      Dream about lucid dream?

So the question is... Is it possible to simply DREAM that you had a lucid dream? I've been doing this for about a week now. I haven't had a lucid as of yet. But at some point during a dream tonight, something strange happened and it prompted me to try a reality check, at which point I said "I'm dreaming". I teleported a time or two after that, and changed night to day (the night was scaring me, it had been a nightmare before that point.) I remember not having much control over the the things happening around me.. Thing is, I don't really remember anything after that. For that matter even those parts are very blurry. And I don't remember the dream feeling any different than a normal dream (no rush, no sudden increase in clarity), and the memories that I do have from it don't feel any different than a normal dream either.

So... CAN you dream that you had a lucid dream? Or is maybe my recalling of the dream just a bit jacked?

      Perplexed newbie over here. ^.^

Edit: the more I think about it.. The house that I teleported to originally was a dream sign of mine, and I can't remember exactly what reality check I did or exactly what result I got from it. Seems like it would be hard to do a check using my hands on an almost pitch black front porch, doesn't it? .. Which all just makes me wonder even more if it wasn't actually just a dream about being lucid.

Hello, and welcome to Dream Views! In answer to your question...yes, I do believe that it is possible to DREAM about Lucid Dreaming. However, and some people may disagree with me, I personally count that as a Lucid Dream myself. I have only dreamed ABOUT LDing once and that was iffy as to whether I was dreaming about it or not.

Whether you believe that you LD'd or not, this means at least that your subconscious is getting used to you trying to Lucid Dream! So your making progress...keep it up! Also, I am glad to see that you have lots of motivation for to Lucid Dream. Keep sticking with it and you'll be rewarded greatly. See you around!

EDIT: If you want, you can go to the DV Academy Board and then go into the current courses. You can start a workbook in either the DILD course or the Intro Class and you'll get one on one help. It helped me out a ton.

I had this last night. I was with another person and we became lucid together but I had almost no dream control and I did not understand why, since I thought I was lucid. Also I did not have the same feeling I have when I have a lucid dream it rather felt like a normal dream. And I did not find it strange that there was another person with me who also was lucid, I did not even look at him/her

Dreaming is so flexible, that it's hard to draw clear boundaries around lucidity. I think of it as a two-step process, consisting first of "awareness" (realizing that you are dreaming) and secondly of "agency" (understanding and acting upon the recognition that you can control the dream content, narrative, and your own reactions to it.)

Sometimes my dreams demonstrate distinct dream-awareness but lack the recognition of agency that would turn it into a more fully lucid experience. Sometimes it's the opposite: I demonstrate very advanced forms of control over the dream events (such as replaying scenes if I didn't like how they went the first time) without so much as an inkling of conscious awareness that I am dreaming.

Even this is an oversimplification, though. Within dreaming, there are innumerable possible permutations and variants of both awareness and agency! In the end, you're the only one who can make the classification of whether what you experienced was a lucid dream or a dream about being lucid, because you're the only one who experienced it. If you can't decide for sure, there's no harm in leaving it undecided.

Either way it is a fantastic start, especially if you've only been working on this for a week!

Thank you for the replies everyone, it's much appreciated. After journaling about it, reading your replies, and just doing some general thinking throughout the night at work I have definitely come to the conclusion that I think it was just a dream about being lucid. I would *like* to think that it was a true lucid dream, but something in the back of my mind is telling me to settle down. That said, I have to agree with you that it's a really good sign. Especially to have appeared so early in the game. I've been at this for only 5 days now, and it's encouraging to see my subconscious already starting to pick up the habit and state of mind.

So I'm gong to call it a win, even if it was just a dream. It's encouraging all the same, and it makes me very eager to take another stab at it.
