During dream, your daytime memory is shut down. You need to practice to be able to remember things from your daylife in your dream.
Don't be shy. Close your doors and windows, stand in the middle of your room and act out what you would like to do in your dream. Speak out loud, or even yell and sing. You wanna use a sword, then practice swings. You wanna karate-chop somebody, do that. Keep telling yourself what you doing out loud. Imagine yourself getting lucid and doing what you practicing. If you want to practice stabilization, touch your hands, feel your arms, legs, bend down and feel the ground, say out loud "clarity now", look at your legs, look at your arms, touch the nearby wall... Then go on an shoot some fireballs.
And yes, mantras can do wonders. Especially if you are WILDing. Sometimes I notice I'm already in a LD and I can hear myself saying my mantra. That reminds me of what i wanted to do. For example, I wanted to just take it easy, not to rush out the first window to go flying. My mantra was "slow down, look around".
