.) Sure, there were the occasional new users, but that's fine. Then a few users (not naming names) decided that lucid dreaming is too good for the world not to know about. They made advertisements, Told everybody any way they could. and that brings us to where we are now. There are like 5 or 6 new users a day, about 20-30 a week. Yes , i did say the site was perfect, And I love it. It's the best forum out there for lucid dream topics. But then you get the people that like to post things in the wrong spot, complain about the site, and are overall annoying on chat when they find out it's there. The moderators work hard enough. They do a good job keeping the site together as it is. Not to mention there are some of us who like to post on the introduction posts to help the newbies just to keep people wanting to come onto the site. Im sorry for rambling, but i didn't want to post this on the Meta Forum where all the Moderators are. It would just be a bother to them.
