      lucid dreaming pet peeves

here we share anything that annoys us about lucid dreaming.

-the constant reality checks. i do many a day, but it still feels like it is never enough.

-when reality checking the digital clock, it changes one minute when i look back and it throws a wrench in my RC. Although i know i'm not dreaming, it makes me paranoid that i won't be able to recognize if the time changes in an ACTUAL dream and i'll just let it slide if it goes from 5:45 to 3:43 because i'm so used to the numbers not being the same when i RC.

-The way lucid dreaming is viewed by the general public. I heard of one guy who talked about it to a girl and she dumped him because she said that he "was too spiritual" (dumb bish)

-having a detail of your dream on the tip of your mind, but ultimately you can't remember it and never figure it out.

      -waking upon lucidity. nuff said.

-dream control never working as you plan it. You think it's "when I say go" but it never works that way.

enough form me, let me hear yours.

      - When you talk gently to a DC and he/she wants to hit/insult you.
      - Weeks expecting a LD to appear, and when you realize you're dreaming, you lose lucidity. Fantastic. No.
      - Having an excellent 6-dream-per-night recall week, and next week you barely remember 2 dreams.

-Those "half lucid" dreams where I'm fully aware that it's a dream but I still continue along with the original plot and am never able to change anything or make a real decision.

-Completely absurd things that should trigger lucidity but I don't even bother to question (stabbing giant Eagles, my dad helping me bury a body of some guy I shot and stole his car because he threatened me, cars parked inside houses, buying a $100k car that is actually only worth $30k and being angry about it, a cloud of small birds moving in slow motion, using telekinesis without thinking anything of it, etc etc etc)

Good timing to find this, I found a new pet peeve last night and felt like venting about it.

Last night I had a lucid which was very clear and I had a working brain instead of the usual "Lolz a dreams wut do i do?" brain I usually have. A couple of minutes in and my alarm clock woke me up to get up for work.

      -Alarm clocks

I can agree with most of the others on here so far.

      • Freaky hallucinations
      • Break in a lucid dreaming combo/streak
      • Falling back asleep right after turning off the alarm for a WBTB
      • Real life interruptions that jerk you from your awesome dream/lucid dream
      • Forgetting an important goal in a stable lucid

Maybe it's a dream and if I scream, it will burst at the seams.

What feels like a steep initial hill to climb before you get results, incredibly demoralizing.
Not questioning bizarre things when they happen even though if you actually stopped to think they'd completely make you realize.
Thinking about LD all day and pretty much all the time except when you most need to think about it.
When you wake up or go to sleep is when I pretty much zone out of everything including LD so it would be rare that I actually make progress when I'm trying

yea i usually don't talk about it unless people inquire....they see me reading a book about dreaming and get curious and i assess their level of interest and go from there.

it happens. It isn't that discouraging for me because I keep my eye on the prize.

although i am unable to control the dream sometimes, i find that being lucid is satisfying in and of itself. You have a different perspective in the dream once you become lucid.

it helps if you don't awake to something that it loud and buzzing. i used to have an ihome that increased the volume slowly and i always had a chill song to wake up to. it was like waking up on a cloud. a great transition from dreaming to waking life instead of a blatant interruption.

      -Dry spells

      -Insomnia

-Writing a note about a dream that makes sense at 3am, then not understanding it in the morning (or not being able to read the handwriting)

-Being woken up by a crying baby the moment vibrations start when you're trying to WILD

-Not having time to write in your dream journal in the morning

      -Nearly missing becoming lucid

      • Waking up and not recalling any dreams, but feeling them 'on the tip of my mind' (thanks for that analogy Sospiro). I used to be able to grab that 'tip' and pull the rest of the dream out, but have somehow forgotten how
      • Realizing that my most common dream signs are unrealistic - like 'dogs', as I have a dog, so I can't RC every time I see my dog, she is always with me - and 'cars' I live near a busy road, so again it is unrealistic to RC whenever I go outside
      • My subconscious taking on other people's negatives - like, I'll read that other people's dream characters don't let them have sex with them, and all of a sudden mine will take that attitude
      • Trying really hard...doing RC heaps of times in a day - no results. Then I feel like... 'I don't care, this is too much to remember', and I have a lucid that night!
      • Not being able to go back to sleep in the morning (as that is when I lucid the most...DEILD)

I do this ALL THE TIME but usually it's because of rushing around when I get up. I use my phone for that between sleep but I was in the habit of using detailed full sentences no matter how long it took, for this very reason... Then for a couple entries I just put down words and phrases that would have probably made perfect sense if I had written the whole thing out as soon as I woke up, but then something comes up like I shower too long and don't have time before going to work. When I finally get around to it I have no idea what I was talking about.

I feel your pain on this one too... Used to be I'd struggle and finally get it. Or I'd get irritated then sometime during the day I'd see something, like a certain color car or a person I know, and remember a whole segment that had escaped me before. Now it's pretty hit or miss with a tendency toward miss if it doesn't immediately come to me when I wake up.

Agreed, this is really frustrating. It happens to me a lot when I'm going through periods of poor recall.

      A few more:

      • Finally becoming lucid after a long dry spell and not remembering to stabilize
      • Not remembering a single dream, for no apparent reason
      • Never being able to fall asleep when I try to nap

I could have sworn I had replied to this before, sorry. I know what you mean and I have intentionally "gone with it" before, like in a fairly recent one where I was at my old school. It felt nostalgic and I didn't change a thing that was going on except that I pulled a book on Lucidity out of my backpack and gave it to one of the DCs and was explaining to him how all this was a dream.

But sometimes I just want to go mess stuff up, you know? Fly around, crash cars, and get in gunfights! lol.

+ voice recorder app malfunction resulting in inaudible dream journal entries for entire wakings! Arg!
+ missing the juicy late morning dream cycles due to excess wakefulness, or being "volunteered" to do the family morning routine when it's not my turn .
+ falling back asleep while doing recall for a waking
+ and #1's gotta be: waking up too soon from a LD!

Loosing my dream sight but staying lucid...not terribly fun.

My tendency to smack around DCs. I am a nice guy usually but a bully in many dreams.

Taking advantage of very young girls. Im not a pervert in RL...(well maybe inside I suppose)

Becoming lucid in a car and trying to find a safe place to park, wasting the LD

      * Becoming lucid, but the 'push' to lucidity wakes me up.
      * Becoming lucid, and being frustrated that everything is blurry until I remember to put my glasses back on (ok, this one's actually kind of funny).
      * Being stuck in the void... AGAIN.
      * DCs directly telling me I'm dreaming, and I either ignore them or am too engrossed in what I'm doing to care.

My daughter had a lucid dream last night and when she realised she was lucid and told the DC next to her, the DC said 'awesome... lets go flying'

I've heard that too, but it's not my experience. Usually when I do it, they either seem to accept it, completely ignore me, act interested, or just look at me like I'm crazy. Once I used that in conjunction with a mind control technique to calm a DC down after she had seen me do some crazy stuff in a fight.

      - portals not working when you need them
      - having a long lucid dream and forgetting the first half of it while IN the dream
      - meeting someone in your dream you think could REALLY be them rather than a DC and spending time telling them that they are dreaming and doing crazy sh*t so that they remember, only for them to not remember their dream the next day
      - being side-tracked by sex and forgetting your dream goal
      - slow motion and grogginess in the the dream

-That random lucid where flying doesn't work even though you have done it a thousand times before
-Dream characters being uncooperative when you are trying to have sex
-Dream characters guilt tripping you into doing something boring during a lucid
-Forgetting to reality check when a dream sign pops up
-Forgetting entire an entire lucid, except for the fact you knew you were lucid
They say dreaming is dead, no one does it anymore.
It's not dead it's just that it's been forgotten, removed from our language.
Nobody teaches it so nobody knows it exists.
The dreamer is banished to obscurity.
Well, I'm trying to change all that, and I hope you are too.
      By dreaming, every day.
