      LDing as therapy?!

Hey guys, I just thought about how Lucid Dreaming could be used as psychological therapy.
Does anybody have any experience, solving their problems (fear, depression, etc.) in their LDs?

I'm surprised you haven't heard that one of the reasons why lucid dreaming is popular is because it helps people overcome constant nightmares. Anyways I wouldn't call this therapy but it did help me goto sleep on time since before I knew of lucid dreaming I hated going to sleep.

I did a paper on this, since I'm in school for counselling.

I did as much research possible... the paper was pretty good. My teacher didn't really understand, though, so my mark wasn't what I was hoping.

Pretty much anything can be therapeutic if it helps the person.

Gr8God! I have heard and read alot about people fighting nightmares with lucidity. But what I meant were "real" or maybe I should call them severe mental sicknesses. I do know that nightmares can be extremely frightening too, alrhough I am lucky to only have them from time to time...

Jayme. That sounds really interesting ! I think so too I think our mind is capable of more than we can imagine ...

Yes, lucid dreaming can indeed be therapeutic. I don't know so much about illnesses such as schizophrenia or bipolar disorder, but those who have been through all level of trauma have worked used lucid dreaming as a means to help.

I've been curious about this too. I'm alone all the time (I don't count my parents/brother, they are negative company, they are worse than no company at all) and it would be awesome if I had a dream character with whom I was in love and who is also in love with me. But I don't know how this would be like. I do know, however, that a lot of people like myself feel a wonderful buzz after a good dream. Lucid or non-lucid. So I think it can definitely boost your mood, but I have never been severely depressed or mentally ill and I have no idea on whether it would completely solve the problem. But if your problem is fairly simple, like a phobia, social anxiety, or some other anxiety, obviously you could do the thing in a safe environment to get over it. It seems silly to think that LDing can cure a serious mental illness though..
