      Was this a lucid dream?

Last night I had a dream that I was in my closet. I was looking at my lunch box and there were a lot of apples in it. That struck me as weird, so I decided to do a reality check. I looked down to do the figure push, but didn't even do it when I realized that my hand was huge and puffy. I said "Oh my gosh. I am dreaming." I then walked out of the room that was in, but everything was kind of fuzzy so I blinked a lot and shook my head to clear it. I saw a window up ahead and jumped out of it abad started flying. The dream ends.

The reason that I am asking is: For the past couple weeks I haven't really been doing a dream journal or any techniques or anything. So, my dream recall is very lacking. I can't remember any sensations from that or any other dreams that I have had. I was thinking that maybe it was a dream where I realized that I was dreaming, but didn't actually realize that I was dreaming. Any thoughts?

In my (poor) experience -( 3 lucids now) you should know the difference between lucid dreaming and having a dream about lucid dreaming! I've had a couple of dreams where I've sort of casually said 'Oh, aye I'm dreaming' and I've known on waking that they are definitely non lucid. Just think hard about your dream, did it feel different to a regular dream, because my three lucids were unmistakably of a unique and hard to define quality. They also made me very happy and kind of excited for the rest of the following day. Hope that helps - I'm sure one of the experts can help you some more!

I'd say that's a LD. My first LD seemed like that too.

It certainly sounds like a lucid dream, but if you are unsure, then that seems like maybe your awareness was low, or that you were just "dreaming about being lucid" which is different. An LD will produce a very direct experience of being present-in-the-world, so to speak, and for the most part--especially if you have high awareness--the quality of the dream will be more rich and detailed.

I think it may have been a dream about a LD.

It was a LD. You became lucid but just lost control of the dream. The next time you become lucid, try your best to grab onto some object nearby and focus on it. Try to use all of your senses to bring in your outside environment. The key to staying in the dream and maintaining awareness is to anchor yourself, be it looking at something, feeling an object, or even just doing something like walking in a straight line. It is much easier to remember dreams that you are lucid for. That is probably why you remember all the details right when you became lucid and forgot the rest. You may have just lost your awareness and went back to normal dreaming.

The sailor does not control the sea, nor does the lucid dreamer control the dream. Like a sailor, lucid dreamers manipulate or direct themselves in the larger expanse of dreaming; however, they do not control it. Lucid dreaming appears to be a co-created experience. ~Robert Waggoner

That sounds like what happened. I tried to make the dream clearer, and then when I was exploring, I think I forgot that I was dreaming.
