Thread: Controlling DC's and where should I go from here?

So I just had an awesome lucid dream today (decided to put in in spoiler) and it raised some questions.

Spoiler for Tl;Dr of dream:

Was in school, tried to make out with multiple individuals, all of them resisted to a large extent. I had the control to create new hallways and stuff to help make the new people appear, but not to have it be both sides agreeing to the act. When I became lucid, I decided to rub my hands together and not stop in order to ensure that I don't fade out of lucidity. It worked. I believe I became aware due to the fact that I had to pee, but not enough to wake me up. This was my first lucid dream to last over 2 seconds, so that's awesome.

Is rubbing my hands continuously good, or is there usually some point at which I could stop and still be fine?
Why is it that I could keep "summoning" these people and keep creating hallways and stuff but not control the people themselves?
Is it normal for DC's to resist like this?
Did more likely fail because of expectations, or because of inexperience?
If it was expectations, how? My philosophy is that within an LD anything is possible. That's why I could create walls.

And now some background info. I've not really done much to achieve the last three LD's that I've had. I'm guessing it was because I've been thinking about lucid dreaming a lot. What should I do from here? Where should I go? I haven't been using any technique, not even reality checks or a dream journal. How can I ensure my future success? I'm motivated, that's for sure but I've been motivated before and though about lucid reaming a lot before with no success so now what?

Also, any tips on controlling Dream Characters?

Edit: Gotten some really good suggestions. Next time I should lie to them (something they would believe) or use a DC controlling remote control.
