DO NOT READ THIS THREAD (Lucid Dreaming Mind Hack)

      Hi All,

No, this isn't click-bait (I promise!) - the title was chosen as a proof of principle.

I'd like to share with you a personal lucid dreaming technique I've used for many years, based on the power of reverse psychology/negative suggestion. It's one of the few that didn't make it into my last book, but I've always enjoyed using it and thought you guys may appreciate it.

It's aimed at inducing DILDs through utilising the reduced inhibitions and self-restraint that occurs while dreaming.

It's surprisingly effective and creates some very peculiar dream experiences.

Thank you to everyone who has, so far, supported and subscribed to my channel. It's really refreshing to know that there are others out there who appreciate lucid dreaming explored from a rational perspective.

Anything you can do to help share, like and support the channel is hugely appreciated.

Here's the technique and video. I apologise for the croaky voice, I had to struggle through a bad case of the flu to make this one...

Spent 10 minutes listening to your simple LD meditation during a wbtb a few nights ago and I usually fail wilds.

After listening to it, I managed to get a successful wild and chain 4 successful WBTBs after it. I got a record total of 11 LDs that night. Keep up the great videos, they helped me!

      Nice!

I've tried ones similar before (such as hiding a randomly-colored ball in a box), but this one seems better because the contents are a lot more tempting/interesting. (it's an expensive actual product, which someone bought specifically to be usable/desirable to you, and for which you have no idea of the contents)

It's also a nice idea of it being a long-term element in dreams, kind of like persistent dcs and items/weapons.

I'll probably try this at some point; thanks for sharing.

      Hi Daniel, fascinating technique!
The only bit I don't get is, what stops you accidentally opening the real box in WL because you think you are dreaming, or, what is to say your inhibition about opening the box remains while dreaming?
Is it just that in a dream your mind opens the box for you, like convincing you that it broke or fell open, and that's the trigger for lucidity?
Worth trying, but knowing my luck I would just not make that link!

@ Slash112 & Venryx - Thanks for the support, I really appreciate it!

@Him - That's fantastic news. I'd love to hear about your dreaming experiences from that night. Perhaps if you can find the time, maybe you could post your experience in the YouTube comments, it would certainly help inspire other dreamers.

@Goldenspark - Well, the technique is designed to be used as part of a wider lucid dreaming strategy, a supplementary extra to boost your DILD chances. So the assumption is that you'll also be performing reality tests during your waking hours, so it's a good idea to include a reality test whenever you handle the box - so a mistaken opening while being awake should never occur. As for the dream world, I've found all manner of peculiar scenarios where the box has been open, or stranger still, appeared in a completely different form. So yes, it's a case of using it as a trigger for lucidity. There are, of course, cases where the box has been open within a dream, and I've missed the cue - generally because I allowed myself to mistakenly believe that I was awake, and became angry that I'd opened it in the wrong situation. However, once you start practicing using strong emotions to cue reality tests, that issue fades away.

Most of the techniques I share can be used stand-alone, but really work best when combined with a more diverse set of lucid dreaming techniques and practices. I prefer to give people as many tools as possible, so they can build an effective set of practices that suit their own needs and dispositions.

Thanks Daniel, that makes sense. Think I'll give this one a go. I've not had much success with DILD techniques, but I'm trying hard to do so now. I'm definitely recognising things as being strange in my dreams, so I feel I'm making process.

Im exited to try this and wonder how long it will take till i dream of opening it...i suppose it depends on the intensity of my curiosity.Iv realised that objects in a box would make me curious but not very curious.Iv figured out as i live with my fiancee i might ask her to write 3 sentences on 3 didferent pieces on paper and put them in a box.
The idea that she knows i will never read them will drive me crazy...maybe she will write something shes too scared to tell me? Or maybe she wont even put anything in the box? I think id want to keep it with me at all times so i might thing of buying a small box or locket as i never dream of bieng by my bed or in my house.
Thanks for this idea i wish i had your brains xD

Do I have to keep that box closed for my entire lifetime?
I don't think I would be able to have that control over my curiosity, wouldn't it be enough to just have it closed until I start getting lucid dreams from it and then open the actual physical box in waking life afterwards?

Impossible. You'd be doomed to a lucid-less existence for the rest of your life!

      Thanks guys!

@GoldenSpark - Good luck with it, I've found this to be pretty effective over the years. It's all down to your personal levels of curiosity. Personally, I can't stand an unsolved mystery, so it's perfect for my temperament.

@Clidu - That's a great idea, it's definitely wise to make it your own and to use whatever is most likely to spark your enthusiasm and curiosity! Let me know how your variation works out!

@Laurelindo - haha!, I'd definitely recommend not giving into temptation, see it as a test of character and a general exercise in developing willpower.

@Venryx - Oh, good god, now that really would be a nightmare!

Great technique! Makes perfect sense. The power of the mind is impressive. I lucid dream about once a week. After a few years I noticed that some nights I WBTB (basically a bathroom break) and at that time I am just "sure" I will have a lucid dream. Those are the nights I do have one. I have tried forcing my mind into that mind set but without a lot of luck....just once a week. Usually on the weekends when I am relaxed. But I did have two LDs back to back 2 nights in a row this weekend so maybe it is possible to achieve that intentional mind set.

The idea you're putting forth is to create an expectation that we can never accomplish in waking life in order to motivate our mind to solve the problem while in the dream: open the box. Is my understanding correct?

If it is, what is the difference between the closed box and desiring to fly. I'll never fly in this life, as far as I know, so would holding onto a longing for flying create the same psychological crisis that would instigate dream resolution? If I understood you correctly, it's not the closed box per se but the unrequited desire that brings about action by the subconscious in the dream.

      Thanks for sharing the technique.
